Cool, you motivated me to continue my own experiments. Just right now I am planning to order leather and create travel wallet that will fit into shirt pocket and yet be able to keep two passports, cards and boarding pass. Paper prototypes works really well. Also thinking a lot about slim EDC wallet that will hold keys, spare cash, mini Victorinox, flat flashlight and some medicine. Still contemplating the best way to turn on and use flashlight without pulling it out.

Dood. It is NOT a diamond file.That is a lie repeated by the John the gadget guy that got a special visit to Victorinox in Switzerland. You suck.

These are cool, but were overpriced- maybe they have come down. It is a climber plus that lacks a can opener basically. I have been using Victorinox can openers to open packages for 40 years. Solution looking for a problem. When they added the package opener they should have used the combo can/bottle blade from the compact/bantam instead of leaving the cap lifter only on the other side. I like the file in place of the secondary knife and the plus pen and the colored art scales are nice. I'll get one if the price drops. Sydney and New York are the best looking styles imho. Can't decide. New York might edge out because yours looks great, but I would have to see in person. Bladeless for these makes sense, because it seems like a town/office tool and then a package opener vs a can opener works. If they released that, I'd get one for office/town and my huntsman would be for the woods.

I'd probably have the compact instead of the sportsman tbh, id keep the pen because the compact pen is a bit small but a good back up option

I don't have an explorer yet.but I have a champion. I like the magnifier, it very handy I use the screwdrivers.and the scissors. I a victorinox fan.

Out of these 3 i would also pick this one. But i would prefer if they made them with normal red scales orthe nylon scales for a little less money ;-) The only thing i wonder about is "resharpening" the package opener. I can and have resharpened the can opener myself. The serrated part of the package opener looks a little harder to resharpen as they are more round in the outward sense than normal serrated knifeblades that are "round in the inward part". The later one i can resharpen. (it takes a long time and effort but i can do that.)

I just put together a pocket kit in the Alpaka HUB pouch, mainly for when i am wearing basketball shorts that only have 2 pockets. I based it off an EDC kit video i saw from Jon Gadget and have a lot of the same gear in it, with some modifications. Leatherman Style PS, Ti pill case, InCharge 6-in-1 cable, TNTOR power bank, mini first aid kit, glue stick, mini Bic, zip ties, card wrapped in two kinds of tape, a couple heat shrink tubes, Narwhal mini pen and a few sheets from a Pokka pens notebook. Slimmed it down as much as possible and will be trying it out tomorrow, lol.

That fire ant may work in desperation, but I think a regular fire rod and cotton ball would be better. Use the awl surface or the wire stripper on that fire ant rod.

That iron rod is awkwardly small as well..

The reason they don't put a file on the hook is to make you buy a Compact.

Hope you are safe in Israel. I have the Explorer and use the magnifying glass for reading small print on something I might buy. My scales get scuffed up from carring it in the leather holster. I lost my previous Explorer while walking my dog. It slipped out of the velcro holster.

You are far to young to appreciate the magnifying glass, But when you pass sixty it will be invaluable for reading that small print that gets increasingly smaller as you grow older. I can guarantee that older eyes need help.

I have a Swiss Champ which has the 91mm Plus Scales [w/ Pen and Straight Pin]. Also there is a secret channel on the lower end of the scale [ w/o the Swiss Cross on it] that -- when opened up -- you can put a shorter Teeezers, so you can put the Firefly 2'' long ferrocerium stick in the old Tweezer slot. The Firefly stick has a weakness -- it must be supported from the back when striking or it will snap in half. Have not tried the Fire Ant.

I carry an 84mm Recruit. I am likely going to get a Bantam for a survival tin. They are cheaper knives on Amazon. I do like the Recruit for edc.

Yes, the Sportsman is a great SAK and one of my favorites in my collection. The nail file is a very useful and non threatening tool that I find my self using quite often for nail maintenance while I’m just sitting around killing time. And yes, I agree adding the scissors would have made this a perfect EDC SAK. The Alumnus! Too bad all the 84mm scissors are discontinued. If they them back, that would be cause for great celebration because I do like the 84mm versions. I find that the Combo tool more useful than the other two openers. I wish there was a version of the Sportsman that had the backside Phillips instead of the corkscrew.

The Camper is the same as the Hiker. Only difference is with the Hiker you get a Phillips head screw driver and with the the Camper you get the cork screw.

Fluff the tinder much more, it needs more are/volume. And while it seems natural to hold the rod still and scrape the steel against it, you should do the opposite. Hold the steel still and quickly/sharply draw the rod back against it, it will throw sparks better.

I cannot understand why Victorinox stopped putting those "Camping" logos on the camper.
