This has been one of my all time favorite movies since I saw it when I was a kid. The original short story is good also. The acting by the two main characters is suprisingly warm. The love shown by "Will" to "Zamese" is great... the end where the narrator says that "the name Will Davitch" was added to the line of the alien boy as a parent is very moving.

As intelligent as he is, this is astonishingly narrow-minded. Most people studying a humanities discipline do not end up being researchers in said discipline, but go into the world with a critical mindset and expanded horizons. On the other hand, people studying natural sciences usually stay in academia, which goes into his argument that they are more 'scrutinized' by their peers. Also, someone whose primary work is in linguistics would not be considered really a 'scientist' in the strict sense of the word. Grammar, logic, language are even today more explored in the humanities (philology, philosophy, etc.) rather than the 'hard' sciences. Finally, Mr. Chomsky has spent the last decades interested in politics, and political science is really more of a 'humanities' discipline rather than a 'natural science'. He is talking nonsense and he knows it!
