A few years back, I started to write a 6502 NES emulator in modern C++17 using MSVC. It was quite a project to work on. The NES Dev wiki site is very valuable and useful and when I first started to take on this project and doing some research into it is what brought me to find other related topics such as Ben Eater's Y.T. channel for his 8-Bit bread board CPU in which I implemented his design in a program called Logisim. Since then, I had also come across a game on Steam called Turing Complete. Many years ago, I started to get into programming due to my interest in 3D Graphics / Game Engine design as well as Physics Simulations and Animations. As much as I enjoyed learning various topics throughout that process such as learning the various graphics APIs such as DirectX, OpenGL and Vulkan, I have come to appreciate and enjoy Hardware Design (ISA implementation just as much as doing 3D Graphics programming). This in part is reflective of some of my Steam Libraries titles that range from Factorio, Dyson Sphere Program, Satisfactory, Mindustry, Oxygen Not Include, The Planet Crafter, and more. If it's Engineering related: "The Factory Must Grow!" and if they have Trains, it's even an added bonus, if it's building Rockets, that's just as engaging. I love and appreciate channels that provide content such as this. Job well done on clearly explaining the design of the Richo chips. You covered most of the basic in less than 20 minutes where many paid for courses couldn't even do it in a single semester. Kudos!!!

The ZModem firmware is good, great in fact, but the 'theoldnet' firmware is even better, still free and downloadable, and the latest version also comes with a better way to upload to the ESP8266, but you need one with at least 4Mb, it won't fit on smaller boards.

in all cases where a human is holding the controller, USB polling rate vs SNAC matters approximately 0%. Believe it or not, console hardware like the NES, SNES, and any controller which has more buttons than it has wires on the connector uses polling to get the button data, same as USB.

I’ve been using the BlisSTer for almost 2 years now, and honestly, I don’t have a single gripe about it. The “worst” experience I had was getting Atari Paddles and a ColecoVision controller to work, but once you realize that specific controller presses are needed for them to be detected, it’s smooth sailing from there. Yes, it would be nice if the code code be merged into the official branch, but I’m OK with it for now. One other “gotcha” is that Uktimate MiSTer is the only vendor who makes a case designed for it. FWIW, I have no gripes about his case, and he was great to deal with, but I have to admit that I get a little jealous of those snazzy aluminum cases. About the pricing - yeah, it starts getting pricey, especially when you start to factor in cables. In my case, I already had previous experience with the Bliss-Box; I also own their 4-player model, which I bought with the complete cable set at purchase. The only adapter I had to buy after the fact was the DB15 cables for Neo-Geo.

Speaking of that floppy disc drive case, it would be awesome to see one with the big switches like on the 5 1/4 drives; you could slide in the card, then flip the switch with a satisfying "clonk". Well, the way you can do it is just by putting your favorite games on them. Those NFC cards, especially the tags or stickers literally costs only cents from AliExpress. Yes if you're going to put entire libraries on them, you will be bankrupt in no time. But I would say just do it for your top 50 games or something. I personally made a list of my top 120 games and ordered some tags. The tags were like $13 for 150 of them. You could of course do less, use cheap/expensive paper. Your call, have fun!

I think the key is to narrow it down and make cards for the games that you play often. If you have 1,000 cards, it's going to take you longer to find the game you want to play, than if you just launched it through the menu. But if you just have a couple dozen, grabbing a card from the stack and tapping it fast and easy. Although, I'll admit that creating cards is addictive, and I'm now at the point of having a card storage problem 😆

I know, everyone sold their collections and bought a MiSTer, now we're building ohysical media collections again. :)

I love this thing, MIDI has some really georgous sounds and GST's, to get the best version of the MT32-Pi, it's really worth installing a decent DAC & DSP, a DAC with multiple clocked oscilators and a DSP for clock rate select, sample-rate, and EQ + lowpass/highpass filters etc, I also want to add PGM chiptune audio to my MiSTer, as I love that sound too, a Philips SAA1099 will do nicely as well as ASLIB OPL3 sound, so I have the big three, Chuptune (PGM), ADLIB (FM) and MIDI (XG & GM), would be dope to have Tandy and Disney Sound Source too (COVOX) and even GUS, these are totally uniqe sounds that sound incredible in the games that use them, and are worth experiencing, I hope eventually we get an upgrade to the MT32-Pi, to make it an all pupose, universal hardcore synthisizer, for MT32, SC-55, SC-88, ADLIB, PGM, CVX4, GUS, SB-Pro, as well as a good DSP & dual DAC built in, and even a nice vintage HIFI quality Pre-AMP, and a VCO to pass everything through to modulate it all for shaping (depth, attack. clock, BPM, autotune, finetune, et cetera). Basically an official MiSTer add-on board dedicated to all of the above, that is also included in the framework, and with compatability to use the audio chipsets with console and arcade cores too, rather than exclusively for computer syetem cores, for this reasonI will always opt to play the computer ports of games, so I can use real audio hardware or the significantly higher grade audio that the MT32-Pi produces versus the standard audio from the FPGA+DAC, the FPGA puts outbit-perfect sound data for sure, but from there it just gets fed to the DAC, and it's sounds rather flat and lifeless, not to mention all charecter is lost from original hardware, being able to use the MT32-Pi as a DSP filter & EQ stage, plus a Pre-AMP, would completly transform the generic sounding standard MiSTer audio output for console & arcade cores.

Nice. I am impressed this stuff is possible. Not doing it well but doing it at all!

Great to see there is an active community around these! I had one when I was .. 14? maybe? I remember typing in some BASIC and saving/loading from cassette. Simple usable machine. IIRC journalists of the day liked the full travel keyboard and could file their copy down a phone line. But wow, sluggish by today's standards! We must've been more patient back in the day. :-)

If i only have usb controllers (8bitdo, logitech, etc) does the blisster and low latency have any benefit, or is it only for original hardware controlers?

Imo, the non accuracy problem is a non issue. If you are aware and have interest in emulation, you will be able to fix these accuracy problems with either hacked roms or specific configs on emulators. The question of emulation vs fpga is honestly about preference. Retro collecting is hell and emulators are amazing in my opinion, but if the accuracy bother the user that much, its good that we have options
