olivia is the main vocalist which is why she’s the only one singing the whole time! they do have one song called misfit biscuit (one of my faves) where it’s just will singing but for the most part he just plays the piano n does background vocals. you should check out more of their music!! they’re amazing

kinda late to this, but the bridge lyrics where he says "i swore necks were made for bruising, i swore lips were made for lies" "i swore hands were made for fighting, i swore eyes were made to cry" is because (stating this from one of his interviews with Rolling Stone) he grew up poor, with an abusive dad and a mother who drank, so he always thought that love would be a bad thing, infact he says "i swore hands were made for fighting" which means love for him was something violent and cruel. "i swore lips were made for lies" is probably referred to family line where he says "i'm so good at telling lies that came from my mother's side, told a million to survive" because he always had to lie to... live. (family line talks especially about his abusive father and how it gave him some sort of trauma) --

Alley rose is my favorite song on the new album. I don't relate to it at all. But you can feel the emotion through the lyrics and it feels like you relate to it. And I love how it makes you stand up and jump around and scream

For stranger my interpretation of it was how we can go from knowing someone so well, so intensely and in a blink of an eye it can vanish. At one point you can be inseparable, know everything about one another but they can become a stranger to you, someone you see walking down the street or the isle of a grocery store; someone you retain all of these memories and feelings towards yet you don’t talk to them anymore; and this often abrupt end brings a sort of grieving and overwhelming loss; this is her moving forward. Finally waking up to a brighter beginning, the colors rushed back to her face and she couldn’t be more pleased. She needed this experience to be the girl she is even if it wasn’t pretty, it is what it is.

Stranger I think is about the boy from sour as she also references enough for you, and that he was an important part of her life and she loved him and still he is is important to her but she is over the breakup and all this feeling and now he is is just the guy she doesn’t really know anymore and she has finally moved on past her feelings from the relationship and breakup but she is grateful what it contributed to her life. And in so American she calls herself boring because she is so in love she only talks about him, my interpretations least.

7:10 i got to that same concludion as a queer woman based on the things i‘ve observed in queer woman spaces. i don‘t know how queer men handle experimentation and closet cases but i imagine it‘s not all that different. and i don‘t think it‘s an insensitive conclusion to arrive at, i‘m struggling to come up with another way to read that line that makes sense and isn‘t spun out of thin air. we‘re not trying to put a label on conan here, we‘re just observing what he‘s saying and what he‘s saying is probably that this person was in the closet and nervous about being in a queer relationship. either way, this is my favourite song at the moment, i am in love with the production, i love the changes in tempo, the little firework effect before the first chorus brings me so much joy.
