Where do you get your climbing spikes, model? Amazon? Thaks in avance!
Can you use them on public land in Arkansas?
What size lineman belt are you using? 11 mm?
Anybody try sport climber tree spikes
Thanks for the info 😊
what kind of spikes are those? what brand is what im asking
There's a deer that looks a lot like that behind my Dad's house this year. Almost that exact rack but the fork is on the left side. He made it through gun season.
Very informative.. thx bro! A lineman buddy gave me some & I’m getting tree gaffes put on em right now. He said dont use normal spurs.
Did I miss the amp set up? Pedals. Etc
I’ve been hunting with climbing spikes for a couple years and love them. I repel out of the tree so I don’t have to worry about dropping my spurs. Food for thought!
But, Against the law on state land in certain states!!
I am 74 years old and do not use tree spikes anymore. But when I did use them for climbing I did not use the Lemans belt while I climbed I only used it when I hung my lock on stand. When using tree spurs You don’t have to walk around the woods looking for that perfect tree if you find good deer sign just climb in a tree when the wind is right.
Deer are amazing how they can absorb that amount of energy dump and their brains still throw them into overdrive
Use a rope from harness to spikes to prevent them from falling
That's hardly a good result. You gut shot the deer. The bullet passed straight through and the deer ran. Perhaps you should learn about bullet placement first before you shoot live quarry. Heart or lung shot will drop it where it stands . Moron
Pickups ?
I climb trees for a living. When I hunt, I’ll be in a climbing stand or lock-on. I’m not sitting in a saddle to hunt after sitting in one all week. And spikes damage trees, no matter what anyone tells you. It’s just a matter of whether or not you care.
This is what I need
Every tree on my land has a price tag on it. You break it you buy it. And southern pine beetles are everywhere so no spikes allowed.
Everyone asking about the buckles.. I just made a pair of spurs and I used a strong dog collar clip! If it holds a Rottweiler it’ll hold my feet.
Might be lightening my pack with spurs..8lbs replaced with maybe 2lbs
How do you get the gun up the tree?
Does the spike hurt the tree?
Hoping this doesn't happen but what is the backup plan if for whatever reason you bump or accidently knock off your spikes? What is your options to get down?
Rapell.. I think I’m going to climb up take my spurs off and put them in my backpack and repel down next year. Voice text
My Pawpaw always said “you’ll mess up soon as you think you’re doing good” I highly recommend tethering your spikes, because now you will drop one lol
Those buckles are surely not rated to take the load of your body. I use spikes a lot and rhey come with heavy leather straps and a belt buckle style for a good reason IT IS STRING ENOUGH to hold you witbout breaking and causing your foot to slip out of the spike
They don’t need to be load rated to handle your body weight. They simply hold the spike in place on your foot which is what is holding the weight. The G hooks I currently have on my carbon spikes can handle some weight. Never had a single issue with them. The leather straps are no doubt the safest option, but I hated them.
I'm glad you made this video, I been seeing all other climbing methods for saddle hunting. This is what I been wanting to know about. Ty
Coming from someone who has done tree work. You only use spikes If the tree is coming down completely while doing a tree job. Maybe something like a shagbark hickory they won't bother it but on a maple or other smooth bark tree like a beech your damaging the tree. I worked for asplundh for 4 years and left and went to private work because they were spiking trees that did not need to come down. If power company's do your trees tell them to only spike trees that are coming down. Its just because of laziness. Without spikes its harder but we live in a lazy society where everyone wants the easy way out. But everyone is following the Native American saying of killing your grandchildren to feed your children. Only when the last tree has been cut, Only when the last fish has been caught, Only when the last river has dried, We will learn we can not eat money. Native American proverb that your children and there children will probably learn because of how we left them.
what type of climbing Gaffs are these? you said you had silencers on them? thanks
Making me nervous when you put that right boot back on in that heel strap wasn't up
25 yrs as a climber 9 deer while wearing spurs and saddle
As a certified arborist I climb on spurs nearly every day, but only on dead or dying trees identified for removal. They should not be used on live trees as they open up wounds for pests and diseases to enter otherwise healthy trees.
Definitely the best climbing method when possible. Subscribed
For someone not having a clue about tree climbing, maybe...

Why take off the spikes? I would end up dropping one . For me I would have to keep them on.
Too much potential for noise leaving them on
are you using a repel rope now the your climbing spikes?
This video convinced me to get some spurs. I have been hunting in them this season but taking them on/off as they came from are a pain. What webbing and buckles do you recommend?
Great stuff and agree 100 percent!!
Only video I’ve seen where they go through the full process. Thanks!
Gut shot. Bullet enters behind the ribs.
Wrong 😂
I know it's been 7 years but do you recall if this item had a rigid insert in the back?
Yes it did
How would you approach this during the rut with less leaves and cover with a rifle or shotgun?
Hunts like this are typically an early season tactic for me. You can certainly target bedding with less leaves and cover but it’s harder. It’s also less predictable during the rut. I have sat farther back with a gun and killed them too but early season patterns are king lol
Fantastic man. Very helpful. Thank you!
I was debating between sticks and spikes and spikes just seem better in so many ways. Thanks for demonstrating
Hey man I just seen this video is there anyway you can send me the gear you use ?
Any chance you could provide a link to what kind of quick release straps you’re using?
I’m a saddle hunter and a climbing stand hunter who hunts a lot of public land and I agree that climbers cause as much or more damage to trees. Good point. I use a climber in the cold months when I have on heavy clothes. God made the trees for us, so don’t be so apologetic. I’d already have a pair of spurs if I had access to good private land. Great video!
Great video no more worrying about a holes stealing a set
They Damage trees. Arborist only use them when they remove trees. Bad idea
No - I think you guys are wrong. I think the shooter is right handed and has the camera to his right so he can reach the controls. It looks like he hit him in the liver and the bullet ranged forward and struck his left leg and broke it. So it likely hit the lower lobes of the lungs. The deer is standing with the left front leg back and after the shot he does not throw that leg forward to run so I would say he broke the front leg on the off side.
You are SPOT on 👍🏻
Whereabouts in wv are you from? Wouldn’t mind connecting on some public land hunts with ya.
