    Never knew that Looking for a Lady and To the Morning were such early songs of his. So glad I found this recording! What a treat to hear his younger voice. He has always been a favorite songwriter of mine!

    Found this recoding in a very haphazard manner, but what a treat. I was living in Jackson during my teenage years and the shows that came to MS in those days were a dream list. I was not at this one because I was only 12 yo, but in the coming years would be following most of the acts that came to Jackson back in those days. Thanks Beebop productions, WZZQ etc, it was a grand time!!

    I cannot believe I found this after all this time. If you listen closely between sets, you will not hear a lot of extraneous noise from the audience. We were one of the most respectful audiences, very quiet while he was playing and singing. We were all totally enthralled. He was so engaging, and we seemed in awe to have him performing in Jackson. I do not remember how I managed to get tickets, but this concert is one of the best memories of my youth.

    I moved to Jackson in the fall of 1973 as a freshman at Belhaven College ( now Belhaven University) . I was astonished at the quality of WZZQ's DJs and programming. They introduced me to an enormous range of music that had never played on any radio station in my home town of Birmingham. What an amazing time to be alive and exposed to music. I still have my Brian Augur album "Straight Ahead" which I first heard on WZZQ in 1974. Somewhere I have cassette tapes I made of some of the music I heard on that wonderful station.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting. I was there. We had a fantastic radio station in Jackson back then. They would play entire album sides and go for an hour with no ads or talking. One of the DJs discovered Fogelberg's first album - Home Free - and they started playing it. Everyone in Jackson loved his music. This was probably five years before he became famous nationwide. Funny thing - we didn't know that he wasn't big outside of Jackson.

    We need some of these early-Dan live shows cleaned up (the audio, not the patter) and put out on CD. Some alternate takes and demos would be nice too! With all due respect, Dan's choice of songs on the live recordings released during his lifetime was very hit-and-miss.

    I don't think this was the first concert he played in Jackson, it had to be one of the later ones. I was there at the first one on row 6. I still have my ticket stub. He ended the concert with a new yet to be released song called "There's a place in the world for a Gambler". This one ended with "The River". If any of you guys recall Micheal G. Brown opened the original show. Do you remember his piano falling down on him and scaring the crap out of us. What a great night that was. I remember WZZQ pushing his Home Free album and the whole town falling in love with it. We drove from South Jackson to the Jackson Mall to buy tickets and managed to get some before the show sold out. A few years before he passed my wife and I managed to see him perform at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi. Before the show we actually sat next to him in the buffet and I got to say hello. It was also a great show, one I lucky to see as I think it was about his last tour. What a loss for all of us.

    It was likely that his voice was giving out in this concert due to tonsillitis and that is why he could only perform one show. He had them taken out at some time in the 70's which cost him much of his range. He also had to learn to sing with his new pipes! I think he did a great job with his new voice.

    • @x22steve
      @x22steve Před 8 lety

      +Marcia Rutter I don't think so. I was there and I'm pretty sure this was 1973. He was unknown outside of Jackson, MS. We had a great radio station then that played his music, whole sides at a time, and Jackson came to love him. We didn't know he wasn't famous outside of Jackson.

    • @mkrutter128
      @mkrutter128 Před 8 lety

      He had his tonsils taken out in 1980 according to the booklet that is sold with his 4 CD Portrait package. I think you are right about the year.
