I've never considered asking "why is Vite everywhere?" the answer seems so simple and obvious... 'cus it's waaaaaaay better than WebPack! ;)

Sometime around 13:00 ish, Ajana's talking about The Recurse Centre and she just drops in "he wrote Eloquent JavaScript"... Those 2 words took me down a wonderful little rabbit hole. First of all, I think I'm a bit late for Eloquent JavaScript, I'll still give it a read but it looks like it might be the sort of book I needed to read about 10-20 years ago... But, if you're in that place now, it looks like a fabulous book! But then... Eloquent JavaScript took me off to "Write code that is easy to delete, not easy to extend" on "Programming is Terrible"... and this is wonderful too - it takes one of my favourite rants and expresses it far more eloquently that I could ever manage. More gold-dust! ... Anyway... let's get back to Anjana!

Absolutely so true, I guess for most of us the best PR is the most similar to the PR we would be submitting if we were tackling the issue ourselves. This how we subconsciously determine whether our code is in good hands 😅 I just love seeing a PR that is even better than what I would do for my own open source projects, it doesn't happen too frequently but when it does it's like magic 💫

so so true - alignment is so important 🙏 there are so many ways of implementing the same feature, but so much time is wasted by arguing about it... Healthy discussions are fine this is how we find better solutions but things move along a lot smother with the contributors that get you :)

32:00 When I want to contribute something to a project that is highly used I always reach out to a maintainer first via an appropriate channel. If I don't get buy in from them then I simply don't waste my time or theirs contributing. A maintainer that doesn't get back to you at all, is a pretty clear indication that your efforts will likely not be considered. Nothing wrong with that at all, contributors need a bit of thick skin around this stuff.

still using webpack, vite is not that flexible for my use case

I think selling Dagger as a replacement for (end-to-end) CI/CD pipelines is a bit of abuse. However, Dagger is awesome as a CI/CD *task runner* - but still controlled by an orchestrator.

We moved from create-react-app to vite +react+typescript and it’s just awesome 🫡
