How to measure a parasite egg in µm (micrometers)

A short video describing the use of a graticule (ruler) inside your microscope eyepiece. The method can be used to measure parasitic eggs, cysts and oocysts to determine the size of your microscopic organism to aid in correct species identification.

The lab we had could barely tell if coccidia let alone which coccidia. In Desperation. Mefloquine is antiprozoan and improved stools but doesn't do anything for the vomiting. Prednisolone worked for a month he's still on it as you need to taper it off. I tried a quarter dose less but he was showing signs of adrenal insufficiency which are exactly the same as the isospora. The high dose stopped the vomiting but you can't do high dose for more than two weeks. Prednisolone works for most parasites too as it obviously decreases inflammation but eventually will stop working. I think most doctors are now convinced autoimmune diseases aren't really autoimmune after all... Prednisolone can cause hepatitis from withdrawal too even if you taper it off by just one mg as I did. And he gets pancreatitis. He used to have pancreatitis prior to the prednisolone. Meaning that the prednisolone is maybe wrong. These b word coccidia are truly evil. 😢

Yes "coccidia" is a general term that includes Eimeria spp, Cystoispora, Toxoplasma etc

Thank you nice vedio but i have two question - can i use this method for egg nematode in soil sample? Please write me in details why you multiply by 50, i try to calculate for 1 gram sample result was = 7×45/0.15 then divide by 3 to get for 1 gram
What nematodes are you trying to identify in soil? Parasitic or environmental?

What does MOOC mean?
@@UCDVeterinaryParasitology A MOOC is a modern way to broadcast knowledge. A lot of universities and scientists use it now. Basically, it's a way to have a (sometimes big) student class, but through the internet. Some MOOCs are free, they are often used to attract new students, or as a mean to educate a wide public about public health problems. Some MOOCs are free to use, but you have to pay to get a certificate (some kind of basic degree). You should visit Coursera or EdX, there are tons of very interesting courses. Knowledge is at our doors.
@@UCDVeterinaryParasitology It's better than CZcams, because you can put all your youtube videos in a MOOC! And ask questions to your students or ask for a personal work after watching the video. It's often more fun than a real course in university, as there's a gamification.
