Top Man! 💪🏼 Great video, buddy. I'm 55, and I started out as a carpenter. I've been 'on the tools' for most of my life. Like you, I have seen some sites, literally in disbelief sometimes... 🚐 My dad was a mechanic, carpenter and then became a corgi gas fitter. During my apprenticeship I also learnt some plumbing, so years later I decided to go to evening college and learn more. After 4 years I qualified in plumbing & also electrical installations. 🚐 During that they asked if I wanted to become a teacher, as I naturally starting helping others... I've been teaching for six years, now. However, last year I 'died' effectively and was in the ICU and also had a mini stroke. So now I'm looking at converting a van to hit the road and travel... I would think choosing a Transit in the first place is a MAJOR mistake? Very unreliable, and yearly need for MOT welding, are both issues that will need to be dealt with by Transit owners.

Those ovens need ventilation around the sides, be cautious if you're going to cover it with something 'behind drivers seat' they're not bad little ovens for the price but yes, really for open areas and/or large tents; I have seen them in vans but with 35mm gap at least all around and fireboard used.

Good video here. Especially concerning seeing the gas installation and the woeful electrics! There's plenty of free decent guides available online (12 volt planet etc) and current capacity figures for various cable diameters. I'm all for people learning but electrics and gas/fuel are things you shouldnt mess with unless you are competent and have had your work checked by qualified professionals.

Holly crap i am having the exact same issue with my VW polo. I have replaced the the whole turbo and actuator.. after a few days the flashing glow plug light and engine managment light came back on

Hi, we're up-plating our VW crafter to 4.23 ton. We've had the wheels changed to the right BFG and are booked in to change our suspension to 5 ton air bags. We were in contact with the van weight engineering company but I've just messaged them and the replied that they aren't taking on any more customers at the moment due to unforeseen circumstances. Are there any more companies that can help us with the paperwork side of up-plating our van? Or alternatively, is it easy to complete the paperwork ourselves once the work is done to the suspension? It's all so complicated! Help would be greatly appreciated please, thanks 🙂

You couldn’t have purposefully created a video that shows why Smoke, LP, CO monitors/alarms should be in EVERY camper/RV/van build.

I’ve tried repairing my injectors a few times now..& no matter what it always leaks oil from the rocker cover O seals. Purely down to price I haven’t used the vw ones I’ve always use aftermarket and they seem more soft than I would expect. Do you think it’ll fix it for good if I fork out and buy the vw ones?

are those batteries vented to outside? Hydrogen generated by lead batteries poses a very explosive problem in the cabin.

Good informative video. The issues you point out are more common that people think in vans built by 'amateurs'. I've seen the gas bottle secured by a bungee cord on more than one occasion.

Awesome video. Very Helpful. I am replacing my Astra J GTC clutch elbow, because the clip broke and clutch pipe came off. Now that clip is nowhere to be found on internet, so I'm getting a new clutch elbow 15 quid. and I'm getting this Sealey one, it has gone expensive though. Hopefully, I will have a solid clutch feel after my work. Never done a cycle repair, learning from YT.

This is why we have legends like you to show us how it’s done. I believe if you’re not confident in doing it pay somebody it’s safer.

Does any of the interior equipment, cast iron cookware, batteries etc ever exit these vehicles due to inertia during a road accident?

With respect to the gas drop out under the cooker I noticed you don’t have any stepped timbers around the base of the unit to stop any gas flowing out to the night heater or out to the habitation area. You need to Barton round the base of that unit so leaking gas only has one exit, the drop out!

Made a really neat job of that. Especially with the limited space you had.

Great job, the only thing I’d like to see is copper all the way to the appliance. You shouldn’t have flexible rubber hose to an appliance. Otherwise great. NCC approved engineer

I should have brought Viv to you to do a video on before I ripped everything out of the nightare conversion I had done. Just goes to show how many dodgy converters there are. There should be a set of legal standards to govern such conversions so nobody like me and your buddy ever get screwed over by cowboys again. . You definitely saved you friends’ lives, and possibly many others. I learned a great deal. Shoddy work is why I wouldn’t ever buy any of the DIY vans I have seen. In considering doing my own, I have a DIY rule: recognize when you’re out of your league, call in the pros. Often, cheaping out gets really expensive, possibly with your health or life.

We all need a multi faceted cautionary tale sometimes , to make sure we don’t drop into the dangerous mistakes that you’ve shown here. Thanks Sam😊

Our neighbour as just gone away in his self build camper, it took him 6 months of cutting, welding, hammering and banging. Everything was on the cheap, make do and mend mentality.

AFERIY CHARGE VERY HIGH RETURN COST, TRY TO MAKE YOU NOT TO RETURN. I bought it due to many youtube introduce, so I thought it is good brand so I boguht it. However, It asked for a double shipping charge when i request to return. Even they said it is free delivery, but when you return, they ask you pay also their delivery cost. means you have to pay both ways. I seldom see this kind of company in UK, normally free delivery products, when we return, we just need to pay our own return delivery cost. IN THIS CASE, YOU HAVE TO PAY VERY HIGH COST WHEN YOU HAVE ANY RETURN. BETTER THINK OF OTHER BRAND. I do have allpowers station as well, their service very good. At least will not ask you pay back the stated "free delivery cost" when return. Recommand you to buy other better aftersell service brand. Afterall, not only the product itself is important, but also after sales service also very important.

Thanks Sam, really useful and informative video. You're right with, in generally, people don't know the amount of post production work. Or the hassle to put tools down and film. I'd never have the patience! When I did our handbrake shoes, it took me ages to adjust that wheel. Great idea using the bolts for leverage though 😀👍

Question for you mate. Im going to copy you, only thing is once u put your 15mm ply into the ally channel are you putting the PVC over the channel lip when glueing it to the PLY. Just never seen that parf in your video. Cheers mate
