Gonna drop this here while i can. But the talk of alcohol being a disinhibter, versus another point hes made about the requirement/prioritisation of consequence.... Is alcohol use popular in adhd members of society due to its disinhibitation that may also remove the obsessiveness over consequence!? Alcohol allows or enables more drastic action and decision making more so in adhd effected adults, because concern of consequence is in itself disinhibited?

I grew up in the 60s and 70s when ADHD wasn't known, teachers used corporal punishment, shame and humiliation to mitigate my behaviors and learning difficulties. I am glad to hear this man discuss ADHD openly and know the world will be a better place for people with this. I was a professional firefighter paramedic for 30 years, going on high stress-SHTF calls was my Adderall.

Sounds like he is really angry towards ADHD! He probably has untreated ADHD himself! THEY DISORDER RETARDED What a horrible person to use langauge like this! The mental health world needs to stop treating the mind & body as two separate entities and see that ADHD is from a disregulated nervous system from an attachment injury in childhood passed on from attachment injury in parents and so on......stop blaming the child adult for having ADHD The nervous system can heal and the brain is part of the nervous system! Wake up psychiatric world !!!

This video needs to be seen by all the parents that do not agree to treating their children. In my experience they are not informed and often consider themselves to be "better" or "smarter" than those that do. "I am not putting my child on drugs!!" In fact they are irresponsible and creating harm by refusing to help their children have better lives. Truly heart breaking.

So no hope in developing non verbal working memory without the ability to visualize? Need to revise in the light of new recognition of aphantasia Thankfully I know I have total aphantasia and don’t feel like crap hearing that I don’t have any of the abilities to recall dinner last night with images, senses, or recall of the conversation with the waiter. Which came first the chicken or the egg. Does aphantasia contribute to ADHD or ADHD contribute to Aphantasia? Because it’s one of the first abilities in the scaffold, it must be Aphantasia or some injury to that area of the brain that contributes to ADHD. Perhaps that’s why we don’t all present with ADHD in the same way. And I suppose let’s consider brain and emotional and prenatal trauma. I have no answers only questions. All that said I appreciate dr Russel’s lectures very much.

Dr. Russell Barkley is an absolute ADHD treasure. He is consistently on the frontline of ADHD research, fighting to spread awareness of the facts. It's also unreal, how the descriptions he lays out correlate with me like 90%. It's like he is describing, specifically ME, up there. It is effing BONKERS. Frankly, it's almost disturbing, just how much can be described about a person without even knowing them. 😬

I was diagnosed at 57 and have tried every type of medication available and I can't use any of them. The non-stimulants do not work. The stimulants give me so much anxiety at very small doses I can't function. The last one I tried was Foquest and it seemed to work with manageable anxiety but gave me such dry eye I couldn't function. It's taken me several years to try all of these since I stayed on all of them a considerable amount of time. Im also under the care of a psychiatrist.

I always caught myself saying I won't make it until I'm 40 if I keep suffering from this Mental Illness but I kept forgetting to realize it was my ADHD that I was diagnosed with years ago that's been creeping into my adulthood which definitely got me into addiction and self-medication I am now free of that life but this life is more miserable and it's not about sobriety it's about ADHD untreated but yes some people do use drugs to self-medicate traumas or certain other core issues it's when you get clean and you realize there is no emotional core issue, that's usually when it's ADHD that you're forgetting to acknowledge due to your ADHD and the fact that it's hard or nearly impossible to get treated for ADHD when you are a recovering addict even if your drug of choice had nothing to do with being an upper, I was an opiate addict and I did not get into offers because upper slowing me down and make me Focus as weird as that sounds, that's why I never got into cocaine or anything like that

The end of the video where it says the solutions is what I already do, not knowing that I probably have this problem. Notes all over the place, 15 minute pomodoros (25 is really long for me) with a 5 minute break, Alexa reminding me of things... things like that. And I like to plan, but when I have everything planned it's like I've already done it, and I go back to planning something else. Thank you for sharing the video.

I have just found out about Dr. Russell Barkley and am binge watching these videos now and it's fucking destroying me. Right now, while listening, I have literally 3 tabs open searching for professional psychological treatment facilities in germany after completely giving up on treatment 15 years ago (almost 30 years old now) because I was simply filled with the maximum dosage of adhd medication without any further treatment and losing all trust towards medical professionals as a result. This is giving me hope, this is rekindling a fire long extinguished that I could get better and do well in life if only proper treatment were to be applied to it. Thank you so much.

This man describes remarkably well every single problem that I encountered in my life. The worst about this disease is that since it's my daily reality since I can think, that this is normal. And that every failure is rooted in me being lazy and dumb. I am not absolving myself from anything. I could have researched this way more intensely and way earlier to find a solution. But I deluded myself into believing that this is how it is and I just have to try harder. But all I did with that is just avoiding the necessary steps for years. Again the worst thing about this sickness is your own inability to see it as such.

As an adult living with the (life-crushing) consequences of long-term incompetently treated ADHD- parents please, please listen to everything this doc says (in this video and other videos by him). His work in ADHD research is extraordinary. Trust me, especially if you don't know first hand what living with ADHD is like. This is the road map your kids need and deserve. Listen and then follow through- I wish someone had done it for me when I was young. I'm trying to do it for myself now- but there's a lot of fall out and so much has been lost over the years. If CZcams hadn't recommended Dr. Barkley and his work- all might be lost, but I'm finally moving forward. Everything your kids hope to achieve and to become- the foundation they need to build a future, their potential and right to freedom and happiness depend on it. They don't have a chance without this type of informed and compassionate treatment. Not one chance. Listen and follow through- it's the most supportive and loving thing a parent can do for a kid with ADHD.
