The property taxes tripled for us from 1999-2023. We sold our house and found a better area to live with half the property tax outside Portland and Multnomah county. Portland has a spineless mayor and a DA who’s soft on crime. Glad we got OUT.

I love North Plains! Drive there for work semi-regularly. Such a quaint area.

So once a month on the corner of NE Halsey and 122 nd, a guy shows up in his blue tent. Puts it right on the sidewalk to make it unwalable. He then proceeds to let the homeless people come into his tent and get high as a kite. They then walk up and down the remainder of the sidewalk high as a kite. Like 10 of them there just wandering mindless. Then a couple more put up their tents, cause who wouldn’t want to live next door to the drug dealer? This happens every month when the welfare checks come in. You’d think the police would have caught on by now.

Arlington Heights is not walkable. Seems that's a priority now.

Yes, people are moving to Portland and real estate prices are not collapsing as some less than truthful people posting on CZcams claim. In the last 2 months, my neighbors house was listed at $750k and sold for $823k and my cousins house listed at $699k sold for $728k. The buyers were from Phoenix and Dallas.

Don't give people a false impression of Portland population decreasing, despite more people moving in. The traffic congestion has quadrupled over the past 10 to 15 years! If you want to get an honest readout of how overpopulated an area is, look no further than major highways/freeways coming and going into and from Portland metro areas.

I was among those who moved to Portland, and here are some of my observations. I couldn’t afford to dine in any of the wonderful restaurants because I was living on a low Portland salary that barely covered necessities. People were superficially friendly but isolated in their own homes. The natural scenery was gorgeous but nine-tenths of the year it was too rainy to enjoy it. The mild temperatures I was expecting went down into the 30s every night in the winter and I froze even with an overworked heater… End of my story? I lasted 7 months and went back home!

I’ve come to realize you can’t take anyone else’s opinions and biases to heart. Though Portland might not look quite the way it did 5 years ago the city is still beautiful and has a ton to offer. Many areas such as pioneer square are coming back or are bustling once again. The city of roses is one the rise and mainstream media paints it with a bad brush.

Portland is full of naked bicycle riding left-handed anarchist vegans! Better off in Seattle. DO NOT move to Portland FFS! You have been warned!

People thinking about moving here, who are actually friendly and happy people... You will be shocked that people here are not very friendly, unless you belong to whatever cult they are in.

Not enough people are aware that the taxes are too high because of democrat corruption. Crime is high because democrats are pro-criminal. Washington is not safe because they keep making violent criminals more safe -- criminalizing self-defense (just like Oregon but worse).

What used to be considered one of the most walkable cities will never be again. The progressive leadership isn't going anywhere and neither is the city of Portland for at least 15 years, if ever.

It is FAR from being a friendly place , No eye contact , people dont respond if talked to , its the most aloof shy timid society on Earth !

I've been living in Portland for 8 years, can't type out much right now but I can answer any questions. Overall quite a nice city, but let's keep some of that negative press to help keep rents down lol.

My 18 year old son has worked in a fast food restaurant downtown for the summer. He reports that there is a line of customers there from opening until closing every day. He works all shifts so he has some knowledge of this.

I'm impressed you did this in the rain! I love taking long walks around the city, I start in the Pearl and head towards Downtown. I'll have to try the this trail the next time I'm in town. Portland is a hidden gem that has the same issues as any other big city but you highlighted all the things that make it great.

When you’re driving down a block it would be nice to see a caption showing the street you’re on. I know you showed a map but it’d still be nice to know where you are (I haven’t lived here long enough to recognize landmarks)
