    Hey Neal I am building a n scale layout in the spring. I am giving serious thought in going with battery rc dead rail. The last thing I need to find out though if im gonna go with battery is will the battery be able to give my lokos the same pulling power that my Bachmann starter set transformer will? With new gears and a couple extra driver wheels with traction tires I got my Bachmann 4-8-4 northern (with the throttle on full power) to pull 25 rapido coupler pizza cutter flanged wheeled cars over a mock setup of the toughest grade I gonna have on my layout. My goal is 35-40 cars and if I add couple more traction tire drivers and some weight .on the front part of chassie to keep the loko from wantin to do a wheelie, I think its possible. I couldn't find much of any videos on CZcams of n scale, or ho pulling heavy freights with battery power. Most of dead rail videos On youtube they are haulin trains like the ones you are runnin. I've asked a handful of people this question with no real diffinitive answer. Maybe you can answer this question for me. Hope to hear back from ya. - steve

      You shouldn’t have any problems except finding room for the batteries. A friend has a very large layout in S scale that is run the same way and no one notices!

    • @ChristinaLarsen-dk1pe
      @ChristinaLarsen-dk1pe Před 7 měsíci

      O yea bout how much run time do you think a 430 mah battery give me?

    • @ncearchitect
      @ncearchitect Před 7 měsíci

      It really depends on the current draw of your locomotive. My guess is that an N scale engine would be 0.5amp per hour so nearly an hour running without recharging. This engine recharges when power is on the rails so seems to never run out of power.

    • @ChristinaLarsen-dk1pe
      @ChristinaLarsen-dk1pe Před 7 měsíci

      I'd be happy with a 60 min run time. I'm not a expert when it comes to electronics but I was guessin that 430 mah would give me somewhere round 30 min run time. And I would have to get another chip that would allow me to charge the battery off the rails?

    Neil, Unfortunately, I just found this video/sound test. I do not know why it just showed up. Anyway, I feel all the mics worked out okay. I say, use the one that is more convenient for you. The real test would have been to repeat the same sentence on each test, in the same tone and at two different distances on each. Up close and back a ways from the mic. As to the direction mic, it might come in handy if you are running trains while talking so that the sounds from the trains do not drown you out. Which one did you prefer? There folks creating model railroading content on CZcams that I feel have a problem with their mics, because you can tell when they have turned their head away from the mic by the amount of fade they get in their audio. I found a good source about being a content creator on CZcams for model railroading. Charlie at the Chadwick Railway made a very good video about this on his channel. czcams.com/video/Gqj-qdNJHIk/video.html

      @@OahuRailway I think you will get a kick out of the video link I sent you. Charlie tells it like it is. He starts out with bloopers, but gets into the meat of the discussion. Do's and Don'ts, thing to build your channel, thumbnail titles, and equipment to use. I've considered being a content creator. I made notes from Charlie's video. 1.5 pages handwritten which I will organize later into Word. Let me know what you think.

    All 3 mics that used the sound board sound best, but the mobility and quality combination of the airpods seems like a good combination. Number 4 sounded good for a headset, but they are ugly and apparently uncomfortable. I'd say if you want mobility, go with the Airpods, if you want the best audio, go with the Shure.
