Paraguay have been envolved with military trainings on Europe, let's just reminder. Uruguay was on a Civil War, (Colorados supported by Brazil and Blancos supported by Paraguay). After that, Paraguay invited Argentina to attack Brazil. Argentina declined, then, Paraguay started the war by attacking Mato Grosso do Sul (Not going to say about Marquês de Olinda). Also, im not going to say about the kids, womens, old people on the war by Paraguay side.

@@byonex Why don't you tell the WHOLE story? You left quite a lot out of the story, conveniently for the Brazilian narrative. Paraguay never needed contact to the ocean. To this day, Paraguay has the largest Navy of any landlocked country on Earth. Asuncion was literally founded because of its location and nicknamed the Mother of Cities, because it's right in the heart of South America and boats can go anywhere through the river systems. I'm glad that you brought up that Argentina and Brazil dominated the River Plate Basin, because that gets at the heart of the problem. Argentina and Brazil were HEGEMONS. They were trying to DOMINATE the entire region POLITICALLY, including Uruguay and Paraguay. I don't know why you bring up that Paraguay was involved in military trainings with European countries when both Brazil and Argentina were, too, let's just remember. And with regards to your claim that the Blancos were supported by Paraguay, that's because the Blancos ASKED for help to Paraguay, given that Brazil was getting involved in the conflict. Afterall, given that Argentina and Brazil were on their HEGEMONIC endeavors, it was on Paraguay's best interest to oppose said endeavors so as to protect their sovereignty. Again, Brazil was already involved in this conflict before Paraguay even got involved after Uruguay (Blancos) asked for help (as a matter of fact, Brazil started the Uruguayan War; it all started with Brazil invading Uruguay, let's remember). Paraguay did come for help by telling Brazil that any attack on Uruguay would be perceived as an attacked on Paraguay. Brazil got the message and continued attacking Uruguay, effectively declaring war to Paraguay. That's when Paraguay started attacking Brazil, as countries at war do (duh!). When Paraguay tried to come to Uruguay’s defense by crossing through Argentinian land (hypothetical since the crossing did not happen), Argentina and Brazil joined forces and invaded Paraguay. Paraguay never asked Argentina to attack Brazil, they simply asked Argentina for permission to cross their land to go help Uruguay. And LET'S talk about the kids, women, and old people on the Paraguayan side that Brazil KILLED even though they were not part of the military. Kids were forced to leave with no weapons and fight (famous battle of Acosta Ñu), clinging to the legs of Brazilian soldiers amidst the raging battle, pleading for mercy, only to be decapitated without hesitation. And now they want to show Brazil as the heroes and they keep trying to rewrite the history with shows like "Nos tiempos do emperador", which portray an absolute bonkers account of events. Even Argentina has admitted their mistakes, but Brazil keeps denying everything and changing the narrative. Shameful.
