In these videos I share with you the work undertaken on my 10 acre block that suffered in the February 2014 fires. Post the fire the trees closest to the house (which burned down) were bull dozed over and the land cleared. Watch as I clear fallen trees, install retaining walls, fix irrigation, fix plumbing, install a septic system, build and repair access roads, fix the Dam, build a shed, make wood shelters and make lots and lots of firewood, before eventually building a house.

Super versus. 👏👏👏👍🙋
Thanks for the positive feedback. I think it’s a great comparison too, proving once and for all, bigger is better 😁👍
That looks to have dont a better and easier job than the other saw you were using. 😉👍
That’s the truth right there. Sometimes you gotta get the right tool for the job, just like when you bought the big boy splitter. Thanks for watching
As much as I love hacking away at stuff with a 2 stroke I also find that a battery powered tool is much easier to start and are much quieter. Being electric and with no drive shaft down the pole the battery one has an adjustable head angle which is handy when the hedgeclipper is in use in particular. I've also thought about 1 for many years and now my father has 1 (which I have to use as he can't) I think that it was something that I should have had a decade ago.
You ….. with a battery saw. What’s the world coming to ? I need to ask R U OK ? I’m in shock. Ha ha. Gotta say I’ve been thinking about a Mikita saw ( as I have batteries ) … but I cannot bring myself to do it. 🪓👍🤔
I tried to convince dad to get a Makita as he has the batteries but he wanted a standalone one. In the end the Bunnings XU1 got purchased and I've pruned a bit than you have there twice with the chainsaw and about 40m of hedges twice. $165 compared to about $750 for the Stihl is a fair bargain too I reckon. I've cut through up to about 4" diameter ornamental pear with no issues (and little noise).
@@Alan_Hans__ yep the stihls are very expensive and reality is if you do a bit of cutting you need a few batteries and they ain’t cheap.
Acá debería aver una máquina repicadora para ver si real efectividad con la madera realmente dura
Hi, thanks for watching. Sorry but not sure the translation worked properly.
My father grabbed a combination pole saw and hedge cutter so I could trim his garden back at the start of 2023. It was quite cheap and it's the absolute bees knees for trimming like what you did. When the parents were on the farm I used a sabre saw for trimming a number of times when a chainsaw wasn't justified but given the choice between chainsaw and ladder, chainsaw and sabre saw or a polesaw I'll now go with the pole saw every time now. I've done 2 annual prunings with it so far and the saw is still on it's original sharpen and it's actually fairly remarkable how much you can get cut out of a 2AH battery.
@@Alan_Hans__ well well, you and I think alike. Watch the next one. Polesaws……. I wished I’d bought one earlier.
Thats hard work right there.
hey joey, it sure is, I thought the same thing and the next video shows the easy way to do things
Another Down under episode of the Australian tree saw massacre... I do the same here, just not a drastic. We trim the low hangers to aquire a better view of the property from the road... But they trim-em like that down in the low lands. God cut my hair like that back when I was in my 20's... Nice lil trick on the ole gringo. Now you have it, now you don't... It's always nise to see Kanga & Roo, hoppin' about. 🦘... Well keep-on bush-wackin' and we'll see you on the next one mate... Peace...
hey gringo, I hear you, hair today..... gone tomorrow. On the next one I show you the easy way to trim trees using a new toy. Should have bought it ages ago
first
Congrats. 🥂
good workout routine
Yep, then I don’t move for a day. 🤣🤣
Seems it would have been a lot cheaper and easier to just reinforce the top of the blade
@@johnc1256 true, but I wanted the option to be able to remove the ball easily and also move the ball away from the blade so we have more angle of dangle before the trailer coupling fouls the blade. Thanks for watching and I hope this is useful for you.
That's one mulching unit mate. I might have to look into one of those fer-sher... PEACE BROTHER...
A real ripper of a unit, it takes no prisoners. No weed or long grass is safe. I just got a circular saw blade for it, going to cut down some big bushes and saplings with it. 👍👍 What could possibly go wrong ?
Hey Chris, been pretty busy as of late. I must have started waching this video 5 or 6 times in the past day or so. Looks like you've been hangin' round with the Shaman of the local tribe again. I see you've got the walkin' through walls thing perfected, now all you gotta do is work on gettin' those logs to buck themselves while you sit back and injoy a slice and a cool one. How many more vid's befor we get to see you in real time??? Stay cool mate, Peace from Cabañas Los Peñas, Rochivo Creel Chihuahua, Mexico...🌳🪓🪵🍕🍻
Hey gringo. Ha ha. I’ve been thinking about doing an auto buck 5000 video but not sure how to do it, I’ll keep thinking. I’m editing March ‘24 videos now so still 6 months behind and a lot of content to edit. Lots been happening. Stay cool.
Good axe from fiskars I have just bought the 8 pound maul let's see what it got
Yep I love the x27 and the maul. How’d you go with the maul ? It’s a real lump to throw around but some logs need it.
That’s a top effort👌 Certainly got some splitting to do 🪵🪓 Cheers for posting up 🍻🥳
loved it, some nights are just perfect and that was one of them. Plenty for the axe and splitter to attack .... next video maybe
Locust makes a mess during cutting, splitting, stacking, and delivery, but i can't get enough of the stuff and love it. 😉👍
@@DanielAtkinsFirewood hey Daniel. Is locust the real thick bark wood that you cut ?
@@TheRuralProject: it's the yellow stuff I was cutting a year ago. The really thick bark is Doug fir
Seems like deja vu. The stringy does make a mess mate (groans).
The other version got an error so got removed. I am soooo funny. Come on admit it you laughed.
It may have gotten both a laugh and a groan.
I like how your stance sets you up to hit the top of the round rather than follow through to the ground, that way if it splits unexpectedly, or you miss, you chop your leg off. I especially like how you have both of your legs in striking range together like that. Really good form.... for loosing limbs. Seriously where did all these tubers learn to swing a maul and how are any of them still alive?
@@mdocod splits unexpectedly?! You’ve obviously never split Aussie hardwood before, it doesn’t do anything unexpectedly you have to persuade it to do anything except just sit there.😁😁
At 0:41 you can see where the maul head would end up. Spoiler it is not near his legs.
Did you get a working one? I just tried mine and it was spitting oil out the back from the first tap, thought i was doing something wrong
Hey, nah, I got my money back and never tried one again. Had to fix it the hard way by removing the pins etc and cleaning it properly.
Great. This machine looks so good. How many hours do you need to change its blades? Thanks for your share.
Thanks for watching. I’ve never really kept a record of hours of use before changing knives, but I know I once chipped for about 30 hours and didn’t need to change them after that, but it really depends on your wood density. My wood is usually really dense hardwood. Thanks
The US needs swing saws like these sold here.
Thanks for watching. They are a great tool for the right wood. This is a cheap version, the more commercial versions cut even faster.
Nice cutting. I like my 461s both with 28 and 32-inch bars
Thanks Daniel. Do you find that the bigger bar bogs down a bit in hard wood ?
Bad form
@@Velasquezfishing got any tips ?
id reccomend keeping a 20inch bar on the 462. for ware sakes on the clutches and bearings. ive been recommended to not use 25inch bar on mine. you will find it should stop bogging down aswell.. once 462 is ported tho. they run 25inch bar fine. but also still puts alot of load stress on everything. cheers im also fellow aussie. cheers
@@azah57 hey thanks for watching and advise. Have you ported your 462 ? Did you do it yourself?
The protection gets put on when the wood gets ugly?
you got it... it goes on part way through, I was too keen to get into the "good stuff"
Beaut log👌 Might give my saws a good clean & once over today before the wood season starts in a couple of weeks 👌
I hope its a cracking day for you, trailer load of stringy perhaps?? wait till you see the next video, more wood mud than wood, but it burned this winter, I sell the nicer stuff and burn the crap myself, the only issue is more ash than usual. going back the private property in 2 weeks, coming home with 7 cubes in rounds hopefully, that's our tactic, splitting and stacking 6 cubes in the trailer like last time was too hard, I was aching for days 😁
That would make a wicked cool bowl. You know anyone who does layth work? Rod @firewood midwest does some killer stuff. STAY COOL MATE...PEACE FROM CABAÑAS LOS PEÑAS ROCHIVO CREEL CHIHUAHUA MEXICO...
hey gringo, that wood is long gone to ash heaven 😁. Strange you mention Rod @FirewoodMidWest, I have a challenge for him in my next video, coming soon
Too bucking easy when they're off the ground like that. That saw works and sounds nice🎉
Ha ha. 🤣 I know, that excavator has spoiled me. I was cutting at a private property last weekend, couldn’t get any easier, I could drive up to the log on the ground, I kept thinking 🤔, if I had my CAT id lift this log and buck straight into the trailer……. I’m going soft. 👍🪓
Is the oiler on a stock standard 462 powerful enough to lubricate a 32inch bar😅 ??? Kindly advise since I'm considering buying that saw regards Gunter Looks like she's ripping through that mighty old eucalypt 😊 ! Gosh we got some hard wood here in Australia! 🙁😓
hi Gunter, I have the oiler turned up full and haven't noticed any lack of oil issues when bucking or felling, but when i used the 462 on the Alaskan mill I had to keep adding oil to the bar tip as I was going as the bar was getting real hot and lacked lubrication, so with that info id say its at the upper limit of the oil pump with this 36" bar. I think you'll be fine for normal use.
@@TheRuralProject thank u mate,much appreciated !😊
Fair chance like, don't run a blunt chain on the 362 and call it a comparison.
It might not look like it but the 362 chain was sharp. Fresh sharpen. It was a fair test.
Wow. Ive got the FS 131 with the bike handles that I cut brush and do mountain bike trail maintenance with.
The FS450 is an oldy but it’s still powerfull, I’d love to get one if the newer land clearing saws but they are a lot of $$. This mulching head is great too, smashes everything to pieces. Thanks for watching.
Have you seen Csabi tools. czcams.com/video/O_pwRF-Hlcw/video.htmlsi=wJzc34Q1DWfYiKi0 He has the 561 ….. now that is a beast of a machine.
Not bad, I've destroyed the cheap ones doing the same. I get back to living in the country I'll buy one.
This one has taken a beating and a few poorly placed shots, the only damage is the shaft protector has started to split. I’m really impressed with it.
Too be fair there is a reason they made a special axe head called the taz/tanzanian pattern specifically for Australia and similar areas😂
Hi, thanks for watching the struggle. 😁 Isn’t a Tasmanian pattern axe 🪓 used for felling not splitting ?
Suspending the logs in the air with the excavator is a great idea, very efficient👍🏻
Hi, thanks for watching. It’s a bit slower when I’m doing it alone, when I have help it’s super quick, saves the back though and I never hit the dirt with my chain. 👍

Honest opinion mate?? What's the vibration like threw ya hand? What's the rebound like? An also how do you find swinging it after 20 blocks?
hi, i've no issues with vibration, i think these are much better than a couple of cheap hardware mauls I have (I don’t have another expensive maul to compare it to ) Bounce back, i get less with this big lump than my cheaper / lighter ones. Swinging it kills me, its hard work, swinging the x27 or x36 is enjoyable, this lump is too much for me to use a long time.
@TheRuralProject thanks for the honest feed back mate. I'm looking into to them abit more today at the shops. Much obliged mate.

Why us a 39" bar for that Use it for big logs
just for laughs and because it was on the saw for bigger logs that i'd already cut, and I couldn't be bothered to swap it out. I get a huge variety of log sizes, I usually swap saws to suit the logs but thought bugger it.
Thank you very much man. I'm having trouble with mine. The trigger doesn't move. I'm gonna try what you did with the cable inside the throttle body.
fingers crossed I hope it works for you. Good luck.
So i know people do eat Kangaroo, Do you?
hey Joey, yeh we do. I don't hunt kangaroos, you get in trouble for that but they sell it in the shops, its a very lean meat, as you'd imagine there's no fat on these hoppers.
Nice easy fix, the tanks are huge.
@@MySliceOfHeavenoutdoors these 2 are the smaller ones, I have another video cleaning of an oval tank, that’s a big tank. When I look into them when full, the waters so clear I want to jump in 😀😀
Just got one today. Running the 462, 660 and an 880 but think the 661 is much needed
not sure what happened to my reply, i typed and it disappeared, anyway cool selection of saws, i hope you enjoy the 661, its a great saw. I'll do some milling with it soon and give it a test. How's the 880 ? I've never used one ..... but I know I need one .... honest 😀
@@TheRuralProject got a clone g880 as i figured i would barely use it. Turns out i barely use it haha. But runs a 42in bar alot easier than my 660 thats for sure. Plus $3500 for the ms881 vs $950 for a G880 seemed like a good idea. Only need it on the yellowbox once it gets over 900mm diameter
I had a clone 660, love the price but I got one of the lemons, had so much trouble with it, cylinder kept coming loose from body, torqued bolts, red loctite, nothing stopped it. I learned a lot about rebuilding chainsaws but eventually gave up on it.
@@TheRuralProject thats unfortunate, they can be great saws. Once your into the thick of it in Gippsland you need the real deal
OK so this was 3 months ago. Hows the leak holding? Im in here as I have the same problem. And have in the past used the same fixes. Mr Crystals. Is there not perhaps a mesh membrane one could use as well. As cracking is usually aided by water getting into the reinforcement mesh within the concrete. And expanding the concrete as it rusts. Hope you had a permanent fix
@@craigbuchan316 hi, so far so good. The tanks been full for a long while, I kept checking and didn’t see any issues, I’ve stopped looking now. I’m confident it’s fixed.
@@TheRuralProject Sweet. Thanks for the quick reply.
still at it I see, lots of wood.
It never ends. Well it does, I’m almost out of wood and looking at more land….. then it’ll start again. 😁
Life is luck really. I picked one of these up on a facebook marketplace group 2 weeks ago for 40 bucks au. Wasn't running. Needed a new fuel line as the existing had rotted and snapped. Had one in the toolbox and changed the plug for good measure. Compression is stunning & she took 5-6 pulls to run. Used for only 30 mins so far but am happy for now. I have 5 all up. This, honda, stihl, blah, blah, blah... With a little tweaking on every brand they run fine. I've found the factory never gets it right. Tighten everything and adjust the idol and you'll be golden.
@@greenhouse3505 absolute gold. Bargain. Best of luck with it. You expect a bit of work on a bargain, sounds like you got a great deal.
@@TheRuralProject Cheers mate. He said his local quoted him $120 over the phone to fix it and a service. I honestly didn't think he'd take my offer but I guess he wasn't the handy type. Although the shop were definitely having a laugh.
