Investor reacts to good and bad startup pitches
zhlédnutí 3KPřed 21 dnem
Today, I'm trying another show format. In this episode, I react to four famous startup pitches (some real, some fake!). Throughout each pitch, I pause the clip and give my take on what worked and what didn’t. The pitches • Jian Yang’s hot dog app: czcams.com/video/vIci3C4JkL0/video.html • DoorDash’s YC application: czcams.com/video/Rzlr2tNSl0U/video.html • DoorDash’s YC demo day: czcams.com/vid...

Today, I'm trying a new show format. Three founders submit their pitch via video, I react and then give them targeted advice on improving it. I discuss: • Finding the right hook • What information will make investors say yes • When to focus on the product versus the problem • How each founder should refine their pitch Today’s founders • Jacob Peters (www.superpower.com/) • Luke Yarnton (therave...
Founders pitch me their startups #2: Web3 gaming, AI scheduling assistant and more

On today’s episode, three founders pitch me. I give them two perspectives: the investor viewpoint, including the impressions and likely questions they'd face, and detailed feedback on the pitch itself. We discuss: • What not to say • How to talk about traction • Telling a compelling story in under 60s • Avoiding investor confusion • Communicating your unique value Today’s founders: • Austin: Ho...

Love this coaching format!
It was quite valuable to see how Hiten vs founder were approaching the problem Breaking into spaces is also something pretty much every startup goes through
Great to hear! Thanks for sharing
What do you think about this longer conversation format with Cody?
Awesome episode! Loved how you pushed him to think about the real challenges of his business! Also, the differentiation discussion was great! 🙌
Great content! I didn't know you were creating videos! Glad you are! 💪
Spot is in prob a tarpit idea, another social media like this definitely does not solve a big pain points to drive users to this, personally i wont be cutting my time on instagram, tiktok for this , B2C problem solving is EXTREMELY hard, most b2c problems are not that painful to switch or even find the solutions and his problem is definitely not painful. B2C having 500 customers and stuff is not traction, it’s definitely not sustainable yet and not ready for funding. This is my personal experience. Your user and information base cant ever match instagram and tiktok, in this case its definitely better to go to tiktok and instagram to do this instead of doing in 1 application. So in order to even match the information base to actually replace instagram and tiktok in this, it is already impossible. This problem is not painful to solve, with all due respect Michael i think you should pivot
❤❤❤

These days this tech is old
Killer app ... NOT!
My favorite show ever
I was here for the silicon Valley content, and enjoyed the rest too
Same here, this is great stuff.
Cool
Great new format. Reminds me of this video from Wired - czcams.com/video/CxDVAd_N5nI/video.htmlsi=psNRceiOf9i8mfXU. One idea: Next time if you did the entire setup similar to this Wired video, it might be little more engaging and "cinematic". Title could also be "Investor Reacts to TV's Worst Startup Pitches". Overall, very entertaining, I think it'll do well. Looking forward to watching more.
Thank you for the idea. Really appreciate you stopping by.
@@hnshah Np, looking forward to more.
Super relevant for me right now - keep up the great work!
Great to hear!
❤
This was super helpful! Thanks
Great video Hiten! I’m building in the social network space. Hoping to make some impact.
Awesome, drop me an email! Would love to have you on the show
Stellar videos, Hiten, I'm hooked. I love the spoken and written key points, and how susincttly your ideas are presented. Also subbed.
Thank you 🙏
They all bots dude, telling u as user. It's matrix polymorphs. Magic of imperfect system. 😊
Wow only a few videos in but you’re fantastic. Great production, great video ideas, and you’re really good at evaluating intelligently. Subbed.
Thanks - great to have you onboard!
Love it! So little high quality startup content like yours out there.
I appreciate that!
Luke from Pixels is crushing it!
Even his camera is pixelated
I guess it's on brand 🤷♂️
Hot takes at the end were fun. :)
Thanks! Good to know 😊 I’ll try do more in up coming episodes
Your takes on hiring and firing made this well worth the time. @stevenmusielski from X has spoken highly of you and that says even more. @palsun1 from X also said you really a great person to follow as well.
Creasing at your reaction to offshore Also surprised at the 'didn't push hard enough to hire the excellent person' reflection. Was expecting the inverse; 'didn't push hard enough to not hire someone who was just okay'
More than remote working, we don't know how to *manage* remotely.
Great point Alan.
Awesome! Thanks Hiten.
Sure thing, thanks for tuning in!
congrats! not my fav style of videos (i feel the pacing is a little bit slow) but definitely useful! I'd say to make things more interesting, I'd try to add more videos like 9:41, but tbh, make their clips short cause it feels they're pitching (i don't care about their companies) but more about their problems. and try to make it more general problem. that guy was talking a lot and many things he was aying did not resonate with me and i was like... sure fine, and? anyway, keep it up!
Thanks for watching the episode and your feedback! Noted =)
Amazing.
Thank you for sharing this.
I’m always fired up listening to you on startups. This was great!
Great to hear! Did you enjoy the pitch format?
Is there an accelerator/ pitch day/ demo day for potential investors in the roadmap? 😉 (love the learnings)
Love this! It is so extremely helpful to see how you hone in on what's actually most important to immediately sharpen up the pitch.
Love it. This was so much fun to do. Appreciate you having me on to test run an early & rough version of my 1min elevator pitch.
We'll have to get you back on the show for an update after you close your round!
This is awesome Hiten!
love this! we're both starting our CZcams channels at the same time. Epic times ahead!
I enjoyed it!
Great to hear! What do you want to hear next?
loved this episode, honest and refreshing takes 🙌 my favorite part @ 20:43
Thanks, that's great to hear!
Hiten, You choose violence in the first episode. so much insights loved the part where you talk about raising @ 18 refreshing take! really valuable.
great first episode Hiten - loved the “party line” advice
You committed hard for Episode 1 The Phantom Menace by opening with a "VC" that "ghosts" you.
If you're seeing this, thank you for being an early supporter! Very excited to hear what you think: www.hiten.show/feedback
