On the 72 hour fast before bed or 48 hours or 42 or 36 hours is it ak to take magnesium bisglycinate 250mg daily before bed on non eat days? I'm in Canada, I've been told that the weight gain during perimenopause is normal however I find it excessive mid section and my belly button is now an outtie from an innie. I did low fat muffins, low fat everything, never knew keto till a little while ago. What I am told to eat less and exercise more was exact wrong. I'm finding more success with keto, walking and fasting. I found it was my dentist that actually pressed for me to have me be referred to have test, I live with sleep apnea. even though with 6 yo 7 hours sleep I find deep sleep is less than. I really enjoyed your story and will set in the 36 to 42 hour alternate day fasting and do best to do either 36 or 24 for Fridays starting Thursday evening. Unfortunately in Canada we are unable to request a peri to menopause family doctor to get feeling back to normal with normal weight again.

I have to disagree about one statement. Fasting absolutely can cause gout. I did a 35 day fast with no history of gout or high uric acid and I developed gout during my fast. I'm 34. My uric acid levels consistently go up when I fast for more than a week. I now take allopurinol when I do extended fasting.

Terri, Another great podcast. I definitely need more of this. So, why do I fast so well for the entire day, then sabotage myself at 9pm at night (even though it is always good clean food). I’m thinking I have an addiction to this behavior, bc I have been doing this for years, so all of your mindset podcasts help me deal with this. You’re right, distraction doesn’t help. I want to use your tools to try to deal with this head on. Also, I have this feeling that late at night, before bed, a bit tired, and relaxed, my more primitive lower brain is making these decisions to eat, because I am struggling with getting past this real hunger. Also, what doesn’t help is I feel so good and content after I eat. Need to change this behavior. Need more tips from Terri. Thank you!

On the bright side, I use gardening and sewing to keep myself busy so I do not wander into the kitchen. Eating mindlessly is a HARD habit to break but it can be done! Ive lost 60 plus pounds. I am pretty advanced both in fasting and working out. I've recently run my PB half marathon in moderately fasted state (18 hours fast). I usually run zone 2 even after longer (up to 42 hours) fasts. I try to do resistance training always after a long fast just before fast breaking, in order to make use of the increased growth hormone. The only thing that I don't like doing in fasted state is HIIT. My biggest question remains however, how to get enough protein while doing therapeutic fasting. Currently, I must always choose between losing weight or building muscle, very hard / close to impossible to do both at the same time.

Love this as always! After almost 2 years of trying different schedules and eating styles. I think I have found what I like to Call the flex plan. I have two 24s and one 48 scheduled a week but I am learning to listen to my body and play around on certain weeks. I have had zero luck on finding any help with having an iud. I also had it replaced in January and my body is still adjusting so basically, I just listen to my body. So I'm also carnivorish. My blood sugars have been beautiful. My hormones are starting to few more balanced. My autoimmune stuff is lessened. The scale still isn't budging but I'm healing and that honestly is more important. So my flex plan allows me to not be so ridged and take care of myself. Doesn't mean I go crazy. If I'm hungry and need three meals in one day, I make sure is good food. If my cycle makes me not so hungry but I don't feel good fasting, I fat fast. It's not an easy process to get here. But it's finally working. And at 47 and still 30 lbs over weight, I just happy to be feeling better.

Never use your spouse as an accountability buddy. You're setting yourself up for marital strife. Constructive criticism is a fantastic way to scuttle your relationship. Pick an accountability buddy who is the same sex so you don't end up cheating on your spouse. That's another cheating gateway. You aren't trying to do it, it happens because the other person is supporting you and thus there is an emotional connection. I am an atty...I have seen the issues....

One of my many questions is something that the Doc has spoken to a little bit in another YT vid. It is about knowing when you are fasting too much. From what I can tell, if there are stories about people fasting for over one hundred days, then there really is no way to over fast unless you simply do not have the body fat. I like fasting for many different things. There really is a long list of very significant life quality factors that fasting can increase and possibly introduce. So I am a big fan of the challenges. It is not something you can do right out of the gates without challenges. I am getting to the point where I am within ten pounds of my lowest possible healthy weight if I still want to be active and toned. This is totally foreign territory for me basically since I was a toddler in the seventies. I have had SAD, sugary, starchy diet disease since puberty basically. I started down this path a little over a year ago simply by deciding to take extra virgin olive oil, one or two oz's a day. one before breakfast and one before lunch. It added good fat and curbed the cravings big time. Coupled with serious walking in the warm Minnesota months. I didn't get into keto/fasting until a couple months ago. Since then however, I noticed that the weight I was losing was different somehow. I noticed how the loose skin became much more noticeable. I guess the fasting is a major factor, but I think getting serious about sugar and processed carb cutting is also huge. Started at 220, now at 160. 5'11". I have health problems. I am learning that the medical industrial complex may be against me when it comes to "total" cholesterol and getting off statins. I am coming to learn that the fatty liver test may allow a fatty liver to be considered "normal". Even though my HDL crawled up to 50, after being below 40, it is still too low. Major changes that I have seen is the weight, losing 2.5 sizes around waist, trygs came way down and HDL went up. I am weaning myself off, actually I have weaned myself off of statins and I have informed the doc. LDL's went up, but I am not worried. From what I hear from objective voices online, it is not that big of a deal especially in comparison to the benefits of the improved factors.
