경복궁을 좋아하는 사람인데요, 외국인들에게 도움이 되었으면 하는 마음에 댓글 남겨봅니다. 경복궁 궁벽 사이의 일부 문들이 작은 것은 고개를 숙이도록 설계된 것이라고 해요. 항상 겸손하라는 의미로 문을 좀 작게 설계했다고 들은 바가 있어요. 경복궁은 1990년대 말 부터 2030년대 까지 일본에 의해 파괴된 곳을 계획에 따라 몇 차례에 걸쳐 국립문화유산청 등에서 수리 및 복원 중에 있다고 합니다. 뜻밖에도 경복궁은 중국의 자금성보다 약 10년 정도 먼저 건죽되었어요. 크기가 작다고 여기는 분들도 있는데, 약 433,000m2 넓이를 가지고 있어요. 중국 자금성의 80% 넓이에 해당하니 결코 작다고 할 수 없겠죠. 1395년 처음 건축되었을 때는 약 390칸 정도의 규모였는데, 임진왜란 이후 폐허로 남아 있다가 1865년 고종 황제의 아버지 흥선대원군에 의해 7,225칸 규모로 매우 크게 중건되었으니, 역시 자금성의 9,000여 칸에 대비해 작은 궁궐이 아님을 알 수 있습니다. 남아있는 문제는 삼청동으로 들어가는 쪽에 홀로 섬처럼 남아있는 '동십자각'과 궁벽을 다시 연결해야 하는 것과 경복궁역이 있는 쪽에 새롭게 '서십자각'을 복원하고 역시 궁벽을 연결해야 한다는 것입니다. 그외 유교 이념과 다른 건축양식인 경복궁 동북쪽에 있는 민속박물관 역시 이관해야 할 것으로 보입니다. 또한 궁의 서쪽에 위치한 고궁박물관 역시 시간을 두고 이전하여 궁의 옛 모습을 완벽히 복원해야 할 것으로 보여요. 글이 많이 길었네요. 특히 외국분들에게 도움이 되었으면 합니다. : )

경복궁엔 자금성이나 일본 오사카성처럼 높은 성벽이나 해자가 없고 궁궐이 아주 으리으리하진 않지만 그렇다고 작은 것은 아니며 소박하면서도 아주 품위있고 우아할 뿐만 아니라 주변 경관과 잘 어울어져 외국인들에게 뭐라 형언할 수 없는 이국적인 감동을 준다고 합니다.

경복궁의 건물 배치는 임금이 국정의 컨트롤타워가 되고 그 임금과 신하들이 부지런히 백성을 위해 일해 그 덕이 온 백성을 편안하고 행복하게 하라는 조선의 민본주의 건국이념을 형상화하고 있습니다. 경복궁이란 말 자체가 이 나라에 영원토록 큰 복이 있고 그 복으로 백성들이 평안과 행복을 누리라는 뜻이고 경복궁 근정전의 '근정'은 그 누구보다도 임금이 직접 백성을 위해 부지런히 일하는 모범을 보인다는 뜻입니다.
