The real rason Perry picked both of them is the fact that... not only do they make a great team. But come on... think! After everything they went to, he was trying to put them back together again. If they were forced to work together again, things would pick back up again between the two of them, and... well...

Braff and Chalke are so comfortable with one another that even though their characters are feuding, they can’t help standing so close that they’re touching. On the one hand, it kinda breaks my immersion watching, but on the other, I appreciate their chemistry as actors.
