Bridging the Transition Gap from Service to Academia
Nick Drake, the director of military and veteran services at North Carolina State University, and Kevin Rumley, program director at the Buncombe County Veterans Treatment Court, share valuable perspectives on the challenges of transitioning from the military to higher education. Nick's journey from the army reserves to academia has equipped him with the knowledge and experience to guide military students through the academic landscape. He emphasizes the importance of providing support and services tailored to the unique needs of military students, from pre-service decision-making to career placement. Kevin, a Marine veteran who overcame injury in combat and addiction to pursue higher education, stresses the significance of mentorship and community for veterans navigating the cultural differences of academic life. Their insights underscore the need for universities to invest in resources and programs that support military students in their transition to higher education.

    This guy if a paid bad actor. He is moving the population to a life long pharma synthetic compound. This type of doctor causes humans to run to street drugs thanks to DEA fears not care. The system is very broken, shut down the AMA and reopen the over 300 medical schools they closed in the last 60 years. We currently only have drug company doctors a profesion that is much more than patients.

    Stop calling being a dope fiend a disorder cuz its not.Nobody is born with it so its not a disorder.This is all about money cuz when a hospital treats a dope fiend,they get paid more by treating a fake disorder.I just had my 11th ankle surgery.Over the yrs i aquired a opioid dependancy.That was not from a disorder.It was from me being stupid and nothing else.I have no disorder,i had a pain pill addiction

    Are there any Health Risks to long term Prescribing of Buprenorphine?

    • @GovInst
      @GovInst Před 4 měsíci

      Given the lethality of the current drug market with its many adulterants including fentanyl and fentanyl analogues, for the vast majority of individuals, the benefit of reducing the chance of fatal overdose far outweighs the medical side effects. However, as a partial opioid agonist, buprenorphine does have the expected side effects, most of which do not pose problems for continued use. Additionally, there are safety concerns including interactions with other drug classes that need to be considered. For information about safety including interactions with other drug classes, see Tables 3 and 4 from this 2018 American Family Physician article: www.aafp.org/pubs/afp/issues/2018/0301/p313.html

    Had to go the Methadone route with today's Fentanyl. Fell off the subs after I was addicted to Oxy/Heroin and couldn't get back on them when everything changed to Fentanyl. It still took about 10 days of the Methadone everyday to start mitigating the withdrawals I was getting from Fent.

    Just remember, very few Chronic Pain Patients are invited to these webinars. Our lived experience is not important. Yet we are ruled by laws these people come up with. Most laws are harmful to us. We would be better off if we were addicts. There are rehabs, support groups, counsellors snd suicide watch. We have none of that. We have no rights, no say in our treatment. We do not abuse our medications on the whole. We just want what opiates give us...pain relief. These people regard us with suspicion, bully us, threaten us. We feel like criminals despite doing nothing wrong. I have been on opiates for 20 plus years. No side effects. I live a small life. The tone of this webinar was dismissive, patronising and not suitable for a 'little bit of trivia'. These people havent a clue.Or they lie.

    Another big myth is that buprenorphine is for the treatment of addiction. I have severe dextroscoliosis that caught up with me around the age of 70. It is with me for life now. The current climate about prescribing opiates left my pain insufficiently treated. I was never addicted to traditional opiates and have always been able to taper myself off short term pain prescriptions. Buprenorphine has managed my pain enough to get me back up out of my chair again. However, the patch is very expensive and causes severe skin irritation. I still have the rigid rules controlling the dispensation of my prescription. I can't imagine buprenorphine being abused since there is no high. I hate the stigma and the fact that I am treated as a potential criminal for merely wanting to not live in constant pain.

    Addiction most of the time is the consequence to a mental problem. You need an addiction or a “crutch” to be able to cope in life with a lot of mental problems and traumas that you’ve been carrying most of your life. Rejection, not finding or feeling love, traumas, fears, etc the list is endless! What they should do instead of giving them a new needle is to get to the root of the cause. Most people need to do therapy (some may need years of therapy) to be able to really heal. Don’t treat the consequence, treat the cause! Get them access to pro bono therapist, free therapy groups, access to self help books, self help videos, etc there are a lot of ways to help people. Needle exchange programs are not the answer. czcams.com/video/IppZrKslVVc/video.htmlfeature=shared Apparently, HIV, hepatitis B, C, and other diseases, etc, are more expensive for the government because they’re lifetime treatments. So by creating Harm Reduction or Needle exchange facilities save money to the taxpayers. They don’t care about the addicts, they just care about the money. Do some research, a dollar invested in syringe exchange programs saves at least $6 in avoided costs associated with HIV alone.

    Not even going to bother watching because I am treated like a junkie for using opiates for pain, never get a high and know the opioid crisis is a construct by corrupt doctors using rat studies.I also know addicts are everywhere, my own tablets were stolen in hospital while I was having surgery, tablets went missing at the pharmacy obviously taken by a staff member. I am not an addict but opiates are the only medication that works for me. This is fear mongering at its worst, by anti opioid hysterics. You try having constant pain, lady.

    This is such an exciting subject matter. It's truly unfortunate and disappointing that Mark, the chosen government instructor is lackluster, at best. Random polls that aren't even on the syllabus.. "Anyone? Anyone? Anyone?" I've listened to several others, albeit some not pertaining to the State of MO, that have been truly inspiring and eye-opening. These changes have needed to be made for so many years now. Dealing with the pandemic was a hard time for all, however, results like these were able to get the needed time dedicated and the breakdown from years of research - along with the opioid crisis simultaneously definitely breathed life into all of this dissected information regarding SUD's, patient respect, care and the privacy ALL patients should be treated with.
