Thank You.
Just wanted to say Thank You, to everyone who watched “Monsters,” and supported my filmmaking career this far.
The question I try to answer is, what’s next?
I don’t know yet, but eventually I will, and I will update you when I’m back in full force again.
To every horror and film fan out there,
I love you all.

    Boring and with illogical scenes: 1. Talking all day by phone out of her apartment until dark?...come on!...not logical at all, specially if is about a hard situation. 2. The hand over the bar at the staircase?...and she instead going up decides to go donwstairs?...totally insane going after someone that's chasing her. 3. Being stalked by someone and she doesn't realize even when the bad guy is around the corner of the wall at the hallway?...no sense at all! 4. The girl on the sofa, talking with a demon, doesn't she realize that guy is an entity and just staying there without going away to another place?...not possible! 5. At the last scenes, the guy that acts like the devil, looks more like a psychotic murderer than an evil entity, even what he said is something that only a mentally sick person would say. I started feeling sleepy from the min 15...waste of time. You need to do it a lot better.

    Solid film mate! I really enjoyed listening to the score for this film as it was definitely reminiscent of 80s and 90s horror and even something as recent as the terrifier movies! A few questions, when did you start making this film and what was the overall process like when directing and editing this film together? What were some challenges you faced when developing this piece? Also, what movies, literature, etc inspired this film? Again, a well made film! Cheers :)

    • @SpencerLSimmons
      @SpencerLSimmons Před měsícem

      Thanks for giving it a watch brother, glad to hear you liked it and its score! I started this film back in December 2021, and concluded filming around May 2022. My overall process with this film was to tell a story in a single location with as much atmosphere as possible. The actors and actresses involved would likely tell you, I had a major singular vision but I allowed them to improvise the script at times but some things needed to be included. Hell the monologue at the end of the film was a written piece but was retooled by the actor a little bit. Mostly the style I wanted to go for was similar to Black Christmas (awesome film that inspired this one) and I love films that are one character going through something horrible, alone. So I made this film! Editing the film, I made the film mostly chronologically, so I can get editing right away and if there was something that messes up, we can just go back and do it again real quick. The main thing I wanted to focus on was the music and the sounds you heard throughout the film. I wanted you to hear stuff with headphones on, but if you watched it on a tv you wouldn’t hear it. Little tricks like that weren’t planned but just was instinctual. Some moments in the film required a lot of careful color grading because of the moon shots, the transition moments were really difficult to pull off but worked out in the end. The big thing about the film in terms of color was I wanted everyone to appear sickly and wanted to make the image feel more gritty/rustic. Probably the biggest challenge was time. We only shot this one day a week at a time, so it took likely about 10-15 days to shoot the film but took months to get everyone there and get the scenes finished. Besides that, the film actually went smoothly for myself. My inspirations for this film was like I said earlier, the original Black Christmas. That film was creepy and has such an eerie atmosphere but the horror is about where is the villain? That’s what I wanted this film to emulate. You knew within the first 5 minutes the villain was stalking the main character, but you don’t see him until later. Another in terms of music was Terrifier and Halloween. I wanted horror synth music but also sometimes orchestra mixed in like the old Friday the 13th movies and of course Terrifier. Thanks again for watching the film, I’m glad you enjoyed it. 😊

I can’t wait to see it, but damn am I worried lol To your point about what other people are saying about celebrities, we’ll always have those in my opinion. They’ll just sell their “likeness,” and it will be them but in AI form, and they will profit that way instead of physically making a movie.

    Great video and thoughts on this particular subject matter! An interesting factor in terms of the Hollywood aspect of how Ai will be used is that yes it will probably be utilized in many areas such as post production work (even pre production with scriptwriting), but I remember being told something very interesting by an owner of a production company. I interviewed this owner for a class in college and I asked him what his thoughts were on Ai and if it could replace editors in the future (since I told him that I wanted to mainly do post production work) and he said that (and I’ll be paraphrasing here), “I don’t necessarily think Ai can do what humans can do in terms of using emotion to make emotional decisions within editing a scene, now it can probably do basic edits and structure things in a logical way very quickly, but I don’t necessarily see how it could ultimately replace the human aspect of editing.” Now granted, a lot of Hollywood studios may not take that into account if they go all in on using Ai and use that as a way to layoff employees to get a quick buck, but I think most people will be able to see that if we truly see a world where our movies are fully made with Ai, most will be able to distinguish what is truly human (emotional) and what is not. Now something else to take into account is that with how fast Ai technology and software is evolving, there’s also a major chance that there will be a lot regulation with how Ai is used and even programmed (take the recent Gemini Ai controversy as an example). I think a bigger problem is not only how the Ai is being used but who will be regulating and programming the software (basically what is their intention). There’s a lot to unpack with Ai and I would be here for days discussing this, but I’ll just leave it at that. Great video overall!

    • @SpencerLSimmons
      @SpencerLSimmons Před 3 měsíci

      Thanks for the information, I had heard some similar things from people about editing in particular, and I agree. Emotions do a play a huge role in editing, and most of the Ai text to video stuff like Sora has an almost bland soulless approach to its imagery. The regulation part, I am afraid people will sleep on it and not take advantage at the opportunity, however the inverse I am even more cautious of, people using this tech to get rid of the human element in filmmaking. Your last point talking about the people programming and what their intentions are, that’s what I’m interested in as the year continues. Thanks again for the information, I’m just really diving into the surface on this thing, it’s cool technology but it’s going to hurt people, indirectly or not, people are going to lose jobs, hopefully people can have a dialogue about it and discuss the reality of this tech and how it impacts the future of us as filmmakers and can come together to find a common ground to make sure people get work.

    Stuckmann himself personally said that he no longer wants to be overly critical and stopped giving ratings as he's part of the industry now trying to produce his own movies. He spoke the truth as he needs to get funding and you don't bite the hand that feeds you. It's hard to play both sides of the fence. Teachers do the same thing they don't want to give a kid a bad grade and negative review or you might hurt the kid's confidence so you give participation prize. Imagine if your kid was on the lower intellect spectrum you would not want a teacher to give the kid a low grade so Stuckmann might be onto something and we should follow his example.

It seems there's two common tropes on youtube currently: People making clickbait rage videos about pop culture and people critiquing other people's videos about pop culture. It should be about how good the acting, the storytelling, the writing and the direction is. Chris, I imagine realized his position and how talking negatively about a film to his audience can sway the box office and can hurt his chances of getting a job. @@blankname6629 the directors you mention are incredibly well-established to the point where the studios see dollar signs the second they walk into a room with an idea/screenplay. Execs are going to practically write them a blank check to do what they want to do with pretty much no resistance. Yes, those directors earned that spot but did so by starting off with passion projects of their own that hit with audiences, coupled with meeting the right people at the right time that believed in their passion, then slowly scaled up. That is not at all the same thing as a director that's gotten gigs here and there being tasked to direct a big studio superhero film that's potentially meant to fit into a larger universe. The studio execs in that scenario do not at all just let the writer and director do whatever they want - there's a ton of studio execs involved making and pressuring decisions as to what the film "should" be for a variety of business reasons and they mostly suck at it, which was precisely Stuckmann's point. He was literally using Madame Web as a perfect example of the studio system's process yet again getting things horribly wrong. MCU's Infinity Saga succeeded because they struck the right balance of presenting writers and directors with the overall vision yet letting them play in that playground. Kevin Feige was the guiding light without breathing down their neck too much. Nowadays, whether MCU or DCU or Star Wars or Sony etc, the reigns are tighter since more execs are in too frantic a hurry to mimic profit without any passion for the art. Directors (who jump on the opportunity just because their career is hungry for it) are mainly just hired guns for a studio's product and everyone ends up the worse off for it most of the time. Stuckmann's point was that that system of doing things clearly isn't working out well for *most* superhero projects post-Endgame. Tarantino and Cameron would never play in someone else's prison. Nolan was handed Batman after having done only 3 feature length films but he clearly had a pretty singular style by that point and was proven to have an understanding of the mechanics of storytelling, in an environment of superhero films that wasn't nearly as studio-controlled as it is today. If we wanna lay the blame for Madame Web at the feet of S.J. Clarkson, then I'll equally blame the Producers for picking the wrong Director...all because part of the game they intentionally play is picking someone that's gonna follow the blueprint that they (the studio) insist is best.

      I see your point, but Chris is getting a lot of hate for his actions right now, there is indeed controversy. A lot of people on CZcams and Twitter don’t like his behavior. Some people do, like yourself. I agree on a lot of people taking the angry review route as a way to get people to clicks but I feel that as a movie critic, you should be honest about the film instead of fence-sitting the elephant in the room. But to be fair, even though he may not have reviewed the film itself, the entire video was very critical of Sony and Film Studios in general that take this kind of approach to filmmaking. That's why I find some reactions to his video strange. Also, another reason why I say there isn't a controversy is that it's not bleeding out into his other videos. There are a lot of comments on the Madam Web video, and there are those making videos in response to it, but for me, if it were truly controversial, you would see it being reflected in the comment section in his follow-up videos, but I'm just not seeing that. I believe the video basically pushed the film aside because he knew the real problem was the studio not caring what was made, only that something was made to keep the rights to the property. At least, that was my takeaway from the video. @@SpencerLSimmons
