Welcome to 3minutemaths! This channel is all about GCSE maths revision, and focusses on the topics needed to pass GCSE maths, with all the main boards: Edexcel, OCR, AQA and Eduqas. I have worked as a maths tutor for over 20 years, both privately and within schools, tutoring a wide range of students on all areas of the curriculum - from foundation to higher level topics.
The videos support my own worksheets, and are posted every Tuesday. They are all based on similar exam questions, and definitely proofread by my students! Please do let me know if there are any particular topics, either through the comments on the channel, or directly by visiting 3minutemaths.co.uk.
Any thoughts, comments or ideas are very much appreciated. Please do subscribe, and I'll look forward to seeing you soon :-)

[ With Logarithms, first always calculate the valid domains ] In any log_a(b), we should have b > 0, and a > 0 and a != 1. Here, a is already 3. Thus, we just need to ensure that x + 1 > 0 and x - 1 > 0, which implies that x > 1. 3x^2 - 7x + 2 = 0, has two solutions x = 1/3, x = 2. Since x > 1, we only accept x = 2. In this case, if you approach the problem systematically, there is no need to check the solutions. Just satisfy as per the domain, because the operations involved don't produce any loss of information. In some other types of questions, where you would need to square somewhere, the sign information gets lost, and then in the end, you will need to keep back the solutions in the original equation and verify.
@@sukritshankar03 Thank you :-)
!
You missed something. You have to plug the values back into the original equation and when you do that, 1/3 - 1 = -2/3 < 0. log of that is not defined so 1/3 is not a solution. 2 is the only one available.
Yes - very good point - thank you. :-)
Hello sir! how to make your own mathematical formula?
Thanks🎉

to say that was helpful would be a total understatement! now, after watching many videos, your video makes it real...I understand the purpose of this completely, only sampling 11 girl students is manageable! but honestly, how do we choose those 11 girls, is it a simple random, or do we just choose 11 girls, or what? thank you very much! so glad i found you!!
Hi - very glad the video helped and thank you for your comment! These questions are a little contrived, specifically for exams. Sampling techniques to minimise bias is a whole other topic :-)
Wait, this is the required level for LBoro? "We normally expect applicants to have a minimum of grade 4/C in GCSE English Language and, for most courses, GCSE grade 4/C in Mathematics. " :v
Hi - yes, grade 4 is considered a pass ... these questions are just taken at that level, although an exam paper will range upto grade 5 (foundation level) to grade 9 (higher level). All best S :-)
@@3minutemaths in appaled how low is the bar

No worries and would work just as well. All best S :-)

Had a quick go, got eveything but the minus 1, reread the question 'shaded area'! Not just big hexagon. Suppose thats the nice part of a show that, you can spot your error quickly

too easy, scaling by a factor p means the new length will be p times original length and the area of a regular hexagon is just 6 times the area of an equilateral triangle with the same side length. Do some addition, subtraction of the two areas and you get the result.
Yes - there’s a couple of approaches you could use. Best S :-)

This really helped (aside from the lack of self esteem at having done the wrong equation for 3+ hours). However I have one question. What happens with the 20 at the end? Is that just -2.0 for the y-intercept?
Hi - glad the video helped. The -20 at the end is the yintercept, so the full equation of the line is y = 6x - 20. All best S
