1999 Suzuki Intruder VS800GL Front Carburetor Rebuild Part #1-Removing the Carb
Great video!
You didnt show how to get the old bearing races out of the frame sterring stem,im at that point theres nothing to rab onto
You just hit the #4 intake lobe with the spanner... What a mess!
"Tap on the exhaust studs? Are You nuts?
Thanks for the view.
Why did You leave the cams there, right under the impact driver to fall upon them? Amateur!
Awesome video,I just bought an 03 Suzuki marauder and it's running on the back cylinder because gas was coming out of a tube on the front carb so I needed to see how to remove mine so I can put a kit in it,thanks and keep up the good work.
Those bearings are now over-packed. They should only be 33% packed to prevent increased friction and leakage. The engineers that designed them packed them that way after untold hours gathering empirical data on the optimal lubrication, they didn't just forget to pack the other 2/3 of unoccupied volume.
Where do the O rings that come with carb kit go? Thanks
My second motorbike whas a new Yamaha XS1100 S black with golden wheels and 95PK and much tork !
They are great bikes. Lots of fun !
Great video but your instructions have one MAJOR flaw. When removing the head the FIRST fasteners to losen are the small head nuts on the front and rear of the cam chain tunnel. NEVER NEVER losen the main head bolts first or you can crack the cam chain tunnel noses. This is also indicated in the losening sequence in the service manual. You might get a way with it but the risk is very high and there are many cracked cylinder banks out there from making this mistake ... and guess how I know. Those M8 nuts at the cam chain tunnel are the FIRST to losen and the LAST to tighten. Don't make this mistake.
Thanks for the info. I am always learning !
Restoring a 78 right now and yiur vids have been lifesavers, thank you!
Glad to help
Rebuilding mine now, thanks for the detailed vid!
Hope it helps !
Great vid!
Thanks for the comment !
Sir I’m a young man 20 years old needing to take apart my carbs and clean them I have a 94 Suzuki intruder gs800vl could u make a video for me or point me in the right direction 😅 I can’t find anything on how to take them out of the motorcycle fully explained. Ur video helped a little but not that confident
Sorry I dont have one of those to make a video about. The Service Manual is always a good place to start. Good Luck !
Pulling the front carb is a trick, but he explains how to do it. It’s semi-difficult, best advice is to take pictures/video, and get some painters tape and label, wrap wires, wrap up hardware with screws, get yourself an organizer bin too if it helps, and last, if it feels like you’re pulling or prying to much, it’s not the right way, don’t want to break stuff, and write down the order of what came off
Any more from this video?
Unfortunately Emma was Sold when I had to relocate.
If you're doing this. Just cut the damn plastic ties on the wires lol. It'll make ALL of this SOOOO much easier. And then just tie them back.
This is an excellent video kind sir. Thank you very much for sharing very helpful very informative. You're awesome man God bless you
Thank You. Kind words Indeed !
Hey, i just bought a suzuki marauder 98, is it the same way to remove the carburetor?
I am not sure. I have never messed with the Marauder. Sorry.
Thank you so much for this video I’m rebuilding one
Thanks for the views
Can you explain which holes or for which hose to attach? In your front carb video, you explained where each hose attaches (seam cable, breather hose, gas inlet, choke, etc).
Not sure exactly what you are asking.
Should have took pictures
Hi, Im having a whale of a time with my 1400, would you mind giving some advice or any ideas as to why this is happening? 2000 Intruder Vs1400, carbs have been cleaned 3x, jetting is all OEM , cobra slash cut slipons, bike has been synced, mixture screws set to 2 turns out,,, Bike starts great and is fast and strong for about 15 good mins of fast riding, then it seems like the idle has sped up and has become surgy and it "hitching" almost like it wants to stall, Plugs are new and floats are set to spec,,,Im not sure if this is still a carburation issue or if there is something else that could be causing this, any ideas? Here is the video czcams.com/users/shortsEqatI8vlAZg
check if the fuel pump is good, these like to rust inside the pump and clog the system
They there, did ya ever figure this out? I’m having a similar problem on my ‘07 Boulevard S50.
@@hylander2126 I did 2 things, I tighten the sparks plugs a bit more and switch the igniton module out for a dynatek 3000, it seems to be fixed
@@thedaydreamer7972 Thank you!
Float height?
What's the float height supposed to be. Ive got.a 96 intruder 800
do you think it would be the same on and 1986?
Yes. i am not sure much changed on the Intruders before they became the Boulevards
Great video series, I have the VS1400 do you think the process is similiar with that bike? I was thinking to service the carbs with the sync cable still attached and just getting them up off the bike enough to pull the carbs apart and clean while leave some cable still attached, what you think? TY!
It is very similar. I also have a VS1400, 1994. I have pulled them off, and rebuilt them. I have not tried keeping them attached.
@@mothershipmotorsports9802 Have you tried "uncorking" the 1400? I hear with free flow air filters and proper jetting its a totaly different hot rod bike
@@thedaydreamer7972 I have not but some "Upgrades" may be in the future !
Is there any way to change the front carb bowl gasket without completely removing the carbs?
Not that I am aware of. There may be a way, but there just isnt a lot of room for that. Give it a shot and let me know ! Thanks
Does anyone show how to adjust the front float please help!!
If you look in the manual it shows where to measure from for both carbs. I cant remember without looking though.
You had a covid issue? Yeah.....I had a cold too...
Mine was MORE than a cold unfortunately. Included a hospital stay
This job is a pain in the ass I will never buy another suzuki marauder
It REALLY is. I think the Suzuki engineers must have had tiny hands !
Love your teaching style man...subscribed and settled in to watch more!
I appreciate the comments....Thanks
Does it take a special tool to fit the carb drain screw because i have stripped mine and having a hard time with it . thank you .
Yes most Japanese bikes use JAL screws. It is has a special angle on the screw that makes it easy to strip when using a standard Phillips screwdriver. Just look for some JAL Screwdrivers. They are not expensive.
@@mothershipmotorsports9802 It's actually JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) You can buy JIS screwdrivers, but pretty much every Japanese motorcycle came with a tool kit that included a JIS screwdriver. You think this is hard, just try removing and reinstalling the carburetors on a Kawasaki Vulcan 750. It will make you want to push the bike over a cliff.
Great video I have a 97 vs800 is it safe to assume the carb rebuild is similar?
Yes, absolutely
Do you rebuild the secondary carburetor also? Also, my intruder max mph is 65mph. Is that normal or what could or can I do to increase the mph or what’s wrong with it? I’m beginning to think because of my weight. I’m 265 pounds. I’m not obese, but I’m dead weight. Thanks
Yes I rebuilt both, they are similar. That is NOT normal. I Had a similar problem, it ended up being restriction in the air filter. It was wet with oil blow back. I had to rebuild the carbs and re route the breather tube
I wouldn't take all the cables off just to clean it
This same type of bike is my neighbor's only source of transportation and he was having a front carb issue. Your video helped us tremendously in getting him back on the road..You are truly awesome
Glad it helped
Awesome helpful video!!
Thanks for watching !
I’m doing a rebuild on my intruder as well. That 6mm bolt next to the float, what does that thread into. I took everything apart and give the body a bath got everything together and that bolt just doesn’t reach threads.
Unfortunately I don't own that particular bike, and I can not think which bolt you are talking about. Your best bet would be look it up on an exploded diagram. It should shed some light on it for you.
So helpful! Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Cool video dude! Very informative
Thanks for the view ! I need to do some fishing vids
@@mothershipmotorsports9802 heck yeah I’d watch them! 😂
Just so you don't look too stupid. FYI , any time you put steel bolts into aluminum use Anti-Seize compound like copper grease or else you will never get the bolts out with out galling the threads.
Yeah I noticed I didnt after I had already reassembled. Thanks for the comment
Just a little FYI, before you loosened the axel caps I noticed they were clamped INCORRECTLY, the GAP should be toward the rear, not the front as shown in your video. Check the YAMAHA book on this.
Thanks for the info!
hope a new one is coming soon
Working on a new one now.
I hope all is well. You haven’t put out any new videos recently.
Sorry I will get back to it.
So I went ahead and subbed this channel! I have no idea what you are doing but it looks interesting, and after all the work you do on that bike I hope it's worth a bazillion dollars!
Thanks for the sub. Actually it will probably be like this.....Start with $500 bike, work 200 hours and spend $2000...Bike is Now worth....$1500...Its a labor of love !
Excellent video. Camera man did a great job, and so did the man doing the carburetor rebuild. Good job! Learned from this video.
Thanks, glad it was helpful
Gotta love a XS1100! just came over after seeing you on TexasRider 🤘

On the front carb there is a long screw on the left side do you have any idea what it’s used for, I have synchronized my carbs with a homemade manometer and they are pulling even at idle and will stay even when I advance the throttle but as soon as you go to speed up or slow down the idle they go out of sync... my guess is that the butterflies in each carb are not moving at the same time obviously when I make an adjustment with the main idle knob. Do you guys have any idea why it does not stay in sync.
The way I did it was set the idle where I wanted to run it at ~1100 rpm. Then sync the carb at that point using the idle sync adjustment. Then sync it at the higher rpm using the throttle sync. I am not sure why changing the idle would "un"sync the carbs. By syncing the carbs you are using vacuum to verify that the butterflies are opening equally. I would check for vacuum leaks and verify that I am using the correct sync points. Here is a pretty decent video on syncing the carbs. czcams.com/video/DyiIiIuF05I/video.html. As for the long screw. If it is the one I am thinking of I believe it to be a linkage stop. Unfortunately I sold that bike awhile ago so I cant remember. Sorry.
@@mothershipmotorsports9802 yes the long screw on the side of the carburetter is a stop definitely and I used it to fine-tune the sync on the front carb... not to sure if that was the correct thing to do lol but both carbs pull the same at idle until I change the idle up or down lol, I will try to increase rpm on the idle screw and then re-sync the front carburetter with the sync cable and see what happens, my vacuum diaphragms looked really good when I had the carbs all apart so I’m not sure where I would have vacuum leaks....I will definitely watch the video thanks very much and I appreciate your help and the videos ...you guys take care and have a good one.
Hey Great Duane great video on the brake rotors. When you speed up the hammering it sounded like a mini jack hammer lol
