Roddy McDowell is awesome in everything he stared in, I loved Plant and the Apes and him in Fright Night which is my favorite. He also voiced several animated series. I am a Batman fanatic and his voice for Mad Hatter in the Animated Batman Series just brought memories of an awesome actor that loved what he did.

Absolute class!

He was also a well-respected photographer of other Hollywood legends. His book is Double Exposure.

He was a great actor--and, thankfully, a dedicated "borrower" of film masters from the studios. He just never returned them. His home library was legendary. And a godsend to film lovers to this day. When the studios were going out of business and shutting down, they threw out priceless props, costumes... and film masters of films that were not the huge hits. At least the ones Roddy had not "borrowed." Thanks to his insider knowledge and access, not to mention his love of good movies, we today can see so many more films of the Golden Age. Thank you, Roddy McDowell! ❤ (I have had such a crush on him since I was a little girl and learning this made me love him more. Oh and when I learned he was gay, nothing changed. I still crush on him!)

Did you notice the Jupiter 2?

I met the wonderful Lou Wagner at a Cinema Wasteland convention a few years ago, and he spoke to me in some detail how he would see Roddy often on the set with his film camera. Roddy would even film the helicopter ride from his home to the set to capture the excitement of his involvement. A classic, timeless film! Thanks, Roddy!

Roddy McDowall evolved into an ape, so there true evolving, ha, ha, ha.

Apes becoming human you know for a fact it will never happen when evolution has been going down the ladder of evolving since the original sin that Adam and Eve did at the tree on knowing good and evil. Adam lived to be 930 years old and was a giant human being and all creatures were all giants and living longer including reptiles that keep growing at any age.

They supposedly went to the "beginning" but never mentioned the Lydecker brothers. One of their innovations was to use larger miniatures and film them outside in natural light. They, along with their father earlier, did effects for a ton of films. They did the robots and sets for the 1935 serial "The Phantom Empire." They did effects for the TV shows "Lost in Space" and "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea."

I love Roddy, what a cool job that would have been to be doing the makeup for that and or any movie.

Brilliant and the makeup is still impressive today. I was acting in a tv show playing a dead person basically it took three hours just to make me look as if I had been dead for ten days . Then an entire afternoon lying on a floor all for about two minutes on the tv

Wow I’m surprised this wasn’t ever mentioned in “Behind the Planet of the Apes”

saw a video on another channel about Lost in Space and it showed a view from a helicopter of Roddy and it showed the full scale mockup of the Jupiter 2 on the studio lot. I believe that is in this video at around. 9:19. he was known for making lots of home videos at his beach house and many stars of the day went there to hang out, have a drink, have a cigarette and chill.
