    "REJECTING PERFECTIONISM" (A nostalgic short story about my great grandfather, and his daughter, my grandmother - "Nanny Orah") ❤️ The Swedes have a word for REJECTING PERFECTIONISM: "LAGOM", roughly translates to "JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT", "BALANCE & FOCUS ON THE ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS." My father's-mother's-father (Oscar Johnson - my great grandfather), immigrated to Canada from Sweden when the Titanic sailed... The Story is... ...Oscar had 2 tickets for the Titanic, however his brother was called to work 2 weeks earlier... They never took the Titanic... if not for this perceived "Imperfect timing", perhaps he and my grandmother and my father and I never would have existed! 🤷‍♂️ Dependant on perspective, this may have been "Lagom"? Supposedly... Oscar brought electricity to Northern Alberta, and... supposedly, Oscar once bought land on a handshake in Peace River Country (later found to have oil) - the handshake wasn't honoured... who knows what that could have meant for my family... Dependant on perspective, this may have been "Lagom"? His Daughter (Orah Johnson), my Dad's Mom, is one of the most inspiring women I've ever known. Her kids and grandkids (myself included) could do no wrong in her eyes, always loved and accepted for who we were. Orah valued and paid close attention to everyones unique individuality and encouraged our strengths and abilities, never a harsh or critical word spoken to us, only seeing our value! She was proud of us all in our unique authentic ways. Full of love, compassion, empathy, understanding, seeing the best in everyone, she showed gentle assertiveness and care. To Orah everyone had value and worth! She somehow lived and embodied: "Lagom", as though she believed EVERYONE IS ESSENTIAL, and EVERYONE WAS JUST RIGHT for who they are! ❤️ The mindset of Lagom can bring a different perspective. Life may not be perfect, perhaps there is a balance and peace of mind when focusing on the essentials and rejecting perfectionism?

    I took a look at the house from outside in January together with my family. It was so heartwarming that there were so many children laughing and playing in the snow right before her house in the park. In no other place in Stockholm we had seen so many playing children. I wanted to see the house because her books are a compass in my heart since my childhood. I also read her wartime diaries, very important history book. The house looked warm and colourful and beautiful with the blue winter sky.

    Considering myself a foreigner to swedish culture and customs, I've been intrigued by "surströmming" for quite a while now, since I've seen a clip on YT about it. Of course it was one of those films, where adult people behave like naive teens and seem to make a competition out of puking noises and disrespect against other nations customs. So I was looking for native eaters on YT and found some good clips where the myth was explained in a chilled way by chilled experts, ie swedish people. What seemed to be important ingredients of the ritual were Beer and Aquavit/Schnaps. You don't mention them, is there a reason? Your method of opening the cans under water and leaving them there for half an hour, I consider a great idea, though. And focusing on how to hold the fish to remove the bones is helpful. Anyway...you made me curious now, so I'll follow you for a while, to learn about your folks. Tummen upp, tack och skål! ❤

    Astrid Lindgren portrayed the police as idiots in Pippi, let her books and films show grown-up men nude ( for example in Ronja The Robber's Daughter) and Alfred swimming naked next to Emil. She didn't like parents dealing out consequences for kids. I used to think, she wad cool. I don't anymore. It's bumbeling idiots with the mindset like her, that now have destroyed Sweden.

      Ya bro but Lobster and caviar. People have eaten more than that. Caviar and sauerkraut they’re not even side dishes, they’re like condiments, like Chicken nuggets and BBQ sauce, people don’t really count the BBQ sauce and another meal. I mean like fish and chips you count that as a meal, and you certainly don’t count the tartare sauce as another meal. People since then to nowadays eat Lobster as the main dish, and that’s the second plate, there’s first plate, soup, salad, appetizers, hors d`œuvre, dessert some cocktails, beers and coffee. What about the 7, 8, 12 course tasting meal that people have nowadays? Heck Lobster and a Steak is only a meal in surf and turf, and we don’t count the bread, mash potatoes, or other condiments. Heck, look at Matt stonie and competition eaters. What about that? How did it cause your stomach to burst tho? A McDonald’s meal with a bag of chip, nuggets, burger, and cola along with McFlurry surely doesn’t get your stomach to burst. Heck a sauerkraut and caviar? Really? It’s like you got your stomach burst cause you eat the bbq and sweet and sour sauce that comes along with the chicken. I mean what?

    • @beluwuga
      @beluwuga Před 3 lety

      @@aidengriffith8208 Gluttony tho? He’s known as the fairest king of Sweden at the time, he made civil rights a thing, allowed printing press or newspaper as known today, and an overall stabilize country with good level of welfare for citizens. Economy runs smoothly, the citizens are relatively in the safe level of economy to rich in fact. And bro sauerkraut and caviar? You thinking gluttony? You think about good probiotic health, your trip to local fast food restaurant for some fast and quick food might have more calorie than lobster and sauerkraut and caviar. Sauerkraut is literally a fermented vegetable, it’s a cabbage, but healthier. Caviar? you eat chips and chicken and you consider a caviar is another meal? It’s a caviar it’s not even a side dish. I mean c’mon do your research before you speak envy and lust are also deadly sins.

      @@TomasSpragg Robot dammsugare...have to try it. No, no Semla yet. Heard that until 3 decades ago Semla was sold only one day in the country. I have not seen semlor yet, but looking forward to having them. And more importantly, on how to make them. if you are covering the recipe, a suggestion as a CZcams, if you are doing it in real time, (depending on how the video is done) or at least editing in real time, (you continue to chat and learn while the bread is baking)--then you might want to give out ingredients ahead of time along with needed equipment. it could be a video and a recipe session. just a suggestion.
