    The original carpenters committed the cardinal sin of cutting floor trusses to shorter lengths than they are engineered for. They do NOT have that sort of flexibility like dimensional lumber or I joists have. And I know this having never installed one!

    Super curious what this cost. I have a pretty gnarly situation in a huge luxury home where the trusses are sagging under a huge kitchen island.

      Are you asking materials cost? I am pricing one similar out right now and just the steel flats alone are 7k usd. I am only doing 8 trusses total, but I am using hot rolled A36 steel bar 5/16"x 2" x45ft and a bit of 3/8"x3"x60ft to strengthen an area of web trusses. Only doing 1 truss with the 3/8 that is under a heavy wall. Bar length is 20ft each so will weld them together and weld a 12" scab plate on the joints. Using gorilla urethane glue. screwed every 1 ft and 2 screws across welded scab plates. I might do my own youtube video on it. Steel, 2 people to help, insulation and drywall I expect to spend 15,000 USD. I had to pull down ceiling drywall and insulation to get to the web trusses. I should be done in 3 or 4 weeks.

    Bad idea to modify engineered trusses without engineers' guidance. Which I'm assuming is what they did. The manufacturer would never do that at the end. Like you said, the triangle is the best shape for structure.

    The corrugated panels are not a structural element in a container. They are just to hold the cargo in. So you can cut out without losing structural strength of frame. But yes, the frame will flex but it is not structurally an issue. But if you place another on top of something you cut, then yes, you need supports.

    • @runkleconsulting6388
      @runkleconsulting6388 Před 5 dny

      Acturally, the corrugated panels are very much a structural element in the containers. They allow the sides to act as deep beams, which allows the containers to distribute the weight to the corners. If you take off those panels, the container loses all of its strenght in vertical loads, and resistance to lateral loads.

    • @runkleconsulting6388
      @runkleconsulting6388 Před rokem

      I don't remember, but the screws weren't important - it was the glue. The big issue is to resist horizontal shear, and screws aren't so good for that. The main purpose of the screws was to clamp the metal to the trusses to allow a better glue set.
