Problems with the Fonson parallel guide system (Festool guide rails)

I show problems with the guide rail system here: www.banggood.com/FONSON-Upgraded-Aluminum-Alloy-Parallel-Guide-System-for-Repeatable-Cuts-for-Track-Saw-Rail-Fit-for-Festool-Woodworking-Tools-Hook-Upgrade-p-1912623.html and recommended by a number of CZcamsrs.
I think after they saw your video, they set the Helicoil a little deeper because that's what it looks like to me, I haven't had any problems. It is a good product and especially for that price!
Just got mine. Not a problem on it.
It is really good for the slide rail to move smoothly also in Festool's t-groove, because many of us constantly change parallel guides from one rail to another. I fixed the problem by adding small strips of plastic between the t-slide bars and the parallel guides. The area between the fastening screws is sufficient for the filling. A good strip thickness would seem to be around 0.6-0.8 millimeters. The material of the strips probably has no importance for the accuracy of the parallel guide, they could just as well be cardboard, etc.
I have just received my PLG order. Have the same issue. Even without the small grub screws in the bar, unless you loosen the two main screws fixing the rail to the bar it will not slide into the channel. I would expect that these screws would remain tight and would secure in place by then tightening the small grub screws in the bar.
Just added a very small shim in between bar and Rail fixing. Works OK now, however, should not have to do this.
Just got mine in. Didn't have this problem.
Da,,2 seconds on side grinder will De-ber wire. Then Wala works perfect
Yes and also, with the festool ts(v) 60 track saw, you have to cut about 3 to 5 mil from the first rail-piece otherwise you cannot calibrate, the calibration rod cannot reach the sawblade. Then its ok and accurate
Replacing a Helicoil is a simple operation. If you need help with it just ask a local auto mechanic.
is an helicoil, no big deal just grind it of flush
Hi everyone. I just want to update on the situation, since I might not have time to create a proper video update. The seller did not respond to my enquiry. What I had to do was suggested by @billmackinnon6505 : I had to put the relevant steel insert into a vice and try and grind down the edge of the helicoil with a dremel. This eventually got the helocoil low enough so that it could be smoothly inserted. When considering the purchase of these, I suggest for readers to consider whether they want to buy it direct from China or have it purchased on Amazon or a similar site for a markup. If the difference is not enormous (say on the order of £10) you may simply want to purchse this 'locally' so that it can be returned. Unfortunately it seems that Aliexpress or Bangood sellers will not help you in case of this kind of issue.
One of the thumbscrews is taller than the other one.
They’re not supposed to move once you’ve set the width
Mine works and fits fine, dead on 90 degrees. I use it often.
Right, a bit of work filing the shoulders of the sliding bar and it now fits both sets of rails😊
The wires called a helicoil and is a harder than aluminium thread insert so longer lasting than plain aluminium.... it should screw in a bit more to go below the surface (try tap round with a drift if no helicoild tool). failing that hit it with a file and cover with a bit of tape.... alternatively file the end of the screws down by a millimetre or so not to push out the coil... I have one and its great value compared to others and really quite well made all things considered. If you get something from china for cheap expect to do some fettling........
i had the exact same issue when using on my evolution rails but it fits on my rails from rutlands. banggood customer support were hopeless, only offered me a paltry coupon and even suggested i sell the square ! i wonder if we could use a dremel to grind away the protruding section?
You should have stayed with the festool guide rail ! Stay with the best don't bother with others...
I recently purchased them and had the screws in wrong first till I noticed that they had to go in on the bottom side
You have the rail screws in wrong. They need to be the opposite way
Hi, could you give me a timestamp of where you're referring to?
@@philhario3640I enlarged the picture in your post and can clearly see the screws are not installed correctly. Put them in the opposite way and you can still use the Allen key to tighten
The issue I had was the threaded insert came out and I was unable to thread them back in. I was unable to find the correct screw to use the factory threes in the bar. I had to drillthem out and re- tap with 7mm x 1.00 screws. Cost be about 20 dollars to repair. Terrible design, just thread the bar correctly from manufacturer. Did get a response from banggood debut was easier to repair myself. Other than the thread issue square is well made and accurate.
Any response from Banggood?
