Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions. I looked up the Age of Opportunity book you mentioned. It looks like the book has been revised. Do you recommend one over the other?

This will be our second year using Math With Confidence. We love it, and when I say "we", I mean my 3 children and myself. Last year I used it with my 3rd grader, 2nd grader and Kindergartner. My rising 1st grader has already started the 1st grade math. All 4 levels I have used have been excellent. It gives a deep conceptual understanding of Math, in my humble opinion. I have a friend that uses Singapore and is switching to Math With Confidence this coming school year. There is a woman who has made a comparison video of the 2, because her oldest uses Singapore (they are too old to use Math With Confidence since it is currently only up through grade 4) and her younger ones use Math With Confidence. I believe her CZcams channel name is Blue and Hazel (I hope it's ok for me to mention someone else's channel in the comments). I found that video very helpful when I was trying to decide between the 2 companies.

Do you feel like your kids frequently re-visit their notebook journals (e.g. @5:13) or are they more like rarely or one and done?

I wonder how this approaches other faiths. I'm having a hard time finding history, both religious and secular, that don't have a certain bias. It's a huge turn-off. I fully expect to have to dig on my own for objective history but it's incredibly disappointing to do months and months of research on curricula, then purchase it, only to find the ones you chose aren't nearly as good as you thought they were. Continuing that bias, I'm noticing only specific atrocities are mentioned and those atrocities are painted in one light or another. For example, people eating people in one culture is covered and looked down on (likely because it's so widely known they did this that it pretty much can't go unmentioned) but not another (likely because it's not nearly as widely known, despite the fact that it's fairly recent history!). In the latter, it's painted as W people being meanies to the other group. No mention of *WHY.* Groups being pushed out in some sort of way is also painted as simply W/Europeans/Christians are big ol' meanies instead of the *actual* reasons they wanted to push other groups out. One goes so far as to actually say, and I quote, "for no reason." Bologna sausage. You might not like the reason but there IS a reason. Often multiple. I am in no way supporting bad things in history. Not at all. I just want objective, true, FACTS. No opinions. No purposefully manipulative adjectives and adverbs. (Such as sadly, fortunately, horrific, etc) Or, at the very least, more than one side of the story. Not only that, but it irks me how shallow history curricula tend to go. I can understand why, especially in grade school levels, but come on...three very vague paragraphs on the War of 1812? Really? SIGH. Yes, we can dive deeper on our own. Yes, we DO dive deeper on our own. But that's not the point. Sigh. I'm thinking of just completely revamping history in our homeschool, skipping curricula, and just putting my own together myself because this is ridiculous. However, Generations does intrigue me. Thank you for going through this. I'll have to rewatch on a bigger screen so I can read the text better.

Your charter seems very similar to ours. We are allowed to keep books up to $20 which is nice. The only problem is I have all these books piling up and no more shelves to put then on. 😬😃

Second year using a Charter in CA. I was so surprised to have such freedom. Our school library is close so I do use a lot of their books/manuals and saves my funds for enrichment and lots of consumables. My daughters are entering 1st and TK and man they go thru markers 😂

I can relate to you on so many levels! I have an upcoming 9th and 6th grader this coming school year as well as a 3 year old, and a 19 year old who has moved out. Finding time mentally and physically for it all is just a lot! Thank you for sharing!!😊❤

We also homeschool through a charter in CA. It’s all we’ve ever known after pulling our kids out of in person public but I’d say it’s been a great experience for my kiddos and myself over the last 4 years. Our HST is very close to us after all this time and more like our friend. 🩷 The non consumables were definitely overwhelming at first but we have very strict rules on those items in our home. 😅 We have bookshelves specifically designated to school owned books/materials and now after 4 years, I even place a label with our school name inside all of the books and things that don’t belong to us just in case I forget down the line. Fortunately for us though, when we’re finished with our items we can return them to our Lending Library van that comes to our school designated park days once a month. If I had to return with shipping, I definitely wouldn’t bother with the hassle like you. 😂 Thanks for sharing your experience working with a charter. I think it seems intimidating to other people but it can be a great experience too. 🩵

I did the living generously last year. I found them at convention and the young man that created is so inspiring for his age. It was such a great curriculum. Def worth the cost.
