This version was released on Culture-Africa Stand Alone-1978. Joseph in interviews said he was not happy with them for releasing this LP calling it a bootleg. He later put out a different version on Cumbolo in 1979. This is the first version I ever heard and will always be my favorite

It was probably wrong of me to pose the question in the first place, as the irony was lost in translation. But It still doesn't alter the fact that "You I Love etc...." has been done to death by everyone from I.Roy to U.Roy and everyone in between. Proof if it were needed that every toaster made it up on the spot, in the confines of the studio. Today they call it freestyling, but a lot of it is as incomprehensible now as it was then... I'm as old as that sourcey git Nile Rogers, but I'm certain he's still got a better flow..... Crappers Delight.🚽😃
It went right over my head. Lost in translation somewhere. I have another one in the same theme: "room for rent, apply within". Heard that line a lot and i don't know why or what it really means. I also don't know why you have so much hatred towards Nile Rodgers haha
Gordon Bennett guv'nor, this really is a US/UK English conundrum, so it is!.... Source of the Nile, was just my tribute to the legend that commercially kicked off the whole Rap phenomenon. Rogers, along with (Sylvia) Robinson who launched the RoRo Ferry's Ship Shop of Hip Hop are already acknowledged as the true pioneers....And "You I Love and not another" is as common as "Keep on coming through the door" when it comes to a toaster's emergency playbook.....I should really have just asked who the first person to shout "Make Some Noise" was, because the last person appears to have a room to let!
As a non-US/UK person i'm quite confused, but i enjoy your eloquent english. Also, as far as i can understand, i'm in agreement with you. It's pretty easy to become a generic toaster. Or was at least. Chanting old, worn out lines over and over. I guess "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" or "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" fits well here. I'm also a bit drunk so if this doesn't make sense i apologize.

"You I love and not another, you may change but I will never". One of the most prolific lines in 70s Reggae....and it doesn't even rhyme! Did Dennis Alcapone and every other toaster of that period steal it from this song, or was it the other way round? Is this the source of the Nile, or did he just launch the hip hop good times?
They did most likely not steal it from this song. My guess is that it's older than reggae. From some 40's-50's American movie, music, book or some shit like that. I have no idea and i've pulled all this out of my ass. But in conclusion to your question: probably not.
