2022 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel - 1,000 Mile MPG Run
Howdy everyone, thanks again for all the comments on the previous video, I did not know it would be received so well!
As by "popular demand," here is part 1 of my trip into Canada. I started in Conroe, TX which is about an hr north of Houston, TX and drove all the way up into Breckenridge area of Colorado (exact town is Dillon but I just say Breckenridge cause everyone knows where that is).
This gives me the opportunity to provide multiple MPG numbers with a wide variety of climates, road situations and other contributing factors to see how accurate the trip computer MPG calculator is (btw its not) to the hand calculations of miles / gallons.
Anywho, I hope the video assists in your RAM Ecodiesel needs. I will be filming for sure more of the journey up into Canada, and on the way back to Colorado and finally to Houston
And of course thanks for watching!

Howdy everyone. I purchased this truck in May of 2022 and have owned for just over a year now. What I'll be covering in this video is my fuel economy numbers, maintenance items, and any issues I've had with the truck (nothing mechanical but caused by something else...) Feel free to share anything down below especially if you own an Ecodiesel, owned one or looking to purchase one, I Look forward...

Howdy everyone this video I'm covering what my real world MPG numbers are for my 2020 F-150 with the 2.7L Ecoboost. I drive about 1000 miles a week for my job and I thought I would just share my experience so far. Sticker says 26MPG on the highway but lets be real, nobody in their right mind is going to achieve that (especially in Texas cause we all know the speed limit is just a suggestion.) I...

      They are these - a.co/d/aaJnKM9. Just copy and paste the link into your browser and it should take you to them directly! BTW, these have been nothing but flawless. They bolt right up in the factory brackets (have to do some minor trimming, but nothing on the body just to I think 1 or 2 of the washers). Way better than spending $400 on ONE factory mopar running board (yep, $800 bucks for 2 of them). Like I said before, no issues what so ever, and totally worth the bargin of $179!

    Sadly to say i purchased a 2018 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel purchased new february 19.2019 .. The truck was built January 24,2018 therefpre sat on the lot for over a year, I was not away of the class action suit on the 2014-2017 ecodiesel .i loved the truck ,Ive owned the dodge hemi every two or three years trade in since 1996 almost 28 years a ram customer .I loved driving the truck but only after 4 months my engine blow up at 5.970 miles.therefore was replaced,My new engine on occasion was cuting out. I filed my first case March 5. 2021 on the truck cuting out for no reason almost causing me to be in an accident.they replaced the fuel pump and other items ,but the truck kept cuting out without warning .I filed at least 4 other cases against Dodge Ram .Nothing was ever correcter .GUESS WHAT .On June 8, 2022 Ram came out with a recall on the ECO DIESEL dodge ram 1500 on the HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP . that ive been complaining about for one year. I have filed at least 7 complaints and active cases.Recalol states :FUEL STARVATION MAY RESULT IN AN UNEXPECTED LOSS OF MOTOR POWER WHICH COULS CAUSE A VECHICLE TO CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING..My 8 cases are about the fuel pump .I got everything documented.Last April 2023 Team i dodge of Myrtle Beach kept my truck and gave me a loaner ,because I was having multiple close calls of being in an accident do to the truck cuting out without notice.After 6 monthe on October 31,2023 i got my truck back ,They did a ton of work and replaced the high pressure fuel pump for the 5 th time i think , I was happy finally geting me truck back,BUT on or around December 1.2023 My RAM DIESEL CUT OUT OM ME AGAIN .therefore i filed another case . On April 3.2024 Team one dodge of Myrtle Besch SC got the new items to correct the FUEL PUMP recall.GUESS what again on May 13.2024 i almost involved in another accident do to the truck cuting out with out any prior warming ,exactly what the recall stated ....therefore i filed another case number 89980817.....I can not get anyone to help me out , they stated its to last for the Lemon law . but a few case people stated something shoulf of been down several years ago , they could not believe dodge never did anything.; Last week a decision was made if i trasde the truck in i would get several free oil changes and the case was closed .i can not speak to the zone manages and im still waiting for Steve MARRIOT to call from a month ago, T^he case peaple are a dime a dozon and probably get paid mininum waes because did keep quiting and im assigned another one ,,My zone manager here in Myrtle beach was FIRED or Let go several months ago, Im knot sure if that person was replaced ....The best part is last month i wanted to trade the truck in and looked at a new dodge ram 1500 hemi ,,, GUESS WHAT the business manager a TEAM ONE DODGE OF MYRTLE BEACH SC route 501HE COULD NOT TAKE MY TRUCK IN ON TRADE DUE TO THE RECALL ISSUES AND THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP PROBLEMS IVE BEEN HAVING, Therefor that DAMM truck off the lot..Thats sad ,i tellthat to the case people and they can not believe that TEAM ONE POLICY IS NOT TO TAKE ANY TRADE IN ON A RECALL NOTICE<ESPECIALLY THE DIESEL ENGINE<<< On MAY 2,2024 the area manager antd the CRM turnes down my case agakin ...THESE IDIOT SHOULD BE FIRED....I bet if it was their family members driving my truck it would be a different answer ... Im driving a ticking time bomb,just waiting for an accident to happen .I will not let any of my family drive my truck because they probably would not know what to do when the truck cuts out with out and prior notice,,,,,I need help , im 77 years old and thought this would be my last truck, but i made a big error in buting the ecodiesel ,,,,also i just found out that Dodge does not make the eco diesel in 2022, and they never solved the problem with the recall solution ,, at least on my repair ,because it still keeps cuting out on occasion with out prior warning..I only hope TIM KUNISKIS CEO of Dodge Ram looks into this,,, The case management team based in florida division needs some house cleaning,,,

      Wow, what an experience you've had with that truck, what a shame that it could not be resolved. And just so you know, my truck does have the recall BUT there is no remedy. I spoke with a Stellantis representative and he said flat out they put the same pump in, NOT a redesigned one.... Shows how ontop of it they are. Your truck is a flat out case of lemon law, after 3 times if the problem is not fixed, they should buy back the truck (not a lawyer by the way, just what I have observed from asking and talking to stellantis employees). I think you deserve a brand new 2025 Tugsten with the SSTT HO. 🤣 Best of luck

      - Sounds like one is an ecodiesel and the other one is the pentastar V6 (i think its a 3.6L gas). First, depends on what your specific needs are. If you are driving long extended trips (i would say 60+ miles a day) AND towing regularly, get the diesel, but get a couple yrs later (2nd or 3rd gen). BUT since you said its had 6 previous owners, if the service record is immaculate, up to you. If you do end up getting that one, get the extended warranty for sure. ( I recommend Assurance, I have heard good things from them. Mopar does offer a 3rd party warranty I do not know any information on that.) *NOTE: IF you do get the eco, the first Gens have a nitorious problem for lower engine failure due to the incorrect engine oil weight (if someone would like to fact check, much appreciated but that was the understanding from talking to RAM techs). My buddy used to work at a dodge store said they had a recall for the 1st gen ecos that all it was to put a sticker on the engine oil fill cap saying "5W-40" 🙃* check extended warranty options - Also depends on what trim levels they are as well, which goes in accordance of your specific needs. For example, if your gonna drive a lot with, I would recommend spending the extra money on say a Laramie or a higher optioned Big Horn / Lonestar (but of course whatever is within the realms of your monthly payment). If you need a beater, maybe a tradesman is the best fit, but all depends on your needs. And as for one last piece of advice, do some comparisons. Shop around, check prices for comparable trucks all around your area. If the price is right and the vehicle is in another location (out of state or whatever it may be), do the cost analysis to see if you can save a couple extra $$ with that option. Hope this helps, Happy shopping!

    My boss bought a left over 16 2.7 Lariat and I bought a brand new 2017 STX 2.7, both 4WD, but I live in rural Southern West Virginia and he lives in Charleston West Virginia, I got regularly 20.4 mpg and he got 18.5, we are both old guys and drive like grandpa’s cause we are, in Charleston he has a lot more red lights and traffic driving, I on the other hand have a lot more hills and rural driving. If my wife gets in it for a day or two she kills the mileage and I’m down to around 18, she like the way it pulls evidently.

    I have a 22 Ecodiesel and its not my daily. I only have 3500 miles on it. Where do you get 700-900 miles for a tank??? Lmao your's must be broken. I can't get 400 miles even keeping my foot out of it. Known crankshaft and main bearing issues keep me from driving it more. Cold air intakes are a waste.....

    • @johnruhroh4158
      @johnruhroh4158 Před 3 měsíci

      I do agree Cold Air Intakes are a waste. Thought it would be beneficial but only thing was turbo noise is now "noticeable." MPGs have remained consistent. And yes the 700-900 figure is legit, I'll be posting an MPG video soon. Just by doing some simple math, truck I have is equipped with the 33 gallon tank. When it reaches E, I usually fill up around 30 gallons or so (just to help save the CP4 pump). 30 gallons * 27 MPG = 810 Miles to a tank. And Not to worry about your 22' model year, the 1st gens had know lower end failure. The 3rd gens were about 80% redesigned (according to stelantis,) Drive that thing and enjoy it! Best of luck

    I just test drove a ‘23 Ecodiesel Big Horn, msrp of $62k, my out the door price quote was $55,262 in Michigan. 3-1-24. I’m still debating on the v8 just w a tow pkg as a Big Horn.

    • @johnruhroh4158
      @johnruhroh4158 Před 4 měsíci

      Well all depends if your gonna tow heavily with it and drive on the highway for extended periods of time, or if your power hungry and plan to drive around the city, the HEMI may be the better choice, if my suggestion means anything. But in these times, that OTD price is not great but not terrible. Back in 22', my OTD price was $51 with an MSRP of $56k and some change, but that was at the peak of the market, of course when interest rates were lower (locked in a 2.59% thru a local credit union). Best of luck!

Best bet would be to get with a local dealer and find out. Because you'll be spending $5k+ alone if the system were to fail and you had to pay out of pocket which is not ideal Best of luck my friend.

No issues so far (Fingers crossed) In terms of parts availability, of course the 3.0 Duramax will be the winner since those are still in production. However, I have not had any major issues with my EcoDiesel (but still waiting on the CP4 Pump recall/repair :/). Just been completing regular maintenance on the truck so far (Oil changes, fuel filter changes, tire rotations, etc.) Now keep in mind they are ending production of the HEMIs for the next gen of ram but i'm sure with the hundreds of thousands of RAM HEMI trucks sold, parts should not be a concern. Definitely invest in an extended warranty. I have an Ecodiesel and it sure saved me thousands having the Mopar extended bumper to bumper warranty. I noticed the anti freeze level very low. These Ecodiesel have a tendency to generate a small leak because of the EPA regulations causing more heat inside the engine. Change the filters and at an oil change add DEF fluid at 5,000 miles. I know the maintenance allows you to change the oil at 10k. Best to keep it maintained and avoid any problems later.

Usually change it around 8k or so def I can only get about 6k miles out of a tank, but the DPF filter regens frequently on mine. I remember when I bought the truck I got endless amounts of calls/emails/flyers about the mopar extended warranty, is that what you have by chance? Buttt the did say if it does fail and I have it replaced by the store with a factory CP4 pump, they will reimburse (gosh I hope so 😵‍💫) I have heard of some kits that bypass the fuel from the pump that if a catastrophic failure does occur, it will not kill your whole system. Hopefully their is something like that for these. He has it on a 15 F250 powerstroke. And funny (and typical) for a subaru to blow through head gaskets. How many miles, what yr/model? @@johnruhroh4158 I have always run Hot Shots EDT in every tank, raises cetane 4 points and adds a lot of lubricity to help protect the hpfp. 170,000 miles now, had to replace a glow plug, but that's it so far.

    Thanx for the nice video John ! I am intending to purchase a new 2023 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. Only a few left at a dealer in the Twin Cities, so last chance to purchase an EcoDiesel. Waiting for the Fuel Pump recall parts to come in, other wise this truck only has 11 miles on it ! 😁 Your URL's for the parts you purchased on Amazon, do not work when I try to copy/paste them in my Chromebook browser !! The Running Board URL works, but not all the others 🤥

      Awesome to hear, welcome to the EcoDiesel Fam 😎 (and hopefully you have your truck by now!) And I am trying to get those links fixed, I have to do a 2 step verification but it declined me this time around. I’ll try again and see, hopefully you got a awesome deal on yours since jan 2023 was the last month for the ecodiesels.

    I used to get 23-25 on my 2.7 '16 model (4x4 3.55 pretty sure ) now I get 17-18, nothing happened no new noise or suspension/ tire changes. I've changed plugs several times, with no difference. Nothing wrong with the motor that I can tell and no codes or lights. No idea but I ran 24.6 for my first 60k I had my truck. Wasn't driving like a grandma either, 70+ on the highway.

      Did you switch to a different oil? I’ve heard to use the motor craft oil because its specifically designed to withstand the temps of the turbos

      How many miles do you have on your truck? MPG drop off in a direct injected engine is usually a very good sign that the intake valves have carbon build up. I saw a significant drop between 75k and 125K.

    Is your truck 2 Wheel Dr. or four-wheel-drive? I think the main factor in these tests will be how fast you drive. Thank you!

    You can check your rear end ratio on the door jam slicker. It’s the axle code.
