SPOT Breakdown: inshore kayak fishing South Carolina Lowcountry
I planned this South Carolina Lowcountry inshore fishing trip with falling / low tide spots in mind. The heat was brutal but it didn't deter my efforts or the willingness of the fish to eat!
As the tide was faling, I targeted several high probability spots, explaining why and how I was fishing the area. I also lightly covered my use of the cork rig after cast netting some shrimp and using it successfuly to catch a redfish!
Thanks so much for watching!

    Hey man, try pulling the fish towards the dock when fishing around them. The fish will naturally try to pull against your rod and in turn it will run away from the dock. I’ve had pretty good success with that and not losing fish. Sounds a little counter intuitive but maybe it’ll help you not break fish off around docks.

  • @waheedwitherspoon8238

    I’m new to saltwater fishing, I need some opinions. Which do you prefer incoming or outgoing tide?

    • @CurrentAngling
      @CurrentAngling Před 4 dny

      All tides have their advantages and I just fish when I have the time. If I were to pick I would fish a falling tide. During a falling tide the bait and water is coming out of creeks and the grass so predatory fish are lying in ambush. It allows you to cast up shallow or into creek mouths and pull the lure with the current across the fish lying in wait.

    Is it best to always fish the incoming tide. I just bought a kayak and want to hit the water this weekend with incoming tide at 730 a.m. I'll have live bait and shrimp/zman lures targeting same areas as you but near Sullivans Island need to find a good launch point for a kayak would you know any?

    • @CurrentAngling
      @CurrentAngling Před 5 dny

      There really is no best tide, they all have advantages. I probably prefer a falling tide the most though. Bait is falling out of the grass, creeks, and flats, so predatory fish are waiting in ambush. This allows you to cast up and bring the bait across them in a natural way. There are a few access points on Sullivans. Station 26, station 19 on the back side of the island. Then nearby you have Pitt St on the intercostal (not an easy place to launch) also Gadsdenville/ copahee sound (avoid low tide). You can see station 26 and copahee in this video I made. czcams.com/video/uNyJAyCLdps/video.htmlfeature=shared Thanks for watching!

    ill be in charleston the next few days with my kayak .i plan on bringing 3 rods ,what rigs would you recomend for this time of year.also have you had any luck with a topwater bite early mornings?

    • @CurrentAngling
      @CurrentAngling Před 16 dny

      Hey Matthew, if I was coming with three rods I would have one with a cork rig like in this video, another with a paddle tail, and a third with a topwater or other hard bait. During my last trip I had good success with a Heddon super spook jr in the morning. I would work that around and depending on water clarity switch to a jerk bait or spinner bait on that rod as the sun gets high. On the swim bait rod: try either a 3” paddle tail or my personal favorite, the 3.3” mulletron on a ZWG hook. These summer waters tend to be dirty so the gold rush or Rootbeer chartreuse tail are great. Sometimes natural is the best thing. I like to carry a cast net and offer them back what’s abundant and they are eating. That’s where the cork rig or Carolina rig rod comes in. Hope this helps!

    • @CurrentAngling
      @CurrentAngling Před měsícem

      Thats though! I love that I can “hunt” for inshore redfish by sight fishing and they fight hard! However, catching a big bull red doesn’t take much skill, you just sink bait at inlets or nearshore. Consistently catching big speckled sea trout is a different story. Big trout are difficult to come by and such a vicious predator. I my favorite would prob be targeting big trout on topwater! Flounder is my favorite inshore fish to eat. Thanks for watching!

    Great video. I just found your channel and I like how you explain what you are doing and why. I fish the Beaufort/Hilton Head area a good bit and I've caught more trout on electric chicken paddle tails than any other bait. I like seeing you release the fish you catch. I tell my friends who ask why I don't keep the fish I catch "I'm not mad at them, I just want to catch them". I fish out of a classic Montauk 17 Boston Whaler but your videos make me curious about kayak fishing.

    • @CurrentAngling
      @CurrentAngling Před měsícem

      That’s awesome! I enjoy kayak fishing but enjoy the water in whatever way gets you out there. I just find a kayak to be convenient, quiet, and maneuverable. Electric chicken is awesome, especially in low visibility water. I’m looking to post a new video tomorrow so look out for it. Also, I throw most back and practice safe handling but I’ll keep a couple here and there for dinner!
