Invasive species in the Southeastern US.
Red Sesbania or Rattlesnake bush is a Beautiful flowering shrub that grows along the shoreline of Lake Murray in South Carolina and other southeastern lakes and states. Unfortunately its beauty stops there because it is an invasive species that is taking over and pushing out our native species of plants. So if you see this growing in your area be sure to take it up and take it out and throw it in the trash in a bag or burn it. No it is called red and it’s name to me it appears more of a bright orange flower. The leaves look like a Mimosa tree, however it doesn’t grow as large as a Mimosa. They grows about about 4 feet tall on my shoreline and they spread 3 to 4 feet wide as well. They have lots of seed pods and reseed quite aggressively. I find them very hard to dig up out of the ground and they certainly don’t pull up easily. So if I can’t pull the whole shrub out I try to cut off all of the branches that have seed pods on them and throw them in the trash so that they can’t reseed.

Online, is not the best value, but if you can't find them any where else it would be a good way. They are bulbs, so they are typically bought in bulb form or container. Hey Angela. I am also 8b extremely hot summers. The leaves in the traditional Lily of the Nile don’t really die back much. Just a few leaves in the bottom turn yellow during the winter for me here. Of course if we had a really cold snap they might die back a little. I noticed some of my varieties die back a little more. “Twister” died back more but they are currently smaller plants than the others. I just love them all! Thanks for the comment.
