I think there is one wad of cash that's optional and you can skip. If I remember correctly, it's on top of poo mountain, or on a cliff near that area. I forget exactly, it's been years.

They should make "Banjo Threeie" (using the same design they used for smash bros, that design was better), Banjo Threeie should go back to the old style of gameplay Banjo had, ignoring everything that happened in nuts and bolts. And a running joke throughout the game should be things like characters asking "Shouldn't this Banjo four?" Just to have Kazooie respond "No, I think that was just a bad dream", every time.

I hate the backtracking and sidequests in the levels themselves also, with some of the jiggies requiring 10 minutes or more to get. Still it's interesting that you don't need to come back to many levels especially if you know some tricks!

Hotline Miami has always been interesting to me ever since I found out about it. I love the discussion surrounding the game about the reasons we enjoy violence, why we can sympathize with some characters while being completely ambivalent to the fate of others. Its relation to violence and the military and underground organizations seems just so perfect. That one cannot justify gratuitous violence. Organizations that commit harm are always really sketchy. In terms of revolution it is absolutely needed but only as much as is necessary. There’s also definitely something about masculinity and violence something about emotions being mostly anger in Jacket’s case but I’m too small brain to think of that rn I’ve also heard someone talk about the fans as in the devs clowning on the people who asked for more Hotline Miami especially the ones that play as gun and gore go brrr. The fans of Hotline Miami glorifying the sheer amount of violence Jacket commits. If I remember correctly MamaMax (I hope that mf is g o n e from this hellsite) is definitely one of those weird fans that completely missed the message.

Yooka Laylee also kind of made transformations have that same problem of being niche. Why not give the player a temporary power up that ends when you leave the world? Lets me play the same guy without all that backtracking or playing a slow character. Mumbo, and perhaps by extension the transformations all were coming from a time in old video games where playing as a different character was cool regardless of the context. Probably why DK64 was designed the way it was, kids thought more playable characters was badass, me included.

Ellen's dialogue is so funny for the wrong reasons, like how quickly they shift in how they speak is so jarring. I still remember the scene in the elevator when Ellen starts to realize what's happening, the voice actress putting on a good performance of someone panicking and feeling terrified, and then you select "Fight back" and Ellen goes "Take this sucka!!" and the contrast in voice work is so goddamn funny to me

I remember renting this game from my local store repeatedly for weeks and since I don’t have the expansion pack thing, I just left it in till I had to return it and reset my progress.

I really appreciate you mentioning top ride and air ride in depth. A lot of folks hate on them, when for me they were just as much what made this game special as city trial.

I just cant get myself to play this game every time the battle comes in play i really absolutly dispise the abomination i fkn hate it feels like a house chore you really hate and delaying it but ending up never doing it, im at the origami castle but i dropped the game. Never finished it, the rest of the game was a 10/10 but still dint make up for the combat its that terrible even with a open mind

I still prefer Tooie to the original, but really love both almost equally. Tooie was the first one I owned, but I played Kazooie with a neighboor who had it, and lended the game to me several times. He eventually sold that copy to me several years later

The way I see it, the game adaptation suffers a LOT when it tries to take narrative liberties, especially with the two “non-canon” endings. The main draw (at least imo) of IHNMAIMS is how unapologetically dark and hopeless it is, and adding out-of-place lore about a colony of humans in space just to inject a “good ending” really cheapened the experience. Having a less overtly positive route would have fit a lot better; maybe all 5 characters surviving and continuing on with newfound empathy and care for each other, despite their situation. Idk, there were some great ideas and work put into this adaptation, but it just needed a bit more.
