How vinyl replacement windows (might) look different on the outside of your house

Vinyl Siding Maintenance
zhlédnutí 611Před 5 měsíci
The vinyl siding on your house is *almost* maintenance free, but there are a few things you need to look out for, check on, and attend to every so often. This includes cleaning algae, mildew, or moss of the side of your house if you have a shady (or northern) side that doesn't dry quickly in the sun. This is primarily a cosmetic concern; but while you are cleaning, it's always a good idea to ch...

    I am sorry you are not liking your new windows I have never heard of Vector windows (there are literally 100s of window manufacturers!) but they should definitely be draining. The rough edges are typical of many vinyl windows as that edge is tough to get smooth. Provia offers fine line which is a different process making those edges look more like mitered corners. ProVia patented the technology so they are the only ones offering it. That doesn’t help you now, I know. Can you reach out to the installer or the window company directly to make sure they are properly draining?

    I wish I would've seen this BEFORE I had replacement windows put in recently. I don't like how they look like on the edges outside. Awfully rough around the edges of the sill and the sills fill with water even though there are holes for wzter to drain. It doesn't. They are Vector windows and I hate them.

    Why would you flash the bottom of the window? Shouldn’t you allow any water that gets back there a way to get out from the bottom?

    Very informative. I'm on the gulf coast and will be installing my impact glass replacement windows the same way. I think in a heavy wind load situation the nailing flange is a better install.

    Good, like the dadoing of the trim to let it sit flush nice detail. Also the use of pvc trim. I'd still nail it in and either fill the holes with filler or caulk.. bit thats me. I would not use silicone around the exposed areas of trim due to paint products not adhering to silicone. Id use a quality paintable caulking like Big Streach or Shermax.

    • @12pennyexteriors
      @12pennyexteriors Před 3 měsíci

      When installing Pella windows, they like us to use their brand of exterior caulking. It is similar to OSI. We stay away from straight latex caulking on the exterior and usually stay away from straight silicone because of the paint issue. Big Stretch is great and we use it a lot on the interior or if we are summer install. We do find Big Stretch performs well once it has a chance to cure for a few weeks. Nailing vs screwing: We screw the exterior trim because we have more adjustment in getting a flush finish and we can cap the screw heads. Cortex makes screws for all kinds of PVC trim. More pricey but worth it!

    Hello - nice work! I'm very interested in ordering those pre-assembled interior tirm frames - how do I go about doing this? Can these interiror tims be built myself from assembly instructions or a pattern? Thanks!

    • @12pennyexteriors
      @12pennyexteriors Před 3 měsíci

      It depends on the manufacturer. In this job, we made all of our own interior trim because the customer had custom interior trim that had to be matched. We always "pre-fab" interior trim as it makes it much easier to install. Many window manufacturer's make their own interior trim and some will just do extension jambs. ProVia has beautiful interior trim and they will paint it or stain it pretty much any color you want.

    • @12pennyexteriors
      @12pennyexteriors Před 8 měsíci

      The Alside Mezzo window is a nice window. My issues with Alside are more professional based than product based but, as a Window Depot Dealer, Alside is one of our preferred vendors. What I tend to look at in a window manufacturer are 1) Diversity of products so I can offer customers more options; 2) Warranty on the glass; 3) Customer Service. Professionally, my customer service experience with ProVia dwarfs Alside and other manufacturers by A LOT. I have also had great customer service from Interstate Window, but I don't want to get off on a tangent. The Climatex Prime glass package is a triple pane product so, if you are in the NorthEast, this is a great option. And a U value of 0.19 is also great. Just know that these, as with most triple pane windows, appear to be a bit darker, hence the low U Value. The SHGC is 0.21 but that is typical of a super energy efficient window. Also, be careful of the U Values you get from a brochure. Make sure you get U Values for the windows you are actually buying. Hope this helps!

    Have you heard of Alpen windows? If so what is your opinion? I live in climate zone 4 in Maryland and looking to build very energy efficient, comfortable, quiet, near net zero home.

    • @12pennyexteriors
      @12pennyexteriors Před 10 měsíci

      ProVia tells us they source their sheet glass from a few different suppliers, so they are unable to give us a specific source. They do insulate all IG (insulated glass) units in-house at ProVia, though, meaning they put the Argon and Krypton gases between the panes themselves.
