I kept my grandfather's journal where he documented not only his days working at Angaur during the Japanese times, but also filled it with stories of Chuuk that this video now confirms it. It seems the Chuukese people would rather have a foreigner rule over them than to unite and elect a Paramount chief, something that still can be seen today. He also wrote about particular men who during the German administration 'allegedly could' contact the spirit realm and when in such a trance, would recite words of ancient or perhaps esoteric origin.
Amazing. I thought Angaur phosphate mining was started during the Japanese administration. My grandfather (born 1921) was one of the workers during the Japanese administration and he would tell us stories when we were kids. Fascinating to know that it started almost 2 decades earlier and that his father possibly worked there too. I wish I could go back in time and ask him about it again😒
A white man came to Palau and turned the chiefs and spirit mediums against each other. All because the native palauans wouldn't do the white man's bidding. Sounds like another sad colonial story. Stop perpetuating these stories and revive indigenous rights. End colonialism.

RMI's first President Amata Kabua pretty much screwed over the Traditional Chief System in the Ralik chain, Businesses, and Government of the Marshall Islands with his hunger for power. He only thought about himself and his family. As a Marshallese, I have NOTHING to be greatful for when it comes to Amata!!
