Welcome! This video is about our family's favorite early chapter books. We currently have two independent readers- and 8 year old boy and a 6 year old girl, so we have read many, many easy chapter books over the course of them learning to read. These are just the ones deemed "best" in our home. 🙂

Oh, my word you got a sweetheart of a deal on your HC 5-foot bookshelf! I am insanely jealous 😭. That being said, If you are on a journey to complete your classical education, may I recommend "Great Books of the Western World" and "The Great Ideas Program" put out by Encyclopedia Britannica? Mortimer Adler and Robert Hutchins were the editors and developed an entire curriculum to help adults gain a classical education all on their own. The program includes a syllabus, discussion questions, and suggestions for further study. Also, as a homeschooler I highly recommend "The Annals of America" book series (also by Encyclopedia Britannica) which is a 20-book set of first-hand accounts of American History from the 1500's through 2001; this set is criminally under-appreciated and can be found on places like eBay and AbeBooks for around $50.

Have you forgotten what the title of this post of yours is? Do you know that, at the time of my commenting here, you've spent all of the time so far talking about yourself instead of the Harvard Classics. In case you aren't aware of this, we aren't into studying you.

    • @abbyr.2602

No need to be rude, nor speak on behalf of all her viewership. My understanding of her title was that she would explain HER personal reasons for “embarking on this journey” of reading through the Harvard Classics. As someone who is interested in doing the same, I found her video very insightful and encouraging. It’s fascinating to see people from all walks of life become connected through these books. It seems like her video was not what you were looking for and that is fine, but no need to put her down for her efforts. What’s the point of gaining knowledge and intellect if you lose your humanity along the way? I hope your day/life gets better.

  • @WelshRabbit

The Harvard Classics are also available in ebook format for the Kindle for next to nothing. That format gives you the ability to search as well as non-destructively highlight and make notes, and with one click look up words in the linked online dictionary. With all those pluses, I still prefer reading from a real book. You are very fortunate to have acquired a set for $25.

Book two of the C. S. Lewis Space Trilogy is about Ransom going to Venus and being the proverbial angel on the shoulder of Venus's Eve to convince her not to sin. Meanwhile, Weston is pretty much literally possessed by Satan to tempt her. Book three is nothing like one and two. It's set on Earth, Ransom is a fairly minor character, and it's mostly about a couple trying to keep their marriage from falling apart while the husband works for this organization that is working with aliens/demons to try and take over the world. There's also a severed, speaking head involved, if I remember right. Yeah. If you didn't like book one, you probably won't like the rest of the series. 😂😂😂
