Of all the athletic performances in the history of sports, human or otherwise. No other performance brings a tear of joy to my eyes like this does. Even if you know nothing of horse racing the performance and the sound of the crowd emit an energy of amazement of the highest order possible. You can see it and you can feel it. The great golfer Jack Nicholas once said “as he came down the strait away I cried”. The epiphany that this triple crown victory was perfection, something all athletes dream of but almost never achieve. Let’s not forget that Sec set records in all 3 which still stand today. And this one, the Belmont, is a world record that as Chick Anderson states, may stand forever. As a athlete I can always recognize greatness, and perhaps this single performance is possibly the greatest of all time and is recognized by many analysts as such. Thank you for posting 😃

first 3/4 mile in 1:09 - race horses can't sprint 3/4 mile in that time! as with the previous 2 races Secretariat just continued to lengthen his lead all the way to the wire. so, in effect, he just kept running faster and faster?!! Imagine the times of the previous 2 races if he had started like he did in the Belmont! Greatest horse - GOD's horse indeed!! Can't get enough watching the triple crown races of 1973.

I watched it in 1973 big red secretariat the greatest horse in history what a beautiful animal

His time of 2:24 says he beat every other horse in history by at least 9 lengths

All these years later and I still get chills whenever I hear “He’s moving like a tremendous machine.” No truer words have ever been spoken than on that day. There will never be another performance like Secretariat at Belmont. This was as close to perfection as you’ll ever see. Secretariat was just built to be the greatest. He truly was God’s Horse. RIP Big Red! ❤

He is the only horse in the frame and yet still the most exciting horse race that will ever be. The world collectively screamed him home.

Greatest race ever run, ever, period. Sham tried, but he just wore himself out too early. He knew, but it was the only thing to try after the previous 2 races...

Me...today...why?... because he was the greatest, literally. The biggest heart (ever) in a horse with a record run that still stands to this day 50 years later.

oh my..cant imagine if there is a horse can do this..just imagine, how hockeys run their horses before and until now that they control their horse until when they are near to finished line then they make it fast their horses..but secretariat runs fast until it finish the line

most race of secretariat start last or dont have goid start but he always pass all other horses outside..this shows how speed secretariat had that no dought even now or previous horses no one can bit him

some say..what if secretariat is racong with 10 horses...is je can still win..the speed and power of sectariat is far strong than any horse even now..secretariat prove it when he always start last and he always run outside

Had sham not been injured in this race, i believe secretariat would still have won, but maybe by 2 to 3 lengths at best.

Sham’s stable’s strategy going into this race was to open their horse up early and anticipate that Secretariat would rise to the challenge and burn himself out in doing so. Sham proceeded to finish dead last in the Belmont.

Watching this stoned as hell on the 4th of July in a most messed up week and year in America and when that guy says "A TREMENDOUS MACHINE" the Stars and Stripes goes waving by at the same time and I say that yes, yes we were. We really were.....

My theory is Secretariat saw Shams running alongside him and took it personal. The Last Prance

This derby had better audio from the horses and jockeys than any race before after. Starting at 2:05, listen to all of the snorting you can hear from, I think Real Quiet (I'm assuming they had the horse trying for TC mic'd up). His snorts, the hooves, the yelling from the jockeys....1998's video/coverage was special.

And the records still stand!! lol...as if there was ever any doubt. The heart of a champion...literally! A heart twice the size of the anatomical norm with the ability to process oxygen at an insatiable rate. With every stroke he impaled most every competitor that he ever faced. 21 races with 16 wins, 3 seconds and 1 third. (must have had a hot date and missed the gate for #21). Some may say that he had an unfair advantage over his competition because of his superior physical attributes. Those will most also say that Usain Bolts legs were excessively long and his stride should have disqualified his mind numbing sub 9.7 100m run. (not wind aided)... The list of non drug induced winning performances by those endowed with GODs given physical attributes that provided them with the ability to produce off the charts achievements is exhausting in length.....!! Obviously draw your own conclusions as to how lofty Secretariats achievements should be evaluated. There is no doubt as to where mine lie......glta!!
