The Russian fleet also threatened to Shell Australian ports along with other British Pacific Colonies if Britain aided the Confederates. A confederate war ship spent a lot of time in Australian waters and was supported by the Australian public, some even signing on as crew members. This Confederate war ship laid waist to the US Pacific whaling fleet and is reported to have fired the last shot in the war. The name of the ship was called the CSS Shenandoah. Russia also helped Thailand (Kingdom of Siam) maintain its sovereignty from being completely Partitioned/Annexed from the British and French around the same time. The very word Thai (ไทย) means 'free man' in the Thai language which is partially to thank to the Russians as they might have ended up being a colony or part of another country/colony if not for their intervention.

Sorry, but that is bullshit. While Napoleon III was interested in intervening to help the Confederacy, he would not act without British support and approval, and while the British government had some interest in cutting down a potential geopolitical rival and a threat to British-held North America (later Canada), British public opinion was FIRMLY abolitionist and on the side of the North. Barring a US first move (such as bungling the Trent affair), there is no way the British are attacking the US. The Russian navy (or rather 12 steam frigates and corvettes, or about 23,5% of the Russian navy) made it to US ports in 1863, officially as a "naval visit", but in reality to protect the navy from being destroyed - there was another Polish uprising, and potential British and French support for that uprising to create a Polish state to contain Russia (the British wanted it to contain Russian ambition in Central Asia and against the Ottomans, the French as a potential ally against Prussia) and Russia sent parts of its navy out to make sure it was not destroyed or bottled up and could act as commerce raiders in case of war with the British and the French. At this time, the French navy had about 400 steam vessels of war, and the British about 1 000. Both also had ironclads that could take on the Russian, US and CS navies together on their own. It was the Russians that were worrying, not the French or British. Even Napoleon III:s most ambitious plans did not include any annexation of territory - just breaking the US blockade of the CS, providing arms and supplies and instructors to the CS and blockading the US from nitrates (so they could not make gunpowder), forcing the US to recognise the CS and thus creating a client state dependent on France (and Britain), delivering cheap agriculturalal produce (cotton, tobacco, maize and wheat) and barring the US from enforcing the Monroe doctrine, giving France and Britain free hands to intervene in Mexico and South America.

@@GefreitervonAdler For a little more context: The British (City of London) are the ones who created our divide in the first place to put brother against brother. After the war Lincoln wanted to rebuild the South and had plans to do so. He and half his Cabinet were assassinated by London. Many of the others that survived had multiple assassination attempts on them especially William Seward who had like a dozen or so, many almost killing him. Most of the Operations for the Civil War and post war plans and assassinations were made in London and then sent to Montreal a hub for spies and intel in the Americas for the British Empire then passed through to Confederate President Jefferson Davis to follow the orders. Many of the South's own leaders were selling out the South to British interest even General Lee. Unfortunately London had many of their Tentacles and Webs on both sides. Lincoln stated that the Department Of State is completely controlled by British Interest that he had to constantly fight against. It was in the 1870s that a Paradigm Shift happened were the British took control within the Reunited States through subversion (which was easy to do so as all their agents were brought back into the Union and a large part of their opposition killed) and have had it all the way up to this day. Some presidents fought against it like Garfield, McKinley, Harding, Roosevelt, and Kennedy and all were killed. If you read the very writings themselves from the people directly involved you get a Much different picture of history than if you listen to it from 3rd parties. Just like with what really happened in WW2 and what happened with FDR. One place to start is his son Elliot Roosevelts writings. FDR brought him along to his meetings especially the ones with Churchill and Stalin. He made sure Stalin and his son were well acquainted. Both FDR and Stalin did not trust Churchill at all. FDR has said on multiple occasion that Churchill/Londons goal is to both maintain the Empire and strengthen it. FDRs stated goal was to stop the Empires of Europe and make sure the colonies have their sovereignty. When FDR died Elliot Roosevelt met with Stalin and Stalin was quoted saying "it was Churchill and his gang who killed your father". Probably the best book to read on the subject is "The Clash of the Two Americas. The Unfinished Symphony" by Matthew Ehret. I have no affiliation with them but they also have an audiobook which can make it easier since not many people like to sit down and read anymore. It has multiple references on the bottom of each page of the book.

@@GefreitervonAdlerI think you will enjoy this quote from the Russian Foreign Minister Alexander Gorchakov writing to Lincoln in the Autumn of 1862 a year and a half into the war- "You know that the government of United States has few friends among the Powers. England rejoices over what is happening to you; she longs and prays for your overthrow. France is less actively hostile; her interests would be less affected by the result; but she is not unwilling to see it. She is not your friend. Your situation is getting worse and worse. The chances of preserving the Union are growing more desperate. Can nothing be done to stop this dreadful war? The hope of reunion is growing less and less, and I wish to impress upon your government that the separation, which I fear must come, will be considered by Russia as one of the greatest misfortunes. Russia alone, has stood by you from the first, and will continue to stand by you. We are very, very anxious that some means should be adopted-that any course should be pursued-which will prevent the division which now seems inevitable. One separation will be followed by another; you will break into fragments." Here is another quote but from Tsar Alexander II in an Interview after the war: "In the Autumn of 1862, the governments of France and Great Britain proposed to Russia, in a formal but not in an official way, the joint recognition by European powers of the independence of the Confederate States of America. My immediate answer was: "I will not cooperate in such action; and I will not acquiesce. On the contrary, I shall accept the recognition of the independence of the Confederate States by France and Great Britain as a casus belli for Russia. And in order that the governments of France and Great Britain may understand that this is no idle threat; I will send a Pacific fleet to San Francisco and an Atlantic fleet to New York."
