Macaloney's has been using peat from Washington State but they are now switching over to a local Canadian peat. I'm not sure exactly how far along they are in that process. They are also able to peat the malt on the premises. Again, not sure exactly when that began but I believe it was fairly recently.

I won’t buy any whisky or whiskey that is below 92 proof and I prefer 50abv. As a standard proof point. Not a peated guy yet but trying to get into it. I do enjoy the Lagavulin 16 but it’s a lightly peated scotch. Ardbeg 10 is way out for me so far. I am looking for peated scotch that doesn’t taste like a charcoal briquette yet doesn’t break the bank if you know what I mean.

Terrific review! I’d love to see some Lagavulin reviewed! The 16 is a huge favourite and many of the 12s and the Offerman expressions!!

Craigllachie is actually listed at 52.99 in Ohio and well worth it. I have seen other CZcamsrs say it is a cheaper,and more accessible alternative to Springbank 10.

another knowlegeable and very interesting review. Im similar to you with speyside profile preferences but Craigellachie is really exeptional. Fun fact: i had dram of this 13yo earlier this evening and now i found your video 🤠. Level of juice in my bottle is more less the same. Thank you for the advertisement. Glad to get to know the core range. I am a big fan of the Torfa. Wondering how that would compare to the Portsoy. The Torfa i find to be wonderfully earthy with vanilla sweetness. The SandEnd just hit the shelf here but at $90 US its a little unrealistic for me. I expected that the NAS flavors are really needing that higher ABV. So thank you for confirming.

Nice review, Leon, I tried it in a French show & loved it, but for some reason, I picked the Sherry Cask Reserve bottle instead, novelty in our market wise too, probably because the choice of Fino casks instead of Oloroso made it quite different...I have now 4 different Filey Bay bottles & when i will be better (currently facing a painful bronchitis or something close, which doesn't seem to end, so I had to postpone several videos including the Filey Bay one), I'll review them (one of them is a bit special, not available in our market, and I have high expectations about it, it just arrived but have to wait to open it). I agree with you on what this distillery brings, one of the best of our time among new ones too, I agree, and one still under the radar for many probably because of Bimber & Cotswolds fame...All their whiskies though, are more expensive in France (especially the finishes) than in UK & I guess in Germany too...Still worth the price though imho, as I loved everything I tried from them so far...Cheers !

This is good news to know,I stay in Peterhead not far from Sandend and love Glenglassaugh whisky,the Pedro Heminez being my favorite,the Port finish was very good to,I went to the distillery and bought a bottle of hand filled Marsala cask,not tasted yet keeping it for a special occasion,if you have tried it please let me know your opinion please 👍

I just picked up the Portsoy after it won on a blind tasting with Aqvavitae. Really great whisky

While a Glenglassaugh fan, I have not tried any of the new core expressions. Truth be told, I am afraid to try these as I really like Evolution and Torfa. I have a number of backups for each of the two, so I probabIy will not try them any time soon. I have never tried Revival, So I might try the 12 YO. Great distillery and very much under appreciated. I had the Distiller's Reserve about 5 years ago, preferred the Hibiki anytime.

However, my list is: Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye from Canada, Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky from Japan, Powers John's Lane Single Malt from Ireland, and Starward Nova Single Malt from Australia. Teerenpeli from Finland should absolutely be on your to-do list. Excellent whisky, some of their bottlings are vintages and cask strenght. Check them out!

I knew this was recommended for a reason. Elephant dung smoked. Wow. I couldn't even fathom a thing. Then again i hadn't heard of indian whiskey either. Cheers I'm in the states and recommend "boulder spirits" top notch distiller. Colorado has a good bit of good ones. what ever you can get your hands on.

Actually those mentioned 5 Wishkies are made out of neutral Spirits ..Which actually doesn't comes under the defenition of Wishkey as per the laws..so these cant sell it outside india branding it as Wishky..but noe things are getting changing they trying to reduce the volume of neutral spirit and over a period of time these brand comes as completely grain based Wishkies

My feelings as well. I have a Hakushu 12 that I bought 2 yrs ago for $85 USD and I am nursing it as I don't want to shell out $190 for it now. It is delicious. I will keep my eye out for the Distillers Reserve.

Like food, I enjoy whiskies from all over the world. I will never regulate myself to products of only one country or region. With that said, I still heavily gravitate toward the products of Scotland, however I am more selective with my picks because of rising costs, and I've also learned to appreciate the younger whiskies from other countries as well. I am really enjoying the variety of world whiskies available and have been really impressed with offerings from Taiwan, New Zealand, France, India, Italy, Japan, Ireland, Belgium, and even England. Many of these countries have distilleries that are creating malts that are punching well higher than their weight class or should I say competing with much larger distilleries than their footprint within the industry. Scotch is so vast with variety and variation that I don't actually believe it is struggling. I just think that with so much variation, that offers many opportunities for not only a lot of hits, but also a lot of misses as well. Higher prices will force Scotch drinkers to look for younger less expensive alternates, and I think that is why there is a rise in blended malts and younger world whiskies.

Now this makes me wonder what the new-style(flavor forward) scotch will do in a similar lineup. Will that perform differently/better? Give it a go and do another review. Secondly we've seen with aqvavitae's blind tastings 2 years in a row that the non-scotch pulled the attention (yoichi nas/ indri trini). Does make you wonder if it comes up because people are tuned in into scotch and thus the different whisky gets the attention/interest.

Interesting topic & Blind tasting never lies ! World whisky is becoming more & more potent imho in front of established Scottish ones (of course this is a generality, with exceptions), and it is good to see some French ones pop up into line ups like this one...Lots of great questions asked there, Leon, and it'll be tough to answer here & now shortly, but let's just say that for instance price increase is certainly an issue for me, at the moment of choosing which whisky to buy, value too, and that natural presentation in the widest sense possible (so not the one always mentioned on youtube, but one which would also include the least possible alteration of the distillate in the final product, casks policy wise) should also be taken into account, but not exclusively, especially for beginners into whisky, etc...I do enjoy the fact you're not sticking to Scotch whiskies, despite it's "my first love", but general or specific whisky topics are interesting too, not only tasting notes, to answer one of your questions. Great video, Leon, good job, and also rather good French prononciation too ! 👍Also kudos to introduce to English viewers other French distilleries than the first ones which I guess now most of people heard of (Celtic Whisky Distillerie, Warenghem), not many people cover that on CZcams...Great opportunity also for you to visit the distilleries & get your hands on some single casks I haven't even tried myself for some...Just a few things regarding some of the facts you mention or questioned...Warenghem did start distilling whisky in 1983, not 1993 and released its first whisky (a blended whisky made of wheat & barley) in 1987, while their first single-malt was released in 1998. TOS Distillery's whiskies (Artesia) are not chill filtered & non coloured and I told them it was a pity there were not mentioning it...Also, beyond the "Fût Noir/Char #3" (not an distillery exclusive, but commissioned by La MDW), if you wanna get closer in my opinion to the distillery house style, I really recommend you to try the one called "Pur Malt Whisky" (a single malt in fact, despite its name) which happens to be a distillery exclusive, unfortunately. Also, one of their novelties of this year is a powerful high strength version made with White Port ("Fût de Porto blanc"), btw and I'm tasting it (first impressions) in English in my latest video. I will also have 2 members of the distillery in a live show on my channel next monday (it is in French but English questions are welcomed & we'll try to answer to them as much as we can... Now D.H.G. wise (Domaine des Hautes Glaces), indeed, I think what they do is "super craft", but often very challenging (I agree with your impressions on the house style), but they're currently changing a bit, so we'll see in a few years...Other French distilleries are worth having a look/taste, problem is that, for some, as you mentioned it, they're going to be hard to find not only abroad, but often outside their own region...What is sure for me is that our whisky scene has never been so exciting as nowadays, with so many new distilleries registered & 83 coming on with a finished product, even if you'll struggle (me too) to get half of them at your door & at a fair price...Cheers & keep on bringing us good reports & overviews (& tbh, my German being rusted, so I'm also interested to hear about German distilleries, beyond the 2 or 3 I already know-btw one of them is mentioned in my latest video about WLP...).
