3D Printed Prosthetic Finger
Traumatic injury to the fingers and hands is a common reason for emergency room visits. According to research published in the Annals of Emergency Medicine, an estimated 45,000 patients for partial hand amputation are seen annually. This is a sad truth, considering that finger loss not only comes with a functional impairment but also many psychological impacts associated with the injury, as cited in the Journal of Hand Surgery in 2008. (doi.org/10.1177%2F1753193407087026)
Currently, there are several solutions to accommodate partial finger loss due to traumatic injury. One of the most functionally advantageous designs is the body-powered prosthetic finger. This works by utilizing what’s left of the amputation to drive a mechanism that restores the ordinary motion of the finger. It responds quickly to the user and feels natural.
Unfortunately, only a few prosthetics companies manufacture body-driven prosthetic fingers and are often made of expensive materials offered at inflated prices. A single finger can cost thousands of dollars, and are not an option for amputees without health insurance and/or other complications. A low-cost alternative is desperately needed.
The goal of this project is to design a low-cost body-powered finger prosthetic that restores finger motion and function to the user. The design should be light, durable, low-friction, and integrate off-the-shelf parts with 3D-printed components.

How I made this Self-Balancing Robot

This is the final video of a series of independent projects I'm going to be doing over the course of the summer. Here, I showcase the self-balancing robot and talk about how it works. The premise is to use an inertial measurement unit to read the angle with respect to the vertical the robot makes, and use a control loop to set the velocity of the wheel based on the angle. If you'd like to learn...

This is the third video of a series of independent projects I'm going to be doing over the course of the summer. Here, I explain the remote and control theory for the self-balancing robot. The premise is to use an inertial measurement unit to read the angle with respect to the vertical the robot makes, and use a control loop to set the velocity of the wheel based on the angle. This is the second video of a series of independent projects I'm going to be doing over the course of the summer. Here, I explain the electronics I'll be using to create a dynamically stable two-wheel balancing robot. The premise is to use an inertial measurement unit to read the angle with respect to the vertical the robot makes, and use a control loop to set the velocity of the wheel based on...
BUILDING a Self-Balancing ROBOT | PART 1 - Mechanics

This is the first video of a series of independent projects I'm going to be doing over the course of the summer. Here, I explain the mechanics of the dynamic system that describes the self-balancing robot. This is analogous to a common problem taught in dynamics/control theory classes: the inverted pendulum on a cart. If you'd like to learn more about properly controlling the inverted pendulum ...

sorrry to hear about your finger
Hello! I need middle finger. How to make this prosthetic finger? Help me please 🙏
Brother you uesd dc encoded motor why not stepper?
How can I get one like it?
Rest in peace young man
Can i learn from you how to design the device, i think it will help many people in my place 🙏

I lost the top of my right thumb and was wondering if you could make me a thumb like the one you made for your family member I am a mechanic and am now not able to grasp a-lot of objects missing the last section of my thumb
Amazing work.
This is wonderful Noah... I'm developing a finger joint implant, the idea is follow same principles you have here in your prosthetic design. I have the complete idea but don't know how to model it. Could you help me?
I had an accident at work 2 years ago. It caused me to lose most of the fingers on my left hand. I'm always looking for what you did. I want to do something like that for myself. .I would really appreciate it if you could share more and share me the 3d file.I really appreciate it. p/s: I'm not good at English so I have to use translation software. Hope you understand
I’m your biggest fan
omg
I've just found your great job and the video. Now, I'm trying to catch you up to build that robot but there are still some difficulties for me as I'm still beginner of coding and my native language is not English but Japanese. I'll keep watching your videos and be happy you could give some advises when I'm stuck. Hope you keep creating for all of us in the world.
How can I get the file ? 🙏🏽
he died RIP
I made like you hehe
Thankyou for your teaching
thanks a lot
We want CAD copy solisworks
I need a finger and i have a ender 3 im from Mexico and i want to print my own finger, can you Share the STL? Please
where the project model for print??
Great job on your design. Any progress with refining your design? Feel free to take a look at what I'm doing with my current 3d printed body powered partial hand design.
Hi Ian, thank you for commenting. I discovered your channel a few months after publishing this video--I'm very impressed by your work and your devices certainly have more functionality than what I presented here. I haven't refined this design at all, actually, NP targeted me and this video in a short-lived legal battle (so I'm a little scared to continue). Next would be adding an additional DOF for finger splay, and a bit more total bend of the finger. Keep up your channel, it's inspiring to many people!
Hi, Noah - How did you combine the Kinematic equations and dynamic equations for your self balancing robot?
I really respect you
I need you help how can I get from you a prostetic
Good job💪
My 5 year old son lost his index finger, can we connect for this design or do you recommend anything better ?
Hi sir, can i use motor 39rpm for robot?. Thanks
Que ótimo trabalho, você tem grande futuro, tenho certeza que ajudará milhares de pessoas. Abraço do Brasil!!
Bro amazing work. I need your help. I am doing this project with Encoder Motors with built in Hall Effect but I don't have much of an idea about speed and direction control using them. If possible please help me how can I do it. Thanks
Also, despite having the Hall sensors in your Motors you did not use them. Or did you? Kindly respond I am stuck in this project.
what is the part number of your motors?
@@drumbum7999 I don't remember but I managed to control the speed somehow.
The maintenance guy at my work is missing part of his finger from when he was 19, he said a saw blade went down the middle of it and it wasn't repairable. I thought I would surprise him with a prosthetic but I can't find any files and I'm not very good at designing things like that and I didn't want to measure his finger like a weirdo especially if I couldn't make it for him in the end. He said he called some places about getting one but they said they don't make that body part I guess. Idk why, I think it would be a nice little extra money, sell the half finger for like $300. It could be made out of silicone or something easy and cheap. One day I will make it for him and produce a free file for everyone to use and instructions on how to modify it. I have really long skinny fingers and his are short and stubby so I can't measure mine but I can probably start playing around with tinkercad.
The prosthesis is very good! Would you have the file to share and print it for someone who needs it?
Awesome project! I am also interested in the STL. My father in law lost parts of thumb, index and middle finger a few months ago... He needs solutions Asap to be able to continue his work. You would help so many if you were to share or sell the STL at affordable prices. Best
Hola soy de México una pregunta , Ami me faltan 3 dedos y esas prótesis son caras, crees poder apoyarme para saber cómo poder fabricar una , gracias y disculpa la molestia
Excuse me, can you show me how to get the values of TurnV and AngleV threshold?
It is better than nothing. Thank you!
Any Chance you could make me one or share stl for woodwork ? (Yea guess why I ask)
Yo ocupó 2 dedos mmmmm
Absolutely love this series! I am building one myself that I have started from scratch and am stuck on the code. Because of this I have chosen to rewatch the cleanest balancing robot video series on the internet. Thanks man!
could you please tell the wiring for encoder
I need this 😩 my right thumb is cut
Great video,,,,
Dude, please share that
I lost my thumb finger
so helpful , subscribed ")
Hi! what is the name of the program you used to simulate the linkage at 1:54 ? thanks!
have you made any changes since this video? Has anyone used this design for an index finger?
Please let me know if you decide to share this design. I would love to make some free for those that need them. I am working on getting the supplies for making free prosthetic full Hands currently. Great work!
