Someone picked up a board for my kid off the side of the road, it looks like it was mounted with screws. Can we repair those also?
I haven't seen the damage but you should be able to repair the board.
A bit of Aussie spit n polish 😂
I have one on the point of the surfboard that’s 1000 times worse I’m hoping this will work
Good luck
@@Nathanwbranch thank you
great video
So many views
Yeah, they just slowly add up over time.
🤟
Hi, sorry mate I don't have this doc. anymore. You might be able to print out a screenshot or something?
Is that Wave Progress PDF still available?
Hey Nathan i have my dad's surfbord it is full of holes I think it has about 3 holes. Where can i get the stuff from like cloth, Resin etc
Try asking a local surfboard shaper
Not sure if we have a surfboard Shaper in Toowoomba Queensland Australia
@@chrisacworth4729 Another option would be to contact someone who sells car paint and products or does boat repairs. Some of them will sell fibre glass products.
You didn't mention what grade of spit you used, any tips?
You didn’t get the name “smokin” Joe for no reason. As Jerry would’ve said it best, SON! Great pickin Joe!
The Spit ding repair
How long does it take for it to dry before scraping it off
I normally go by feel. It needs to be firm but not too hard. Not too soft either or you will tear chunks out of the bit you want to keep. It's something you have to do a few times to learn when the correct time to do it is.
Hello, great video thanks! I have two questions... first, qcell is not available where I am... do you think it’s ok just to use resin to fill in or make it myself (grind foam?) or some substitute? 2. Is it ok to use epoxy to repair a poly board? Cheers!
Hi, I have used resin to fill in small holes before. It works ok but you need to spend more time sanding, plus it is heavier. If you have a big hole you can try wedging a piece of surfboard foam into the hole, sanding it to match the shape of your board and then doing the fibreglass over the top. I can't say if it's ok to use epoxy to on a Polly board. I haven't done it before. Sorry.
I have everything, except the spit where can I buy that?
i just got a beat up board for cheap and am going to use this video to fill in the nose and tail holes, you got yourself a new subscriber!
Exactly what I needed, thanks man!
Very cool 😎 Great work.?
Ok now... how to fix a hole in my life?
I know it's late, but nobody responded to you: How to fix up the hole in your life---find an old, beat up board; buy it and follow the video instructions for any ding repairs; then go surf repaired board. Hole in life filled. You are very welcome.
@@jameslangridge1674 thanks so much dude i was waiting for that answer now lets go surf the life
Thanks for video. I am wondering if I was to paint this to match the board colour. At what point would you have painted this?
Hi Paul, If I was to paint over a repair I would do it after I've finished. If your surface is too glossy or smooth the paint might not stick properly.
Thank you very much for posting. This is extremely helpful. Can you clarify the purpose of adding the stryene wax? To my knowledge the Q-cell is used to thicken the resin, so why would you want to add strene wax as a thinning agent?
Hi Andrew, Adding wax and styrene will make the resin thinner but it will also make it a lot easier to sand because of the wax.
If you gonna try fix your board at home, don’t forgot the spit, is very important part of the process!
what should i use if i dont have Q cel? is there any i could use?
You could fill it resin but it will be heavier and harder to sand through.
@@Nathanwbranch tnx man
thank you for the vid Nathan. I imagine you could have put a bit of red into the resin mix?
Or just Put a sticker over it😉
Nice tutorial mate, personally i like to take off the damaged fiber glass to have a fully exposed foam then fill it up with pasty resin and cloth.
I'll have to try that technique some time.
great vid, did not see the spit coming haha 👍😂
Nice video, thanks. Any reason not to add some red tint for the repair - better for the demo vid?
Yes, I agree it would have looked better in the video. I didn't add colour because I can never get it to match the original.
Nice tutorial! Easy to follow steps through the simple yet clear editing steps. Where abouts are you based and do you repairs regularly?
Hi Robby, thanks for the comment. I'm based in Port Macquarie and I pretty much only do repairs on my own boards at the moment
Nathan Branch no way! Funnily enough I damaged my board at Crescent Head just last week thanks to some heavy gusts of wind. That’s fair enough. You’re doing a great job. I hope to learn how to do repairs of my own eventually
what happend to the 2nd video?
Can you give a list of all of the types of resin, qcel, hardener, and wax/styrene you used please?
Hi Alyssa. I just added the materials to the video description.
Nathan Branch thanks so much!!
Amazing you can hardly see the repair 🤪🤣🤣
Aboriginals today get MORE benefits and rights than every other race in Australia. That is not a good thing. All Australians must have EQUAL rights to all land in Australia irrespective of race/ethnicity. Any assistance given and paid for by tax payers should only be on the basis of need, not race. Anything else is wrong, unfair and indeed racist.
ignorant
@@michellesprigg3377 Don't worry. Ignorance can be remedied by learning to be colour blind and by respecting and treating other races as you would those of your own race. People should learn how not to be a racist. Racism is hateful and hurts others
bit of spit should do the trick
Thanks for the video! Nice tutorial🤘
Do u use the same steps when repairing a hole that goes through the glass?
I'll rip out any loose bit's of glass if need and do the same steps
I really wouldn't know better young musician at this moment when we talk about acoustic guitar...He is so advanced and he made such progress in few years that he blows my mind every time I hear him, I just enjoy his music..he is so great, I am big fan.
First of all thank you very much for the video The content is excellent and simple I have a small request You can briefly write down all the products needed for repair I want to buy everything and start the repairs thanks alot
Hi, sorry for the slow reply. have a look at these 2 links. These are pretty much all the material used plus sanding equipment. surfblanksaustralia.com/collections/repair-kit/products/repair-kit surfblanksaustralia.com/collections/surfboard-starter-kits/products/up-to-6-4-shortboard-kit2013-04-30-00-02-00 There are a few extre items described that you won't need for doing repairs, like the Calipers and stringer plane.
What's the cost on the material?
Hi Nathan . Great video and editing . It looks like you have all the tools and a decent space for repairs . Those are the two biggest hurdles for most people. Here are a cpl quick notes to make your repairs come out perfect with less effort. Preface - cut the cloth so it has rounded edges , just fold it in half and cut away the jagged corners . Oval is good in this case. No need for those right angle edges you had there . The cloth lays flatter and is easier to feather in that way. 1. Get popsicle sticks or tongue depressors at the dollar store for mixing and other uses- 2. When mixing q cell , add a bit of cab o sil (also called thik-sil) to the mix . 4-1 q cell to cab o sil ratio . This thickens up the mix so it won't run / drip . Then when you fill the hole , before it kicks , use the tongue depressor to squeegee off excess. Take your time and get it nice and smooth (This way you don't have to tape off prior or use the metal scraper to remove it when it's kicked. When it's kicked a few swipes with 80 grit and it's smooth/flush. Too easy. 3. When laminating , what you did with the paintbrush is fine, but prior to taking it outside to kick , use a squeegee (an old credit card or something similar) to remove excess resin. Pull from the middle to the outside and wipe away excess and repeat . The lam coat should show the weave , which then gets filled in by hot coating. After it kicks , sand just the edges of the cloth . (Rounded edges if you cut them out properly) Sand them flush . Now when you hotcoat (you just need a thin coat) there will be less material to sand . You can sand with 150, then 220 and you're done. All in all , you are good at repairing boards. I don't mean to split hairs or tell you what to do. I just wanted to give you a few pointers so your repairs come out nicer with less effort . All good . Have fun
Thanks mate. Sorry, I must have missed this message. Those tips will really help.
What resin is used?
Is it epoxy resin?
No.
Nathan Branch what resin is it then?
@@kish4089 Hi, It's UV polyester laminating resin. surfblanksaustralia.com/collections/surfblanks-polyester-resin-products/products/20-4kg-pail-of-uv-lamintaing-resin?variant=10384030859307

Tommy Lawrance u can use some mushed up foam it works as well
Why on earth are there ANY thumbs down at all?? Melody , technique, feel - the real deal!

I brought everything from surfblanksaustralia.com Polyester resin (you need to add hardeer if adding microballons - surfblanksaustralia.com/collections/ultra-violet-polyester-resin microballons - surfblanksaustralia.com/collections/surfboard-glassing-products/products/500gm-bag-of-micro-balloons-qcell wax and styrene - surfblanksaustralia.com/collections/wax-5-styrene 4oz cloth - surfblanksaustralia.com/collections/fibreglass-cloth Hardener - surfblanksaustralia.com/collections/m-e-k-p-resin-hardener I think that's it. Good luck.
What is the filler products
The white powder is Q-cell also called micro balloons. I'm pretty sure it's just foam that's been ground up into a powder. Mix it into your resin to make it as thick then add your hardener.
Great tutorial so funny when he spits on the board so Oka.
I just found your video series. Sad I am so late to the game. Great videos. I just wish there were more of them.
Thanks. I was planning to produce more but didn't have the resources at the time to keep pumping out videos
I would of tinted the filler to try and match the boards color. Good video though.
Because of her we can
Was gonna get a new board but I’m glad I stumbled upon your vid thanks bro
