It says uchidachi is Hongu Toranosuke and shidachi Hayashi Yazaemon. Does that mean Hongu was more senior to Hayashi? The one on the right side is Hongu and Hayashi is on the left, correct?
Not sure who was more senior, but they came from the same generation, so there were probably not many differences in regard to seniority.
What a great display of skill! Thank you for sharing. Best regards from Germany! 🇩🇪
It looks simple, but it is a very difficult technique. Too much force will slow down the swing speed.
This style of swordsmanship was the most feared in Japan at the end of the Edo period as the most insane swordsmanship. There are no defensive techniques in their style.
I like this style
Those consecutive strikes are fast as hell
Чего я не пойму - зачем на коленках то ползать ?
Now I know why Zenitsu cries
though jigen-ryu was more like "all in a single attack, a second hit is not even to be considered"
And keep hitting until the enemy stops wiggling.
To get a sense of how terrifying Jigen Ryu is, next time you spar with someone, change the rules so that doubles count as a win for your opponent and they have zero self preservation… Now imagine someone who constantly fights with that mentality…
三人投げは壮観でした!!!
make it over 9000 and you have Howling Banshee
一人一人の太刀のクセは、変わらない様です?
雑やな
Utterly magnificent. This style uses the truth of combat as a weapon. Despite your training in the dojo, despite sparring, you WILL be afraid, and the Jigen Swordsmen cares for nothing but cutting you down. Fear is the greatest weapon.
Imagine they charging at you with that scream and Sharp sword

yes every man in the street carries a katana sword and a few nunchakas as well as a few ninja stars - just in case some drunken lout gets abusive while out drinking at the local pub. I'm sure the ninjas and sumurai warriors of old would have just carried a 9mm today - their aim was to destroy an opponent and defend their turf. I don't think Japan attacked and pillaged China, Korea and Philippines using swords!
swords were a backup weapon not the first to use even at medieval japan the Yari Spears and bows were the first choice to start the combat and also the tanegashima
I notice only now that in the name of the school, the "to" part is written 刀 and not 道 as it is usually done nowadays. According to Sugino Y. and Otake R., there were discussions about changing the name of the school in those years so it's not that surprising.
No,thans
1:43 you can clearly hear that japanese pronounce it jiu jitsu.
he literally said Daito ryu Aikijujutsu
@@mehl5820 Its not about Daito ryu Aiki its about that japanese pronounce it jiu jitsu even if its written ju jutsu in roman letters.
Big time fake martial art
Lol...no

Interesting, but terrible videography! (Particularly when there appears to be another camera on a tripod on the other side. Editing could have switched between the two, if the other one was actually recording.)
They basically give you 2 choices: give up defense, chop each other up, losing a limb or two; Defend, your sword spine will embed in your skull eventually.
Ever did that in a real situation against someone who puts on real resistance? I have. I once threw a guy who came at me in a bar. He spilled bear on my gf and when I confronted him he spilled bear on me. I pushed him. The guy literally backed to the other end of the bar and then started rushing at me. His hands were extended so to say, grab me. It was like he was handing it out for me. The opportunity was there and I just grabbed his wrist and twisted it. Whoops! Did a kotegaeshi. Man! It worked! I don't know if the stooge had done some training in aikido, but in any case, he fell on to the ground. Then I proceeded to secure him but some other guy jumped in and kicked the downed guy in the head. That was not right. Luckily the kicked guy was ok afterwards. But man, the kotegeashi...I'm telling you, it worked. That time against that guy, at least. Of course we were all a little bit drunk, but anyways, I felt like I was some sort of Steven Seagal or something. Fighting in a bar. I even remember seeing briefly a girl looking admirably at me doing my business. I'm telling you I even had a little ponytail back then! LMAO! 🤣🤣🤣
Ooooh.. I don’t know what a happening but it looks cool
Why are they so loud?
If you think it's joke, you would better to imagine "A man who swing a sword and scream everyday want to kill people" this is the Jigenryu
Копия Джеки Чана на лицо.
They leave arms open to strike 80% of the time with no parries to incoming swords aimed at their hands. Is this a real martial art or just a dance?
flashing5word It is not a joke, this is just a demonstration but in real life. It will be different. Jigen Ryu is very feared.
flashing5word However, knowledge of this fighting style has greatly decreased. Many predecessor of Jigen Ryu will probably laugh at this.
To answer your question, you must understand Jigen Ryu's philosophy. To the ryu, the best and only strategy is to attack and attack with sheer berzerker like ferocity with total disregard for your own life. If I die in the attempt, so be it. But I must destroy my enemy in the process as well. This is Jigen Ryu's approach to combat and why their swordsmen were so feared.
Never guard against a swordsman from Satsuma... cause then you can't cover your ears.
Very Well performed Aiki Jujutsu kata...

if you think it's a joke look at the wooden posts they're hitting with their wood swords. you don't wear down a solid wood beam like that with weak swings. these guys were scary back in the days when fights were still going on. a single cut from a jigen ryu fellow would probably chop off your limb. contrary to what you see in movies, normal samurai cuts wouldn't even make it through the bones in your hand. these guys wielded katana like meat cleavers and destroyed everything they touched. probably one of the strongest sword schools in japan.
Swordfighting isn't about who can hit hardest tho.
@@tomthefox8909 - Indeed, but not when one of the duellists falls down first.
@@tomthefox8909 if the enemy has to block you and you striking that hard? They get tired, very very quickly.
Out of curiosity has this style ever been used with a saber or gunto?
@@tomthefox8909They didn't just focus on hard hitting.
Looks like sugino ha, mine is ootake ha.. :)
Leonardus Carol You are correct, it‘s Sugino sensei‘s group, although the term „sugino-ha“ is not correct (same for otake-ha).
Cronsen thanks sir, hope u always blessed with good health. Im sorry for my bad english, love katori shinto ryuu from indonesia. :)
Leonardus Carol No problem :-) happy new year and greetings from Japan!

Hello I hope this comment reaches you M. Cronsen. I would like to know a bit more about your experience with Sugino Sensei. I practise Katori Shinto Ryu taught by Sugino Yoshio and I would like to share our experiences. Please get back to me. Best regards
sega7293 Good evening. What would you like to know?
Good evening ! You studied with Yoshio's second son am I right ? I would like to know what is the atmosphere during a lesson. As a fellow student and "teacher" (I have no better word since English is not my main language) I am interested in the teaching ways you experienced over there.
Is there any way to discuss this in private? If you are using facebook, please look for the page "Bugei Books" and contact the site administrator. He can refer you to me.
Sure ! this is the best way. Thanks for your answer.
11 engagements for ten techniques ? Looks like it was momentary lapse on number 7 Zetsumyōken causing a misfire and they repeated it doing it correctly the second time.
their battle cry is like an angry crow, terrifying if suddenly in your face out of nowhere.
Actually They named as 'Enkyo', ‘Monkey Scream' literally.
It is very similar to karate
I wouldn't be laughing at this. Jigen ryu has been greatly feared by other swordsmen of other ryu through out Japan's feudal period. Even the swordsmen of the Shinsengumi feared them and they were pretty nasty themselves.
Pshhh i could wipe these dudes using the hiten mitsurugi
Oh get the fuck out of here with that bullshit. It's an anime you asshole.
Dante No this is an actually fighting styles.
Jigen ryu is a real fighting style

Thanks for this nice video!! Greetings from Fudoshin ryu Hombu Dojo Amsterdam
It's Daitoryu Aikijijutsu, idori and hanzahandachi forms of first, ikajo, and second sequence, nikajo. Like idori forms of Yagiu Ryu, but with different names. Both Yagiu ryu and Daitoryu are "aiki" jujutsu tecniques. For example the same side-throw tecnique is named "hanminage" in Dairoryu and "yokotorinage" in Yagiu ryu.
Sorry, but the groups in the video are Araki-ryu and Yagyu Shingan-ryu.
I think that from a group of old "Aikijujutsu" forms, were developed some ryu like Daito, Yagiu. So some forms are different named but they are the same.
Is this a ryukyu art? What is the origin of the iaijutsu/kenjutsu component?
Motobu Ryu Udundi is a RyuKyu Bujutsu of the Royal class
The drawing sword which u refer to iaijutsu is different from mainland Japan sword thay draw it from middle and side but in Japan thay just draw it from side
Chien!
It should be nice video, when anyone cares the camera:-D
