Jamaica Says No To Deep Sea Mining
On 31 March, 2023, Jamaicans under the leadership of the Jamaica Climate Change Youth Council held a protest to tell delegates attending the International Seabed Authority's meeting that they must protect the planet's oceans and ban seabed mining, because such mining would cause unimaginable damage to marine ecologies that we all depend upon for oxygen, food, water, carbon sequestration, climate regulation, culture, and connectivity, but of which humans have very little understanding or knowledge.
The delegates of the ISA, without any oversight or input from the inhabitants of the world, are deciding the fate and future of the planet. By not voting for a moratorium on seabed mining, by permitting seabed mining and allowing seabed mining in the open oceans to legally start in July 2023, they are enabling reckless extractivism to spread to the most important part of our planet - our oceans and seas.
Help to stop deepsea mining: www.greenpeace.org/international/act/stop-deep-sea-mining/ For more information: www.greenpeace.org/usa/issues/deep-sea-mining/
The International Seabed Authority is headquartered in Kingston, Jamaica. ISA "is an autonomous international organization established under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 1994 Agreement relating to the Implementation of Part XI of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (1994 Agreement)." It is "the organization through which States Parties to UNCLOS organize and control all mineral-resources-related activities in the Area for the benefit of humankind as a whole. In so doing, ISA has the mandate to ensure the effective protection of the marine environment from harmful effects that may arise from deep-seabed-related activities." (www.isa.org.jm/about-isa/)

Great video - greatly enriched by meeting the locals! This part of Jamaica is not often visited by tourists; I taught in Jamaica for some years but I hardly went there; I visited the Blue Mountains often. The word cockpit refers to a shallow cave. And there are many here. The region is covered with limestone which dissolves readily in rainwater to produce depressions and caves. Keep up the good work!

Monnaie, servitude et liberté. La. répression monétaire en Afrique (Tchundang . Joseph). Main basse sur le Cameroun (Mongo Béti).. Nations Nègres et Culture (Cheik Anta Diop). Remember Ruben. (Mongo Béti) QUAND L'AFRICAIN ETAIT L'OR NOIR DE L'EUROPE (BWEMBA BONG) ................................ Veuillez partager ! ............................................
