Companies don't give a hoot about turnover............they put more emphasis on recruiting and screw retention......thats why companies charge for DOT physical , drug screen and orientation meals etc........they know the drivers are most likely not to stay.............driving by the mile is a sucker's game.

Thanks for these tips. As a veteran CDL driver with plenty of interviews under the belt, I can attest that we do not get the respect and recognition because we are incorrectly assumed to be dumb and had no other recourse but to be truck drivers. It takes skills, self discipline, courage, and a strong work ethic to drive a big rig. We should be treated the same as any other professional being interviewed.

Blame insurance companies for the driver shortage. The only companies that can hire new drivers are the self insured ones. That means mega carriers that hire people at 50% then wonder why no retion. They get some experience and move up to companies that actually pay a wage you can eat on.

We already have level 1 and 2 autonomous with level 3 not far away. Level 4 can drive itself but it will still need a driver behind the wheel, the same concept is with our trains and airline airplanes. The level 5 autonomous still has a good bit till mass operations cause the current level 5 autonomous that truly dont have a driver can only drive long flat roads with good weather and the least traffic.

When the self-driving truck manufactures can figure out a way to keep that self driving truck going during winter storm with black ice in Wyoming with 40+ mile per hours winds then they will be in business. Until then truck drivers have nothing to worry about.
