Two Trees Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 charitable non-profit organization dedicated to community building and cultural bridging through: cultural exchanges; empowerment events and activities; and production of multi-media materials. It was also created to carry out the vision of Lakota Rose Madison, a 17-year-old Hunkpapa Lakota woman who was murdered before her vision of creating safe places for at-risk youth and having cultural exchanges could be realized. Two Trees, Inc. promotes models of service and methodologies of intercultural interaction that engage individuals and communities as pro-active agents in their own healing, especially those involved with youth recovery, wellness, and empowerment. Consequently, the "helping," "fixing," "rescuing," and "saving" approach is deconstructed and discouraged.
Geodesic Dome Raising
In September, Two Trees donated a geodesic dome kit manufactured by Natural Spaces Domes to the Wakpala Tiospaye on the Cheyenne Indian Reservation. When completed, the structure will serve as a community gathering and healing center. This video shows the raising of that dome kit by an independent contractor (M.R. Sawyer) from Pennsylvania who donated his services and those of his four employees to the project. Tiospaye members Luke and Linda Black Elk narrate the video.

The 4 quadrants on the medicine wheel can signify many things.
Where do you get the connecting hardware?
May I suggest that rather than wooden Geodesic Domes for your Medical Center, you consider Monolithic Domes. They are far stronger and much more storm resistant. Cost considerably less to heat and cool as well.
The dome kit in the video was donated to our non-profit organization for construction on the rez. It was very easy to construct in the remote location that would have been impossible for cement trucks to reach. I agree that Monolithic Domes are great but have you checked the absolutely ridiculous high cost of cement these days? Based on building when I've had the money to do so, I've done at least four major additions and retrofits to my two wooden domes here in PA over the last 51 years that would have been impossible to do with a Monolithic Dome. My domes have survived a tornado and a tree falling on one of them (the tree go broken in the fall).
how do you keep it from leaking and also interior lighting
I haven't been back to this dome for about five years so I'm not sure what's happened since we put it up. I personally live in two domes that I constructed from Bucky Fuller's plans in Popular Science Magazine. They're fifty years old and have never leaked due to proper shingling and sealing. In the living room dome with its 17' height I installed five hanging globe lights on dimmers for lighting.
Uma boa noite para todos!
The diameter of the dome is 36' and the height, I think, is 18'
Nice, would love to see the hub design, what is height and diameter of dome? Thanks
Definitely better with the mute feature activated
You can see the original dome and equipment on my channel
I haven't heard my dad's voice since 2007. Thank you David. (He's heard at the beginning)
Where is the damp proof membrane between the concrete and the wood.
I am so very sorry for your loss.. What a remarkeable young woman .. Such a shame she was taken off this planet before her time. May she rest in peace.
she gave me headaches !!
Great dome but I would have put more windows in it.
I can see that these Volunteers are not " Professional Tradesmen, " and I'll grant that ! And I don't expect complete expertise from them . But @ 1:42 Somebody Ought to have Informed them about " Safety Equipment " or " Ware " ! Because that man on the ground level could have had his head " Torn Open " if one of those 2" X 8"'s would have fallen on his head ! If I had been there, Even as a Workman, I would Not have Let That gone bye, and Not Brought that matter Up !
I think that dome houses are good in any environment :)
It’s coming
One thing I'm not getting here. Would it not be more economical and man hour saving to construct your dome from the top down? As you construct the apex simply raze it to joint the next sections.
Nice project, the problem is safety, the older guy in green should have been standing on the bottom rung of the ladder for safety and the project should have screwed together not nailed.
Wheres the safety equipment?
OSHA HAS JOINED THE CHAT
Oh no the government has come to help...
Sure like this kit and size. Would like know more
"Decolonized medicine" hahaha,,, a new low has been reached,,, try "decolonizing" that toilet and septic system, or maybe the Western science and industry that provided your home,, lot's of oil used in that dome,,, the hypocrisy of this women is hard to bear
I don't think you are quite judgemental enough... try going even harder at them, like really dig in and destroy them.... oh and what have you done lately to help someone, anyone?
Your ignorance is incredible
When nailing those plywood triangles to the struts, does the plywood sit flush with the struts? Or is it always at an angle?
Why the Grace over the GAF Deck Armor? Aren´t they the same? Good job
Food is your medicine so I sure hope you are only serving vegan foods! Meat, fish, dairy and eggs are poison to the body!
I wonder what ever happened to this project. Was it completed?

Where’d you get the hubs.

is this a video about building a dome or is it a doofus sales pitch for some kind of half assed mystical magical new age phony medicine show?
Lots of Indians out there helping...
Wishing I had some help to do the same on my land haven’t been on for 20 years am moving back this year and trying to get my hands floor plans for this gro dome. Going home to help my people back to our roots and not all this

I want to built one who is the contractors
The contractor was Mac Sawyer www.mrsawyergeneralcontractors.com/
@@twotreesinc hello sir , do you any plan or design to share about this dome model and its measures, materials?
'Decolonized medicine'. So medicine that doesn't adhere to the scientific method which is an 'evil European colonist' thing? So basically 'local religion' medicine. I'm wondering if this narrator would support European pagans returning to 'local religion' medicine.
YEEEEEESSSSS!!!!! I want you guys to look up THE EDEN PROJECT. I also want you to look up a company called AliBaba,in China, and they manufacture GEODESIC domes. You can also download their app.
It's a little worrying to a dane seeing almost nobody wearing helmets and fall Security equipment. A concussion from somebody dropping a beam or tool can handicap you for life. A very little effort in safety goes a long way.

WOW, TeePEE the ORIGINAL DOME????
Good initiatief and a lovely dome
Whoa, there is a lot more to this dome. Respect.
When I think of being a citizen of the United States, I honestly feel like a guest. This country belongs to the Indigenous people of the American Indian tribes all across America. I know my words fall on deaf ears for most of the country but I cannot help but feel a kinship or some kind of ancient bond with the American Indian. I apologize for the actions of the people that invaded your home so long ago. There is nothing I say or nothing I can or could do that would change what has happened, but my words are sincere and my pain for your people is real. If I were someday able to win a huge lottery, I would do two things that are on my bucket list. #1 Would be the construction of ALL NEW HOMES for any qualifying indigenous people in need with a renewable fund that would sustain education and food availability to all of you. #2 -well it has nothing to do with you but it is just a personal wish. I wish to be able to build shelters for the animal population in this country. So many dogs and cats and horses are abandoned and are in need of love and care by us. I would build and maintain as much as possible. Good luck to you all and God bless. ✌🏻❤️🇺🇸
The north american tribes were in constant tension with each other. Even the 5 tribe alliance was only in response to the European arrival. It was not in place before the arrival. In fact tribes often genocided each other and you can still find mass graves where one tribe wiped another out and abducted and raped or 'assimilated' the women and children. Obviously other ethnic groups around the world have done similar so this isn't just a American Indian thing but the noble savage trope is a huge myth that needs to die. The people that promote it are almost always deeply biased anti European pseudo academics.
Cultural Appropriation ? ! LOL
First video I seen the Struts {wood} sideways so you can lay panels easier.
You talk so mush about the healthy life and so...but you guys work so unsafe in the height so your life can be ended in seconds when you fall down and hitt the floor... To me it looks like your life is nothing worth in your mind at all. Why dont you use safety gear?
Those are carpenters, they do that stuff every day. Its nothing to them. They were there volunteering their time and effort to build the structure. They weren't the ones talking. You work for OSHA? If it weren't for men like them, you probably wouldn't have a house to live in. Nothing would get done in a timely manner and it would cost you twice as much. Most of the "safety" gear you have to use is more of a hazard than safe when you are in most building situations anyway. I've worked construction and carpentry all my life. Yeah sure, wear a harness and clip your lanyard off when you are hanging off the side of a 200 foot tall LNG tank welding but most of the shit they make you do is unnecessary and actually more hazardous than not. Like strapping off when you are 6 foot off the ground is one of their ridiculous rules. That just fucks you if you did happen to fall. Your lanyard will make you flip and smash your head into the ground. That makes sense. Good job OSHA!
@@mikey_mike A fall from 10 foot can still kill. You sound like a true "Boss" safety takes time and adds cost so lets do without it.
@@HammocksRule ???
@@mikey_mike So which bit about "work safe" do you not understand. Is it the lack of profit or the disregard for your workers which holds you back
@@HammocksRule I work on my own these days so I don't have to worry about employees safety. I work safely, I just don't agree with all of OSHA's rules and regulations.
I'd love to see an update on this as well. Looks awesome.
On a 15" or 18" fiberglass insulated wall, vents on the top and bottom of the wall are installed so that air circulates through the strut vent holes and the 1" air space between the fiberglass insulation and the outer wall to prevent condensation and black mold.
Oh, I see. Thanks for the response. Although: I don't think venting prevents condensation, it just helps dry it out after it happens. To prevent condensation I imagine you would need to throw some ridged foam into the equation and eliminate the air-gap (and thus vents). But now I understand why the vents exist. Thanks.
What is the point of the ventilation notches? Or more importantly: what is the point in ventilation between each triangle? I just don't see why it would be necessary.
Nice dome! I would like to see it finished - is there a follow-on video?
