    Theanine can treat depression and allow the brain to release as much dopamine as possible, but if you consume too much theanine, it will have a psychedelic effect, which is very useful for treating patients with depression or neurological diseases. For weakened patients, it will bring serious harm by continuing to rely on theanine, which not only aggravates the state of depression, but also leads to addictive side effects.

    What is Rem Behavior Disorder? I have had traumatic events in the past; but the night terrors do not portray them. I have them in the early part of the night and leap out of bed thrashing and screaming. I can have numerous episodes in one night.

    Gained a hundred pounds within six years using CPAP. Tried every mask possible from nasal to hybrids and full face. Slim profile under nose and covering mouth works best for me as nasal pathways close from nasal pillows. Hard to stay asleep with a mask farting on your face and blow dryer up your nose and mouth.

    Hello Nishi Mam I need to have a talk about sleep apnea I was diagnosed with mild osa I wasn’t treated with cpap effectively but now’s there are whole host of symptoms complicating things now it’s severe rem osa but iam unable to use cpap and I’m not obese or fat and I’m only 25 it started 4 yrs ago

      Great questions! Doxepin is typically recommended for no more than 4-8 weeks, Lunesta has been studied for up to 6 months duration of use. The best treatment for chronic insomnia remains CBT-i (cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia), it's more effective than meds long-term and does not have side effects.

    I’ve been on it for 4 mths my doctor is clueless about it. I want to come off and some nights I don’t even use it. Should I taper? I feel fine for three days of not using it then on the 4th night I panic I might get withdrawals so I take it again! It’s really annoying having doctors who are clueless

    I have had tremendous success with a mouthpiece custom made by my dentist. Unfortunately, after many years of nightly use, it is now damaged. My insurance must have a referral from my PCP. His office doesn't seem to know what this is. Ugh.

    Thank you for the information! What a great lecture. My big issue with my patients is convincing them to just change their sleep hygiene habits which is mostly putting down the phone at night or to stop watching television. I would love to see more sleep related videos addressing changes in sleep architecture during major depressive episodes with and without treatment

    You think allowing a hormone that our brain secretes is a good candidate for consuming orally? Especially considering the relative paucity, AFAIK, of long-term, "proper" studies of Melatonin consumption?

      Thanks for your comment! This brings up a great point, as I find there are 2 camps -- that melatonin supplements should never be used because it's a hormone, or that it's safe to use because it's over the counter. It's a nuanced conversation, as there are indications and clinical guidelines for the strategic-use of oral melatonin as a therapeutic for specific conditions. However, it is not recommended for long-term use for most patients (with some exceptions), nor is it recommended for chronic insomnia, which is the reason that most people take it. Often people do forget that it is a hormone with downstream effects, and that because something is "natural" doesn't make it safe. Also, the quality of the supplement matters, as recent studies have highlighted the concerns around OTC melatonin quality. As healthcare practitioners, we need to understand the nuances of melatonin use, including indications, clinical guidelines, quality, etc., given that it's the 4th most common supplement taken by adults in the US, and the 2nd most common taken by children.       @@JahNawl Sorry to hear about the struggles with sleep apnea! It's suggested that benfotiamine and NAC can help with the inflammation from sleep apnea, and possibly with sleep apnea symptoms themselves, but there's not enough data available to support this. However, there are other options to consider. A couple of resources are Dr. Audrey Wells MD at SuperSleepMD, she's a sleep apnea specialist (see our youtube video here czcams.com/video/Q9SsYY6BtyM/video.htmlsi=mmAw6dCkWwM4k5DO) or Empower Sleep, they see patients by telehealth and offer longitudinal testing to see how different treatments impact sleep apnea over time.

    I diagnosed for myself insomnia, but doctor decided that I have severe sleep apnea and gave me cpap machine. Now I feel so much better don't do any diagnosis anymore. Be careful, stay safe!

    I couldn't handle the CPAP. The oral devices didn't work either. Nasal opening devices wouldn't work either. I was warned that surgery could have some very bad side effects, like having problems swallowing. I've given up on ever curing my sleep apnia.
