A monopod doesn’t work for me. I use a bipod for me. 😂😂😂

Hi Digger I enjoy your videos. It's not an easy hobby we have. I also use my car as a hide. I was at Guadalentin and Sierra Espuna yesterday. Lots of flies around at Guadalentin. No decent images yesterday but some good birds. Roller, Bee-eaters, Great spotted Cuckoo. 3 Black bellied Sandgrouse, 2 Marsh Harriers and a Short-toed Eagles at Guadalentin. 4 Golden Eagles and 1 Short-toed Eagle and lots of Buttflies and the Fox at the cafe at Sierra Espuna. I live in Torrevieja out birding quite a lot my year list is currently 189. Geoff

Such a solid review. I wanted the P1000 for so long but when the P950 came out that changed.. Much more sensible size for what I want it for and with an amazing zoom. Newer better cameras has come out but none offer this zoom which I'd thought would be a given at least on some models. Even Nikon hasn't offered an upgrade in like 4 years.

It was so enjoyable watching how much you really loved what you were doing. I also started off just using GoPro, but I missed so many far away shots so I recently just bought the P950. That’s how I stumbled on your video. I’m still learning the photography side of things, and learning the settings on the camera. But I absolutely enjoy the hobby and from the video I can tell you do as well. Thank you for the video.

I can never be tired of beautiful bee eaters. I am wondering if the drought in Spain is the reason we have had Golden Orioles on the Gower Peninsular, Hoopoes in Eastbourne and Dungerness and Bee Eaters in Norfolk in the last week. We will probably miss the Bee Eaters this year as we wont be out until October. I have seen those wheatears over on Sector D before.

Very interesting, getting my P950 tomorrow and so I'll have to work through all your vids now. Pretty much starting from scratch, so your experiences will be very useful. Our friends who relocated to that part of Spain may receive a visit from us sooner than expected! 🙂

Okay, I have the P1000 and I consider it a lemon and every day I make lemonade with it. I don't know about the P950, but with the P1000 you can configure Raw and this gives me the freedom to have a raw image with more color and sharpness, which avoids artificial artifacts during editing, giving surprising results that not even a professional recognized that P1000 was the author of that photo. I use a maximum of ISO 400, I've already tested the 90D + Sigma 600 C and Canon 600mm, as well as the R8, R50, RP and none of them gave me the detail that the P1000 gives me when it comes to distance! So whoever criticizes them doesn't know their potential and of course they have their limitations, for example at 5pm I no longer use them... but they surprise me every day in both distant and macro photos and I take a very focused and clear photo . . birds in flight. That must be why the P1000 doesn't have a manual but rather a book, haha...hugs 👍🇧🇷!

Lovely video. I suspect the pink bird is either a collared dove that a Spaniard has painted like they do to pigeons or it could be a Red Collared Dove that has escaped from an aviary as they are native to South East Asia and we are hoping to see some in Kuching later this year.

Do all these not look to be out of focus ? Or is that the best this camera can do ?

It is always lovely scenery up there in Espuna. I have seen a Crested Tit in the pine trees on the ridge at the back of Camposol D past the agricultural reservoir above D4. My photo of the Crested Tit is a bit blurred as it was just out of focal range of my camera. We once went to an RSPB reserve looking for Dartford Warblers. Spent a few hours walking around and could hear birds but did not see a single bird until we got back to the car park and there was a Robin on a fence post near our car. I have had more luck with tree creepers! 1 at Bushy Park, another at Hampton Court Home Park and another at Desborough Island.

Ok, What was the awesome peach, black and white winged bird with the long curved beak and tuft starting at the 7:20 mark? Have never seen before. 😮

Nice video - I have the P1000 on loan and am struggling to get to grips. You do better than I have! BTW, the "linnets" are corn buntings and the redstarts are black redstarts. I love the Spanish landscapes and bird habitats. Awesome. Crazy tip about banging the camera - though I had a problem with the Canon 5D where the wheel wouldn't change the settings and it seemed that banging the lens made the difference, but v risky.

i have the P950 for almost 2 years now and didnt regret anything. if there is anything i dont like its the small sensor and combined with that bad photo quality. if you just look at the ISO button a bit weird it gets worse. but i made it habit to adjust my workflow a little bit. download photos. AI de-noising software to clean up the image. then lightroom for some contrast and corrections. thats all to get great photos from this cam. i bought a macro adapter lens and some LED light panels. which makes it a fantastic toy to play at home with a tripod on rainy days.

Nice use of zooming crops and a good mixture of stills and video and music, although, I wonder if acoustic guitar might go better with birds. I've owned a P900 but never had the problem you described, however, from time to time, some mirrorless cameras seem to lock up for no obvious reason. Fortunately, the cure almost always seems to be to turn them off, take the battery out and then put it back in and the camera fires up like nothing was ever wrong. However, I'm happy to report my P900 never did that. You have some very good stills with excellent use of what looks to be late afternoon light but their impact is somewhat diluted by some soft video images. I wouldn't mind spending a little more time lingering over your sharp images.

I enjoyed your video and found the music and intro eye and ear catching. I have owned a P900 as well as the Canon SX50,60 and 70hs cameras. They have an amazing reach but, as you've discovered, really aren't happy above ISO 200. Early on I photographed eagles tussling in a tree. The SX60 had the reach but couldn't really freeze the action. My P900 did a great job photographing nest building osprey, its range keeping me at a respectful distance and a great place to start learning action photos. CZcamsr Stafford Fuhs has also produced some great videos showing what you can do with bridge cameras like the P950. If you don't mind some constructive criticism, try shortening your videos by a couple minutes, add some "Ken Burns" zooming crops and, perhaps, give us some technical data, apx. focal length and, maybe, distance from subject. Your use of music was excellent and the Ken Burns crops, when appropriate, will give more display time for each photo and help you craft the mood you want your viewer to feel. I hope you will find some value in these suggestions and I look forward to your future videos.

I have had my P950 for a few years and it is my go to camera for most everything I don’t do people but, birding, landscape and moon and lately sun shots with a solar lense filter

Glad you got your lens hood sorted. Andy lost his lens cap on Staines Moor. We are waiting for the replacement to arrive. Plenty of Stonechats and Chiffchaffs on Staines Moor including one very lost Siberian chiffchaff. Lots of lovely bird pics on your video. Hope to see some of those birds in Murcia Region in September.

Thanks for the honest review Digger. Like you I struggle with the weight of my Canon dslr and its 100-400 zoom lens which comes in at 2.5kg. Taking the plunge I have now ordered the P950. Looking forward to having the extra reach and less weight hopefully it will be a good trade off.

I have nikon P1000, and i am just fan of the camera, P950 is quite capable camera and it can give extraordinary pictures like a P1000. Your photos are very good and just using tripod one can make better pictures. I want to buy latest Canon R7 + others. Plus every time i end up asking if it worth replacing P1000. Great work!

Awesome shots you got with the P950, but is it still ok to use maximum 4k30 video? I enjoyed your photos a lot, but the video quality and its autofocus hunting all the time is something super annoying. I often use 1080p120, 4k30 fine or 4k60 (crop) with my EOS R7. And if i could afford, i would also buy something capable of doing 4k120 and 1080p240, better 1080p480 I would really recommend you to step up the game a bit, there are decent and much better options than a P950 out there for like 1000-2000$ body and 600-2000$ the lens. My R7 + RF 800 F11 costed me "just" 2000€ in total and its a charme to have lightweight, great stabiliser and 1280mm+ in this combo. Sony A6700 + 200-600G, alternatively a FF body or so. Panasonic G9 II + 100-400 Leica Nikon camera + 180-600 lens Canon R10, R7 or R8 and either one of those: RF 100-400, RF 800 F11 or even 600 F11, or the best pick (in my opinion), the newly released 200-800 F9 but thats 2000$ lens alone and so a bit pricy. Alternatively, have you ever thought about an "older" point and shoot with 20x optical or more? I had one of the newest Sony WX cameras and its zoom capability was AMAZING, even moon was somewhat detailed. Now im at a W830 and "just" 8x optical is fine as well (25-200mm, complementing the 240-960mm i have on the mirrorless camera with 1,6x crop factor)

Beautiful shots of beautiful birds. I find that Nikon p950 is not made for photography birds in flight. Video them in flight is better once you focus locked. Enjoy a lot your videos and your insights. Thank you and keep the good work. Happy new year

Nice video, I appreciated the shots and your modesty. I recently bought the Nikon P950 and really like it, but I'm still very much learning what it can do. On that note, may I make a couple of suggestions for you to dismiss or use if you want? :) 1, That camera has a "bird mode" where I believe it takes continuous photos as long as you hold the shutter down. That might be just the ticket for the birds in flight challenge you mentioned. 2, You mentioned you like to walk a lot. You also mentioned shooting video and shaking. Have you looked at a monopod that doubles as a walking stick? It might be ideal for the walks and the steadying. I hope this isn't seen as me being rude.
