Hi, The samples we made during this research are made out of ABS, PEI and Polycarbonate. Is this the answer you are looking for?

Hi Bob! This material is a thermoplastic composite. I think you a referring to a concrete based material? With thermoplastic composites we do not experience any cracking.

Nice toolpath. How do you handle gravity of pellets affecting the flow rate? What would happen on a 90 degree overhang? The tool would rotate to 90 degrees? How to avoid collisions?
whats the difference between vertical, 45deg, horizontal AM?
All strategies allow for different shapes and sizes. With 45 degree printing we can print shapes that are fully closed without using a support structure. A hollow cube for instance. With vertical printing we can pretty much do the same as horizontal printing, however the parts can be much larger. Your Z-axis is now the length of your machine. So you won’t need a machine of several meters in height to print very tall parts.

This is actually FGF, which is a very suitable technology to print molds for e.g. aerospace :)

Surface finish is normally considered very important with CNC milling, and there's not much to go by in a video like this. Still impressive though!
Next time we will make sure to include a detailed picture of the surface finish!

Hi, is that for a Plug or a mold ? Is it possible to build Composite pieces directly from the machined surface ? If yes how many piece can you get out from a mold like this ? Is it possible to cure prepregs into it ? What TG and CTE can you expect ? And lastly what's the average cost of such a system ?
Hi @jean-pierrei, This actually is a mold which can directly be used for several composite manufacturing techniques. Autoclave, vacuum, hand-layup, etc. Depending on the materials used and the complexity of the part. But with autoclave tooling you can get several hundred parts from 1 mold. I'm co-running a small company and I will probably not have a sufficient budget to buy all the equipment I would need right now but this is a brilliant idea that would definitely boost my business through another level. I will reach to you after I relocate my workshop for the peripherals and a S25 extruder to be accommodate with a 2nd hand robot on tracks. My use would be to machine plugs and molds of at least 5 m x 1m x 1m parts. ( For rowing boats up to 13m ) Cordially,
