Arduino Automation Installed On My Roll Off Roof Observatory
I finally installed Arduino automation & all the sensors on my roll off roof observatory. This is a huge game changer!! Just pick your target to image for the night & the time it will be in view for your backyard location & Arduino & Nina will handle the rest from cooling the camera down, start guiding etc all while you are away from home or asleep in the bed. It felt a bit weird going to bed & thinking will everything start & work successfully & waking up this morning & all images were captured for the night without me having to go outside for anything. I did do several test sessions & got everything tweaked but was still a bit scary that it would work without me actually babysitting the start & end process 😁

I Built A New Bigger Roll Off Roof Observatory
zhlédnutí 1KPřed 4 měsíci
I ended up building a new roll off roof observatory. It took me about 1 month and a couple of weeks to complete. I ended up keeping the original wood deck and floor that I built 2 years ago. I wanted to have just a little bit more space around the telescope and that basically motivated me to start the build process. That was my 1st time doing roof shingles and vinyl siding. Lucky I already had ...

Mini Roll Off Roof Observatory Update & Details

This is a update to my small Rubbermaid Slid Lid Shed that I converted over to a roll off roof observatory. I made a small modification to the roof section so it can slide a little bit smoother since the plastic can flex just a little from being the sun all day. I also go over some small details that may help others if you are thinking of getting this type of shed for use with your gear.

    You know I have roughly the same gear you have and have just completed a cement pier install and am about to build the shed and have been struggling with size but looking at yours...that's probably exactly the size I want. Some people seem to build them so that they can live in them but really, if you have all the automation dialed-in, I would rarely need to be inside with the rig for any length of time then get my butt back into the house to remote run it. Thanks for the video and all the great tweaks.

      The shed is actually smaller than it looks & for my setup with the dew shield on my 8” it will clip the roof if the entire roof wasn’t removed out of the way. Maybe this wouldn’t happen if you have a smaller refractor like a 60mm.

    Yea , I work with one of your child hood friends ..Willie Wallace , he told me about your channel because I love astronomy too. I plan on purchasing a Nexstar 8se and was wondering which ZWO camera will give me the best images as of 2024?

    • @deejaybustab
      @deejaybustab Před 4 měsíci

      Ok cool yeah we go way back. Basically all ZWO cameras will give a great image but all depends if you want to go with 1 shot color cameras or with mono cameras. It will take time to get a decent image when 1st starting out because you will need to learn how to use the gear & how to process the images. It can get overwhelming in the beginning & very complicated from reading post on it all. If you go mono you will need filters for each channel of color & narrow band you need to shoot. For 1 shot color cameras you will still need some type of filter for light pollution or UV IR blocking. I have several ZWO cameras & use a certain one for whatever type of targets im shooting. If you talk to the guys at highpoint scientific they can recommend & really help with deciding on what to get but as you will get to know, this hobby will get really expensive really fast lol!! The cameras I use now are the ZWO ASI1600mm, ASI533mc & the asi224mc. Lots of people are using some ZWO cameras that are way more expensive than what I am using because they have deeper pockets lol

Because the luminance of the moons and planet is noticeably different, it is best to take images of the planet with the gain set for its luminance and another set with the gain set to optimize the moons and then just composite them in PS or LR.
