At the time this was set, presumably the 1930s, the UK was in the thick of a horrific economic depression that forced millions of Brits out of work into truly abject, miserable poverty. Men were forced to tramp the streets day by day hoping to be taken on by an employer in low-paid work. Yet the Wooster set want for nothing despite never lifting a finger to support themselves.
