Drysuit Ownership Q and A
After the last drysuit review, I received a lot of questions about many of the different options available. Instead of a review between DUI and Santi, I discuss some considerations when buying a drysuit as well as what to expect during ownership.
This video is geared toward someone that doesn’t currently own a drysuit, and looking for information on what options to pick, or someone that would like to gain more insight on the features of the drysuit from a cave diving perspective.

Cave Diving- Peacock Springs, Olsen Bypass Tunnel

One of the prettiest parts of peacock and off the well traveled routes that it doesn’t get much traffic. It’s a finesse type tunnel. Pillowy silt and duck unders make this easy to dusty up. But with precision diving and proper technique it can be a fun little part of the cave.

Emerald sink is part of the Leon Sinks cave system near Tallahassee Florida. This dive was a 2 stage downstream scooter to about 1500-2000 feet approximately 40 mins round trip back to deco at Emerald. After we cleared the deep deco, we did a short scooter upstream to burn off some of our shallow deco time and check out the black abyss. We scootered approximately 1000 feet upstream. Total run t...
Cave Diving-A Sunday Sunrise Scooter At Ginnie Springs

this is a slight re-edit. We arrived at ginnie springs at 6 am on Sunday the 25th, to beat the crowds and have the cave all to ourselves. The plan was to scooter to about 2800, nice and slow. Braxton and I dropped stages at the dog leg (approximately 1200 feet into the cave) at about the 18 min mark. We continued to scooter up to stage bottle rock and then sweet surprise jump. Braxton had not s...

Which boots are those on the eLite? There's a few options available. Which ones are those? Also, you can eliminate channeling at the wrists by pulling the wrist seal higher up the forearm. But I'm sure you already know that well. LOL!
Worth bearing in mind that I think the elite+ is only 0.7kg heavier than the lightest suit (emotion). Buying a lighter suitcase (or traveling with soft luggage) will easily net you that difference, if travel is an issue
Do you still like the elite plus? How has it held up in the caves? How does it compare in practice to the elite?
Yeah it’s great. It’s prob less durable than a standard elite but better than the emotion and plus
@@caveshark any major issues with the durability ?
@@jayz8812 none.
Never lost anything in a cave,so I ain't going in a cave..I tried to dive within my limits..
Sweet !
Thank you
Awesome, Video!! 👍🤿
Cool, Video!! 👍🤿
I'm working on my full cave certification. Would you say this is a good cave for beginners it looks amazing
Yeah this is a great cave to train in. I recommend going with someone that knows the cave well a few times to show you around. This will make your experience more enjoyable
@@caveshark I had plans to go with Brian Kakurk my instructor that's been doing my training if you heard of him
Beautifull ! ❤️

Great review thank you , I’m going Saturday to get measured for the santi elite plus Notsure on the colours yet ? Look good dive good 👍
If you could only buy what would it be? I keep going back and forth on flx extreme and santi e lite plus. Like Santis glove system
I have 3 Santi drysuits and I prefer them. But I do love the DUI.
I just set up my first set of doubles last weekend 👍
Nice job on the comparison. I’ve been a long time DUI Drysuit owner and am looking for another suit, because everybody needs several suits, right? Anyway, I’m pretty sure that I am going with the E-Lite+, but was wondering why you made the choice for the zipper to go from the right shoulder to left hip on your last two suits, as apposed to the “traditional” left shoulder to right hip? I know it’s an option and it is one I haven’t given a lot of thought to. Thanks.
Awesome video. I got a question on the concept of "CAVE CUT" by DUI. Which areas does DUI tighten up to produce the cave cut suit? Have you compared a standard cut and the cave cut of the same measurements side by side? Thanks.
I don’t believe many people are doing cave cuts anymore. I don’t personally know of anyone that does it. I think the value of having a comfy suit out weighs the benefit of it being more streamlined. In fact my DUI is cut a bit bigger in the chest and shoulders as it will be only used for long duration dives and I want to have the extra room.
Very nice review, Andrew. With a DUI TLS350, you can get a cave cut for streamlining. Santi has a slim cut option. I have a Santi made to measure slim cut. But it is way too tight to be worn with 400 thinsulate undergarment. So I only use it as a summer suit with a 200 thinsulate undercut or less. How does a standard cut Santi suit compare to DUI cave cut? Thanks.
I’ve never gotten any slim cuts in any suits. I’ve always got them cut to my measurements. I’ve fluctuated in weight so some are a mighty tight right now..I blame covid 🤣 As far as the cut with Santi vs dui, I think the Santi cut is nicer and more fitted. But I really like both suits
Great review. Thanks for doing this.
Scuba 🤿 divers get to c the beautiful things most only can dream of. Thank u for sharing...
I LOVE that modified Flutter Kick!!!
Bought the CLX 450 last week and awaiting delivery. Looks like I made the right choice
So lovely and tranquil.
Thank you for creating this video. It was very helpful.
P-Valve on the left thigh for the same reason as you called out for the dump valve on the left shoulder. Left hand is the free hand, so you can shift that arm and dump gas easier on the left. Similarly, use the left hand to close or open the P-Valve should you need to, without having to stop doing whatever your right hand is busy doing in it's job as the working hand. be it on the trigger, etc..
I think it also has to do with which side you are "comfortable" with for hose routing. I don't see it being an issue on the left or right with today's modern balanced valves. Maybe when you had to constantly fiddle with an unbalanced to keep it closed until needed. I think there is a strong tradition with all the "working" items being on the left. However I have had mine on the left since the beginning so I can't really say if it would be annoying on the right. I can scooter with both hands anyway so It's not an issue to deal with stuff on the right if needed.
I hear you and generally don't disagree. Just passing on the background I was given shoreside after a days diving. It may be a historical footnote now, but it made sense, so I went with it when I installed mine. great video!
On the DUI, is the plug on the chest a better placement for your heater pack?
More reliable to have a port dedicated to heat, rather than the plug/inflator valve. Placement of the port is good in that position, just make sure the cable is long enough.
Awesome video, I don’t know if you read my comment on the video before this one that I left yesterday... but coincidentally this video answered all those questions! Ha.
I did, I tried to incorporate many of the common questions. Honestly you can’t go wrong with either suit.
Really enjoying your videos, talented divers. Do you have an email address? As I further broaden my cave curiosity, I’ll need to become a basic CD and would like to ask a few questions about (like tech) the many different avenues to approach it. Thanks in advance.

Great review. I’m heavily considering the ELite plus / CLX450. Currently I own the Cortez... it seems extremely durable but lacks in the flexibility and mobility aspects which are clearly extremely important. What DUI model will you review? I missed it if you mentioned it! Again, great video... thanks for your contribution.
What kind of spots are you using?
The primary light i use is the halcyon focus
I'm curious about the capacity and brand of the double tank you're using. I need some reference to buy the double tank this time
Faber lp 85 make a nice set of doubles to do most tunnels especially at peacock
Can I ask about your thoughts on the Elite (classic)? It would have seemed the better choice for caves, no?
So the classic E.lite is an excellent choice for cave diving. Unfortunately it only comes in black for the main color of the suit. I would have gotten that if the new elite didn’t come out.
Is this that little tunnel to the right of the main tunnel near Olsen sink?
This tunnel starts in the crossover tunnel. It’s not really named on the peacock map. So maybe tough to explain without a picture.
@@caveshark I think I can see what you mean, starts in crossover half way between Peanut and Olsen, and parallels Olsen until just above it.
Yep that’s it
The tunnel you are talking about starts at the keyhole on the Olsen line and comes out just before Olsen sink. Pretty little tunnel very silty but is worth doing called by some as the sleepy hollow tunnel
Great video, dude. Mer def makes it look easy haha.
Thanks, glad you like it! I really enjoy having the privilege to dive these beautiful caves and I like to share them with people that may not get to see it with their own eyes.
@@caveshark cave diving isn't really all difficult if you put safety top priority and use common sense and know your limits
@@ericdroddy7444 agreed, but it’s also not for divers with poor skills and needs to be respected.
@@caveshark would you recommend Peacock a good cave for beginners? I'm currently working on my full cave certification and want a easy cave to begin with
